  1. Paul I struggle with my 16.5 ft boat and trailer at Baiter with a cross wind and/or tide....especially with the waves crashing into my back and knocking me / trailer off the slip..just the thought of bad conditions for recovery put me off and spoil the boat/fishing experience... ....so I am very interested to hear about a a "rear swinging cradle".... My trailer has a "V" set of rubber rollers at the axle location and a couple of guide posts at the rear (are these posts the rear swinging cradle you talk of ?? ) The "V" set of rubber rollers are quite free running because I renewed them last year. I resisted the nylon type of rollers because of ignorance and inexperience but have since thought of replacing again or adding a second set of nylon rollers at the guide post position...?? I have recovered with relative ease from less than 18" of water at Baiter in the right conditions.....Have to be a bit careful as the boat/ trailer tends to tip backwards as you winch on....but how often do you get those conditions??? I guess the options are either Wick or Cobbs.........Will be happy for any advice/info/guidance.......Cheers all. Little Sal......please be careful and take extra help for recovery in poor conditions at Baiter......and good luck with the trailer !! Dave
  2. Tom I am no plumber or heating eng......but from experience......my humble offering here is....... Sounds to me like you should invest in a woodburner, or multi-fuel burner. I have had a woodburner for many years and they are so efficient that they burn and double burn almost anything...with the doors shut !!They can also be rigged to work in tandem with any other heating system for heating the water and or by using TRVs. I pop up to the local industrial site or building site to ask for surplus pallets when tree wood is short supply. I am in a 3 bed bungalow and have mine for main room heating only. I have it "continental style".....with the single skin flue exposed up through the room until about 8" below ceiling where it starts being double skin insulated to go on through the roof space. The exposed flue releases so much heat into the room as well as the main body of the burner. Strategically placed in an old farmhouse I think the burner would be a great asset. Regarding economy of radiator use etc it will depend on how heat efficient the old house is....ie double glazed, cavity wall and roof space. Heating the "fabric" of the house is the expensive bit....topping up in a well insulated place is less expensive. I remember in the old days when I found it draughty in the winter I used cling film on the inside frame of windows to act as draught excluder and "double glazing".....surprisingly effective... Good luck.....keep the kids warm Dave
  3. Well done Paul and James If that's what being a member of this club means then it warms the cockles of me 'art....proud to be amongst you all. And just to mention....Ben and I picked up an unmarked net on Saturday. Luckily we were on a slow drift and it was with our fishing lines......because it was in about 16 ft of water and was so calm and slow we were able to haul in up enough to free the weights and hooks by hand. No markers to be seen in close proximity and certainly none in any sort of line where the net was.......madness or what?? Thank goodness it wasn't on one of our moves uptide to drift and/ or around our prop. Dave
  4. Mark I have the Navionics GOLD 28XG UK and N Ire.....covers IRELAND & HOLLAND From United Kingdom to Holland. United Kingdom, Ireland, English Channel, Belgium and The Netherlands. I have a portable RAYCHART 400......largest handheld I could get 'cause I have no security on my small boat. I dont know where you live but you are welcome to have a look and judge for yourself if it is what you want ( I am in Ringwood).......I have no real experience in these things to advise. Alternatively get a demo from Marine Electronics in Poole.....OR one of the lads in the club on their mooring....I am sure there will be loads only too happy to assist. PM me if you want to have a look at the one I purchased ( gotta be so careful how you say things on this forum with Jim and Martin about) ha ha !! Good luck Dave
  5. Ben and I managed a few Bream and two Tub Gurnards......We didn't get out 'til after noon and had a very slow afternoon.....Ben was bored by 3 and I only managed to interest him with a quick switch to the Loe and then the Swash....all to no avail !! Disappointing.....but what a cracking day.......fish would have been a bonus... Hope others did better...but from the radio calls I am not so sure !! Thanks to Brian, Dave and Charlie for keeping an ear open !! Dave
  6. Hi Charlie/Paul/Adam and all........ I just found this on another PINNED post......does this booking in system still apply ?? " To fish the comps all you have to do is register the night before with either myself ( Paul Dore - 07887 875964 ) or with Mike Fox 07768 232483 - also I will put a thread on the forum and will accept registration this way as well. You can also register on the day by calling myself or Mike up on Channel 6 ( Neo or Frisky Fox ). If you are unable to contact either myself of Mike then call any other committee member or call them up on Channel 6 in the morning and they will pass on the message. If a boat is not registered for each comp then their catches will not count. Weighing of fish is done on trust ( apart from the Nov Open Comp ). " Hope I am not stirring up a storm here but needs bringing together !! I have just "registered " using a post on the other thread.......... but have I ?????? Dave
  7. Adam Ben and I intend to fish the comp so book us in on "Now or Never" please. Dave
  8. Hi lads Glad I wasn't the only one struggling !! Thanks for the info ...... Like Brian .......I will be struggling to make Sunday so lets hope the weather window shifts a bit. Dave
  9. Hi Paul or Martin... Have read the basic registration for comps info in early "pinned" topic by Paul D but have to ask....... 1) when does the comp start and end....or is it a midnight to midnight day long affair? 2) Is there a time limit on registering the catch on the fish recorder? 3) do we need to photo confirm catches? 4) does the two on a boat rule apply ? 5) is there an area restriction or is it clubs waters and if so what constitutes Club Waters? Soz if all these are answered if I had read the right post or something !! Dave
  10. Welcome Rory....... So much to learn...You have made a good decision to join PBSBAC......the club members are top draw and some are very experienced / knowledgeable....There is also a good number like us that are learning about boat management, safety and angling from our own boats......and loads in between. In my experience so far....All are happy to help you learn !! Do you have the boat on a trailer...intending to use slipways or are you thinking of moorings ? Is your angling knowledge local or otherwise ? Hope you enjoy the experience !!! Dave

    Evening all

Welcome James....enjoy club membership. see you Thursday Dave
  18. I have kept out of this one because I am a new member myself and feel this is for the longer serving members to discuss, debate and decide.....BUT.....I must say since the first time I saw kayaks over in Christchurch harbour about 3 years ago I have been aware of the exciting potential of fishing from them and exploiting the smallest bay /feature/ inlet /cave / bump in the harbour....and from almost any launch site. Safety is an issue ....but lets not get too prescriptive....every skipper has the same responsibility... a 10ft two man rower with a 2hp outboard has the some potential for disaster. There is an issue of distance between yaks.....and there MAY be an issue with yaks in numbers completely smothering a mark so that no larger craft can fish it effectively?? But nothing that cannot be overcome I am sure.....and I for one feel that the yakers forum posts/reports have been interesting, informative and exciting. THE GUYS SOUND AND SEEM LIKE THEY ARE RIGHT UP THERE FOR THE CLUB TOO....REGARDLESS OF THE DEBATE OUTCOME....Exciting times. I will state that my enthusiasm is, and will remain as a spectator.....unless they are able to be fitted with outriggers on both sides for stability. Hope I haven't been too outspoken FOR A NEWBIE Dave
  19. Membership card ???...I was told none left as I asked the Q way back in July. I guess the most important bit is making sure you have the Status on the forum is upgraded to club member so that you get all the club info/reports etc Welcome aboard jay kay (Jon) May see you Thursday.....8pm Dave

  25. So Paddy asks Murphy, "Why do Scuba divers always fall backwards off their boats?" To which Murphy replies, "You Thick idiot. If they fell forwards they'd still be in the friggin' boat".
