    Turbot Rigs

Guys, What rigs do we need for the bigger Turbot in Alderney? Single rigs or Wishbone? Loads of beads or not? Hook size?
  3. Billy me too. Bob, There a good article on bassing with storm lures on Pat Carlins skippers report at www.deepsea.co.uk Paul
  4. Billy, Yes Chug Plugs are surface poppers. Your on buddy- soon as we get back from the Alderney trip Cheers Paul J
  5. Still to try this so it's only theory But i reckon a slow drift with the shad on the bottom (shallowish water) with a long sweep of the rod at intervals would give them a nice action. They fish hook upwards so they should be ideal for nudging along the bottom. I want to try them through the enterance with a ball wieght and a long trace. Another thing i want to try more of is using a chug plug after dark
  6. Bob, I think that storm shads work at much slower speeds than that. hang one over the side and you'll see it does not take much to get the tail moving.

  11. What a Day! Could't have had better conditions, Sea Flat, Sun shining and no wind- got a red face and panda eyes to prove it. 2nd outing to Weymouth with Royal Loyal accompanied by our expert guide and fishing buddy Billy Short . Fishing was fairly slow to steady with mixed sport all day. I managed to pick up 4 plaice early and started to hear mutterings from Mark and Bill " golden balls is showing off again" etc etc As per last time my catches stopped and i spent most of the day watching them catch fish, including a 4lb+ plaice and small Turbot for Billy, Mark got a few also. We then moved to the Elenor ( a wreck off the east buoy) and picked up a couple of pollack of about 4-5lbs which sent the rod tips over.. Looked like good fun but you'll have to ask Bill and Mark cause i just watched We finished at the hood where we saw Alun J who looked like he was having fun in the sun- glad you made it- fun wasn't it? On the way back we went to see Gary Austin on Prodigy who was moored up for the night in the Quay and was going to fish Sunday-- we were very tempted to do the same! Oh, Billy joined the club- (Martin i got the dosh) Welcome Billy! Off to the Boat Jumble- more to come Paul J
  12. Two Nutters on one boat Must have been fun!
  13. Billy, You bet As arranged cheers Paul J
  14. Rich, very much like streamers and similar size -size1 is good tie them on stainless if in the salt or wash them after each use i use an eight wieght clear intermeadiate with a 10lb florocarbon leader for the bigger flies in windy conditions- lighter than this is more fun in good conditions
  15. Rich, This might Help http://www.artsnflies.com/pages/flycatalog.shtml
  16. Paul, I would love too except i;ll be Weymouth with Mark B Leave some fish in there for me! Cheers Paul Ps let me know is you see any repair work done at the slip

  18. Rich, no easy answer to that one, they keep changing their minds however generally you want fry imitations for bass-white the best-some good sandeel patterns are available, i;m currently trying surface poppers -(ill let you know -in progress) Mullet-either small white magott patterns or something with wiggle and a red tag cheers Paul J
  19. Mike, Adams right, Learning to cast first is a must. You will need to be up to it physically cause it's quite a strain on the wrists when you first start out. I will endevour to get you out somewhere to have a bash- time is the problem ( perhaps a couple of hours in the evening mid next week? Adam im sure your up for it? When are you going on Holiday? Graham at Davis tackle can give you some insight into bone fishing- There a website section called bonefish adventures linked to Davis tackle- sorry don't know exact web address cheers Paul
  20. Went down to Christchurch to wet a line and watch the sun go down for a hour or so. Spotted a couple of Mullet while walking down the bank to where i might get a Bass or an early season Seatrout. First Mullet i've seen, a good sign, Summers coming, it won't be long i think to myself. Further down i spot tails sticking out of the water- Dozens of them! wow there here and early too!. Im starting to get excited and quickly put up the fly rod, heart thumping and hands shaking. I put a fly right over the shoal, must be 100 plus fish right under my nose, this is going to be fun. Well maybe not, the fish were so preoccupied with the nose in the mud they totally ignored my feable efforts, bugger. I think that Mullet like taking the p**s, i swear i can hear them laughing at me or am i going mad?- jurys out. Anyway i persist and get into one, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ( thats my reel) I tell you what fighting these fish in 8 inches of water is something else! closest we got to bone fish. A small fish of 1.5lb but what a scrap, first of many this season. i hope.
