    Crew

Hi all Just to let everyone know that I am available to crew most days within what I call the school run window....that is to say during school terms time, generally 0900....1500 (ie Back at Ringwood by 3.30). These times are not cast in stone.....I can sometimes arrange a pick-up and be a bit later back etc. (and Ben is old enough now to deal with the "odd" schedule upset if I am a bit late due to unforseen) Weekends too but I will need to make arrangements, or/and include Ben (13 yr old). As you will probably know I have my own "little" ship !! but with the weather as it has been, I have found it difficult to venture off the swinger on the small hull. Never seemed to get weather/tide/time/boat buddie in sync. More than happy to pay my way....just want to get fishing and get more boat experience. PM / e-mail or phone me on 07815975715 Dave
  2. Does any body want a crew during the week ?? I am free from Wed noon through to Friday eve if any one needs a crew. Pm me or call me on 07815975715 Dave
  3. Just caught up with the news.....not had the time to say a formal "hello" yet....but wish to add my congratulations and best wishes. Dave
  4. Freddie Thanks .....would be good if you could e-mail it...not sure about posting my e-addy on the forum.. Dave
  5. Thanks to all .......I did the repair the following day on a pontoon. Jimmy at Parkstone Bay Marina towed Now or Never in for me and I was able to do it in the calm of the marina. I apologise for not responding sooner but my pc notifier seems to have switched off ???? I would be grateful if any one can tell me if it is possible to start the engine without taking the top cover off the fly wheel. Mine needed sockets to reach the bolts to remove this...will have to get some for the boat tool box Thanks again Dave
  6. Hi I was very lucky yesterday......went out to studland to blow the cobwebs off the engine ( not seen use for a few weeks )....was anchored for about an hour and decided to go off into bay for a wander.....engine started 2nd pull.......lucky for me because the pull cord came out in my hand too.......so we headed for home and....happy to say made it without incident (we did not have our aux with us).. A quick chat with a repair specialist and decided that the cost of repair (iro

    Braid

Thanks Tomo, Colin.... looks like I will need about 600m of sea braid so will go for the nearest / higher denomination at 1000m. 30lb.......may do the Tomo thing with colour......sounds sensible to me, using a 10-20 ft leader of clear mono, any colour main line would appear ok.....?? I will need some 10-12 lb for my river feeder too .......and some mono changes required on other reels too. OOppss.....the cost is going up !! Thanks again Dave
  8. Hi all I am free to crew next week Tuesday 4th to Sunday 9th and would love the opportunity to get some pointers and fish. New to boat owning and v rusty about crewing and sea fishing I may need some pointers. Here's hoping. Dave

    Braid

I am trying to sort out the braid for the reels and there is so much variety out there I am looking for pointers if anybody can help. First reel (Misc s.stee) l spool is for the general bay fishing and I thought 15-20 lb, .....Type ??? 2nd reel (Shimano LD) is for the odd occasion I go out a bit further and wreck.....this I thought maybe 30-40lb ....Type?? Would I be better (bearing in mind the reduced Dia ) just to go 30lb for both?? Can I buy bulk ?? what length/size spool etc for each??, backing required ?? are some brand names better than others.. At the mo I have them both loaded but with "old" mono..would I be advised to keep the lower coils as backing ???..Need to change before serious fun starts. SO much to learn....so little time!! will be grateful for any and all advice Dave

    Lighter rods

Thanks Trev.....general trend is 6lb OR 3-4oz spinning..... just gotta check out the rods. Some help from other post too.. Thanks again Dave

    Lighter rods

I am looking for some opinion regarding the rods used in the bay for the smaller species like bream and pollack/pouting etc. I have some of the more powerful sticks 201b 30lb etc but they dont provide much fun.....I am thinking a 6-12lb rod or a 2-3oz spinning rod but would like to know what the experienced men have for these little beauts. or if I am better to stick with a 12lb "just in case the jaw dropper takes the bait" Dave

Thanks everybody.....that gives us plenty to think about Dave

    Slipways

Thanks Martin.....this one is pretty limited and only gives the more obvious ones.....there are loads more small ones around even onto the beach with small beach widths to launch over !! Is there a more comprehensive one around or am I dreaming? wishful thinker ? Dave

    Slipways

At the meeting on Thurs 04th there was mention of a list of Slipways (all over England if I remember correctly) both public and accessible private (Marinas etc I thought)..........it was said that this info is available on line.....can anyone furnish me with the web address please? I have googled but it only gives individual info I only want the local ones really....Poole, Bournemouth beach, Southbourne, Christchurch, and Mudeford down to Lymington but even small ones ( I have a mate with a 12 ft flat bottom dinghy and we intend to fish inshore so we can slip in almost any where really but proper slip acces is required for the car and trailer. Thanks IA Dave
  22. I don't know if it is just me but I have tried on several occasions to open an attachment from a post.......most recently the PDF about checks for your outboards ...all I get is the computer language gobble-de-gook. I have tried several ways to open this PDF all to no avail. This has also happened with Pics and other file types when I am using google chrome.....strange Any suggestions out there ????...Keep 'em clean please !! If not can you e-mail/pm it to me....Ta !! Dave
  23. Welcome to the uninitiated ranks Steve. I too have just begun the "boat owner" period of my life...All I can advise is ASK before TASK. I have been blessed so far with loads of encouragement, advice and helpful hints. I don't know why but maybe all those that have gone before realise "They were there once" and there is a common bond that says "one day this person may be the only one who is able to answer my distress call".......Whatever the reason.....feels good. but no matter how good the advice....it only counts if you heed it..... I have an old 5.3 m day boat with cuddy and have yet to fish out of the harbour in her....so much to learn and SAFETY is the most important. I was told....start with a good life jacket and build from there...on a boat you can't just park and walk to the garage so make sure your engine and backup are serviced and that you can contact the emergency service if the need arises. Boat buddies are a great idea....The list goes on....I get memory jam Good luck and stay safe Dave

Thanks Paul......Nice to meet you too. As I said I am in that phase of nerves, apprehension and lack of confidence about the boat owner bit and the new "adventure". Thanks for your re-assurance and advice.

Thanks to all for your welcome... The boat is "Now or Never" and she is a Microplus 501 (5.3m) motor/leisure/fisher blue upper / white hull (name on sides). Single skin fibreglass hull with a cuddy white spray shield and blue cover. Thanks Paul J......I went to boat jumble at Netley at the weekend and did the life jackets purchase, and a few other bits and pieces too. Next is the Flares and the a hand held VHF. Adam F / Joint Venture and TomBettle / Quest II I hope to make your aquaintance soon......I am out on a swinger straight out from the fuel pumps, but will be doing some work on her sometime next week. Thanks again !!
