  3. Mal kindly offered himself to help me with three juniors on Sunday. We fish headed to Swanage bay and a few tries for some mackerel, nothing caught. Anchored for a ray hopefully, a LSD for Blake at 1lb 4ozs and a small smooth hound for Harvey at 1lb 12ozs. Tide backed off so we moved out for more tide, nothing really showing with only a few bites and an increasing wind so we moved to the patch to get interests up. Fish from the off which kept Mal and myself very busy, unhooking, cutting up bait, untangling etc and Mal with new rig making. The guys caught endless quantities of small bream, pout, LSD's and various species of wrasse. The very best going to Harvey with a cracking Cuckoo Wrasse of 1lb 2ozs. Early afternoon saw the wind increase so a slow return to base to fuel up and a boat clean up, well needed. Time just allowed a well deserved pint of Guinness for Mal and myself after a pretty exhausting day. (Our pasties are still on the engine warming) Blake was asleep by 6pm and didn't wake up until this morning. Cheers Mal, great effort very much appreciated. 👍 Note to self, one novice junior per one adult if you a breather throughout the day, we didn't stop.

  11. The weather forecast yesterday proved pretty accurate, so a bit lumpy to take two first timers out. Dennis 10 and Harrison 11 came down with there grandfathers for a day out. A leisurely 10.30 bridge and a few “are we nearly there yet?” we first went round towards Lakeyard. Neither had caught fish under there own previously, but after a bit of instruction both were happily getting double shot Chequers and single Black Bream. ( I had tied two hook rigs with semi circles and they had over 25 Bass and every one except one was lip hooked👍) After half a dozen schoolies we changed tactics to try and avoid them, no chance! Wonderful to know the nursery area is still strong with the number of predators they face. Both juniors had Black Bream, then Dennis hooked into a better fish, RESULT a thick lipped Mullet, first I’ve ever seen caught when not being targeted. This was followed by another new species in the boat for 2023 caught by Harrison, a Gilthead Bream. Its strange how youngsters are so spooky about handling worms, even after digging them, however both were happily handling them by the end of the day. Slack water at lunchtime and a quick sandwich we tried some drifts for some Plaice but just more Bass! 2.30 Bridge and another mark in Holes Bay only produced one Ballan Wrasse and MORE Bass. We had a wonderful day and they are really keen for another trip, two Grumpy grandfathers put the world of agriculture right so success all round.
