  1. Hi all, only me, i have'nt been on for a while cos ive had a dinkin cold and ive got a docked dup doze, and my head feels somewhat strange Anyway im trying to rise above it and dink about fishing to cheer me up and of course chat to you splended chaps. A friend of mine tells me there is a good cod mark called the slates, is there any truth to this intell or is he talkin bunkum if so please share location.By the way i do not have a gps , yet ,soon, but not yet. Cheers ,Rob, im going to lay down for a minute
  2. I was not expecting such a great response thanks for all your interesting and very helpful advise, may your lines always be tight one's ,and i don't mean a flippin great lump off weed on the end cheers Rob.
  3. I have trawled the internet looking looking for tips, advise, and prices, of various units and configurations but the cod end is still a tad empty. I visited the boat show i spoke to Garmin,Navionics,Raymarine and a whole host of marine electronics suppliers. In the case of the latter they just want to sell you something, and are not really interested in people with little experience.I thought Garmin and Raymarine were "ouch" to expensive but by the time you throw in your chart card trany ect they are all a bit pricey. So im thinking this is a serious decision i don't want to get wrong Im not sure if i should go for seperate units c/plotter,fishfinder, or a display with the seperate modules or just go for a combi. I am thinking about overhead mounting to keep clear as much as possible my field of vision and i have noticed some cant be mounted overhead like some of the smaller garmins for example.Anythoughts guys are as usuall thankfully recieved,or even if anyone knows where i can get some good advise local suppliers etc . Tightlines you'all. Rob.
  4. Im gutted, parden any pun but ive lost my bait table over board during the sept 6th boat comp. My mate was supposed to fasten it to the hand rail as i always do, but he forgot.By the time we got to our mark i turned to look for it and had that deep sinking feeling in my stomach it was gone! I thought we've been steaming for half an hour forget any chance of seeing it again, bombshell or what. This was the start of my comp. Somehow i had to put it out off my mind and totaly focus on my fishing i could'nt let it ruin my day, or my mates day, it was an easy mistake to make and on a boat you don't fall out no matter what the reason. This was something i made myself and i was proud of it,forget what it cost to make it had sentimental value. Im sure all you boat owners know exactly what i mean,i made it and it was the perfect accessorie to my boat.Anyhow enough sentiment down to details,i was heading out between the harbour entrance and old harry when i hit another boats wash awkwardly it upset the boat to say the least and i think it could of gone over the side at this point. It did'nt even cross my mind to look there was no other incedent from that point. The tide was going in it was about nine'ish in the morning. Its made of white plastic about 500mm wide and 300mm deep it has sides and a lid to keep the sun off the bait, also it has two legs underneath and is assembled with A4 stainless fastners it looks like it was factory made everyone who saw it said so.oh and before anyone asks it floats If anyone can help return this to me by way of thanks i will make one bespoke for your boat, you won't regret it, you pay for materials approx
  5. A one of opportunity to accuire this top quality levelwind multiplyer from okuma. we are talking about the classic 300l it says "feel the power" on the box. well you can feel the power for ten quid, yes thats right, and i won't take a penny more! we are talking a brand spanking new boxed "grab yourself a bargain.Come on guys! this was 5th prize in the open comp. Sorry ive been promoted to 4th place, they told me 5th on the day of the competition.
  6. As a novice boat angler/skipper and having only joined a little while ago,can anybody advise me on the rules of the sept 6th open boat competition.I have never fished a fishing competition of any kind and i fancy having a go, even if in my case it's just a bit of fun. Or if anyone can advise where the rules are published, that will do me.In particular i would like to know if "an open comp" means even non members can enter the competition, as a friend of mine would like to take part.cheers, Rob.
  7. Thanks GUYS

    camera

Hi all i was just wondering if anyone can advise on a good camera for fishing.I have a sony cybre shot but its got a fault, and i was told buy the sony centre it's a minuim charge of 150.00 bucks for camera repairs.I dont think i paid a lot more when i bought it, so it looks like im going to have to buy another camera.I caught a lovely 2.5lb bream on sunday and wanted to take a picky, and i know the way my fishing been going im gonna need it a lot more ok so may be that's stretching the truth a tad but any advise would be appreciated. cheers Rob.
  9. Cool, thanks Brian .So the Wilson Flyer may actualy fly if you see a white blur in the bay that's me anyone out today tight lines. Cheers Rob.
  10. Can anyone advise whether or not you can use super unleaded in a yamaha 2 stroke engine cos i filled from the wrong pump they were both green do'h .lucky iv'e only filled one tank.
  11. You don,t want to drive in that state, you'll have the pigs after you !
  12. Thanks for the interesting tips. I too have a 5kg bruce anchor, with i think, it was 10 meters of 8 mm galv chain, 80meters of 14mm nylon, at least thats what it measures with the vernier, and my own rotten bottom set up which iv'e tested and works a treat. In fact the setup has been used in about 18 mtrs of water in a good tide and iv,e had my eye on other boats to see if ive been draging my anchor but she does'nt budge.Mind you i dont care what new fangled anchors come on the market these anchors are certainly one of the best small boat anchors around. If my warp doesn't wear well or i experience any other problems i may consider other cordage at the time,or in other words i'll learn the hard way, again oh and just to add i took the liberty of reinforcing the deck under my bollards but at the time i thought im just putting the stress somewhere else? anyhow at least if i need to pull my anchor out i can put a little more pressure on than perhaps i might have before. cheers Rob.
  13. whilst braid is nice to use personaly being a small boat owner i prefer to use nylon it has a greater dampening effect so that stress created every time you go over a wave isn't dumped into your deck hardware and then obviously your deck.I think if you rely on a longer lenght of chain as a dampener whilst im sure this will work fine, personaly i dont think you can beat the dampening effect of a nice long warp. Especially if youv'e got a small boat with light duty bollards fastned to thin fibre glass, you need that extra cushion. Also i would imagine that chain lifting up and down would make a noise and it may spook the fish?i expect not, but who knows?Thats my opinion for what its worth but i suppose it'll come down to personal preference, myself i would'nt want the cost of a great lengh of braid cheers,Rob.
  14. cool! thats good enough for me. Hope every one's had a good'n cheers ,Rob.

  17. Im getting 4900 rpm's with a 13x19 prop,BHG have told me i probably need a 13x17 pitch. In what way will this improve performance, or are they just trying to sell me a new propellor? over 100 quid! any opinions would be appreciated thanks, Rob.

  23. HI GUYS, im a bit new to all this boat fishing mularky, this is my first season on my own. That is to say since dad died from cancer 2 years ago ,and i realy miss not being able to ask him questions about stuff. Anyways this is the situation,17ft wilson flyer bought as an empty shell from dear old brian wilson ,fitted her out over the winter months it was great fun trying to put windows in ,in minus 2 degrees and swearing at my lovely sister who was only trying to help bless her cottons sorry sis ! anyway im thinking about a fishfinder/gps unit for the boat and would appreciate any advice on where to purchase, can you get demonstrations on these things? , what is the right sort of budget to get something which will stand me in good stead as my fishing/ skippering skills develope .Before anybody says it i am planing to do my day skipper and vhf since i dont have a radio on my boat! and to be honest im not comfortable with that ,dad would have said "where's your bloody radio then nipper" so im probably looking for a fixed vhf to complement the above, something that wont give me the connectivety problems ive been reading about! i hope ive done this right its my first post . cheers .
