  2. My favourite reel from a purely nostalgic reason is my ABU Ambassadeur IGFA 20 bought second hand in the early 1970's for £80. I think new they were going for around £150+ then. Just did a quick google and found they had appreciated somewhat especially in Sweden ABU IGFA20 The reel is lever drag and built like a tank . I used to use it with steel wire when first going on charters in the 80's with an all roller ugly stick which I also still have. Was a crane rig...It would crank anything up but weighed a ton ....pre braid days of course Both still work perfectly but much too beefy for my present day escapades. Might dig them out to go after the Poole bay monster one of these days or if blue fin turn up in the bay(for purely scientific research reasons of course) 😋

  6. May be good for me, the boat came out to day and some hard work may see it back afloat and available on the new dates

  10. You can really go wrong with any smaller sized shimano for lure fishing. 2500/3000 size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. Thanks guys Venison stew, The Guv'nor wine from majestic and chocolate cake washed down with Hobgoblin gold, so beer and cake sorted. Death Trap II you are spot on about buying boats, they're flying off the shelf at inflated prices, hence I was looking at Spain. I missed a nice Arvor AS in Weymouth by 2 hours about 3 weeks ago, gutted. I've got an itch to scratch and it's going to happen

    3D knot app

There are 2 different knots both called FG. I use the single mono version ending in 7 or 8 half hitches like Charlie. It's really strong and thin. I'm pretty quick tying it now but if I was wrecking for instance and need to re- rig fast I'd use a double grinner/uni. One thing about braid to leader knots they are subject to wear on the braid and it's not always obvious, particularly when using lures. It pays to cut them off and strip back a metre or two of braid and re-tie fairly regularly. It can seem like a waste of time until that is the braid gives way under surprisingly little pressure. This particularly seems to affect whiplash, probably because it is so thin to start with.
