  4. Went out in Chrischurch harbour and soon found out that the repair i had done on the hull of my dingy had failed! Water coming in fast after 50yds, a quick turn and back to the slip.- It's 6:30am, the sun's shinning, the tides perfect, and i'm screwed. I parked the boat and went to a shore mark in the harbour. 10 minutes later i'm hooked up to a good Bass which took my freelined Mackeral which was split right down the middle. After letting it run on the rachet for a second, i set the circle hook solid and it was game on!. I turned the fish but it's next run broke me . I can only think that the ball weight had weaked the line, cause i had the rig on for a couple of trips. It was a day of almost, but not quite Paul J

  6. Triggers do fight well, speedy like bream but the power of big Wrasse. taste good too, reckon they would be similar to Leather jackets for those of you who watch Rex Hunt
  7. We were there on Jigabyte Had a call on the radio and Nigel went to check it out ,we were at Ballard at the time. Got there just before the RNLI Rib arrived. The crew were already aboard another boat so they were transferred onto the rib and taken ashore. Meanwhile the cruiser was drifting and smoking like a good un (good job it were neaps). We didn't stay to see it explode as we were off fishing for tope, it was about 8am. Fishing was a bit slow , we got 5 to 12lb

I did this a couple of years ago- never too old to learn new tricks after scolding myself- "how could i be so stupid?" i fished on for 3 hours then went to E & E you don't half feel like a twat going in with a hook in your finger, the only thing hurt was my pride. they numbed the finger cut off the eye and pulled it through Paul J

    Welcome Matt? Paul J
  18. Went out to the Bass grounds south of the IOW with my Work club on QT. What a great boat, it's really stunning and we had the added bonus of mr Peter Russel at the helm. Only managed to get a few eels so we knew it would be joeys for the afternoon but what the heck, a sunny day, good tides we had to go chance it. We got steady sport in the morning with Bass to 3lbs but things slowed down as we ran out of eels. A few were taken on Joeys but the fish were very fussy. Mark B was with us and doubled my total with 6, he kept a 3lber which refused to be released. He put it back twice and each time it floated back to him, so it was destined for the pot. I think the total for the day was 12 or 13. a really nice day out and good fun Paul J

  25. In California we used to have to hold a license before you could get into a Charter boat. The skippers were obliged to check them and could be fined if they didn't. not sure how far this was to the rest of the population eg: shore and private boat anglers but i woked as far as policing it. The difference here was that you knew your money was going towards artificial reefs etc and you could see things happening in terms of improvements. Paul J
