  9. I'm with Adam, It's a personal choice made at the time While i'm all for releasing bigger fish and Adam is a great example releasing an 11lb plus bass last year, it's not always as black and white. I will try to release my bigger fish ( got to catch them first) but i won''t make a hard and fast rule for myself and i may end up keeping one. Theres no point in releasing a Big Bass and then keeping 50 Bream for instance. Conservation and Common Sense should prevail
  10. Male have lots of Blue colours in them, Females dont
  11. Martin, Mark and i aret hinking about pulling out of this one. Main reason is that we have so much on at the moment , Club Comp, Dartmouth, Jumble, Alderney. I am thinking it might not be a good time to go with the comp on as it will be very busy and parking and launching would be a nightmare espeacially as we don't know the place very well. 3 hour drive each way for smaller plaice than you get on the shambles is looking less attractive to me. Do you fancy doing Weymouth again instead? it seems that it will be so much less hassle and will provide us with some additional practise fishing the banks in readiness for Alderney ( not quite the same i know) What do you think?

  13. Got out on Jigabyte today and the weather was glorious! I was with Allen and two of his Wandering Victorians (Allen and Nigels other fishing Club) Iain and Paul who were a good laugh. Ballard produced nothing in the first couple of hours so we moved to the patches. Patches were the same for ages until we decided to use the bait dropper and put loads of Squid and mackerel ground bait down. This brought them on the feed about half hour later, My First Bream of the season!, it's been a good weekend!. It wasn't wide open but we had steady sport for about 2 hours. These were mostly male fish in the Two pound range with a few females mixed in, we kept a few larger males for Tea and returned the females to lay there eggs. The boat got 15 bream, i had 3, the best going 2lb 2oz
  14. Great day out in Weymouth! Really good to get out at a different venue as adds a little extra excitement and anticipation. Launch went really smoothly and so did the retrieve, I was a little dubious about how practical it would be to trail boat the size of Loyal Royal but so far it's been a breeze. I don't think theres any problem as long as it's a decent slip, Mark is very good at towing and manovering being a hgv licence holder. so no problem there. Anyway, we were fortunate to have Billy Boy aboard who was a local and knew a lot about how to fish the area which we put to good use. We fished the opposite end of the bank to most of the boats and for ages it seemed to be a bad move- no Fish for about 2 hours. We did catch Launce from the start which was fun and helped keep us busy while our Plaice rigs lay dormant. I tried a new rig which incorperated bathplug chain and served as an extra attractor and helped keep the bait on the bottom- It seemed to work! First fish of the day went to me and turned out to be a pan sized Turbot ( 3lb 40z) only a baby but i was delighted as it was my first and i can now tick that off my species list. Mark the got a plaice of approx 1.5 lbs and billy got a couple of smaller ones. I then got a plaice of 2lb 8oz followed by a baby one. Fishing was slow even for the charter boats but everything considered we didn't do too badly. I got 3 plaice and a Turbot and the boat total was 6 plaice and a Turbot. We should do this more often!

  16. What we gonna do about bait Do you want me to see if the draggers are out Friday? Are you just getting your own? Should we order from Weymouth angling and pick them up Sat am? Do we need that many Worms or are Mackerel and Squid just as good?

Fished with Paul D on Neo out of Christchurch The wind was much better than the day before although the odd gust ripped through on occaisions. Lovely day with the sea flat saw us venture on to the Ledge to see if any Bream had arrived in our recent absence ( weather too nasty to get out). The answer is no! With the Tide running a bit we decided to put this to use and drift for Plaice along Southbourne Beaches.. The north Westerly Wind was pushing us off the Beach so we Zig Zaged along going from 10ft out to 30ft and back again all the way back to the Head. This was very pleasant and a good way to cover the ground but alas- no fish. Tide slacked so back to the ledge for the inevitable Dogfish. Nice Day out ( Thanks Paul) and Neo behaved herself very well.
  19. Make sure the OB is low enough in the water to push the boat Do a test run before you actually rely on it
  20. Took the dingy out today and sat just inside the enterance at the Run in Christchurch. It was pretty Blowy as i bobbed up and down like a cork. Fished a couple hours at high slack but didn't get a touch. Changed over to Beads and caught a flounder of 8oz, ok i exaggerated, more like 6oz. That was it for the day- too windy too stay long ( 9-11am) Saw the comercial guys come in around 11am so i went to check out the boxes which had mostly plaice and sole averaging 1.5lb-2lb
  21. I ordered the Bulk 25lb and the spiderwire saltwater fusion i'll let you know what it's like when i get it
