Hi Mike, I managed to get out on Monday and Tuesday. First was Southbourne, 4 plaice and 4 whiting. The west Bexington. 5 dog fish and 3 pouting. I have introduced a new fixed spool to one of the rods with 23 lb braid and tapered shock leader which has improved the distance whilst casting. Tight lines

Practice casting on grass. Get a tennis ball and put a slit into it which will allow lead to be inserted. Cast will not become stuck on a grass surface and will allow you to improve your technique .

Wow, what a fish !!! What bait did she take? Assuming live pout / mackerel? Nice to see you did all that you could to return such a specimen and that your patience was rewarded. Nice report.

Sat on the patch from 8 am and between myself and Martin Terry we had 6 fish within the first hour. Unfortunatley they were of no competition winning size and all ranged between 1lb 4oz up to 1lb 8oz. The wind made it difficult and we called it a day after four hours. It was fun while it lasted, congratulations to those who had fish over 3 1/2 lb.

I will have you know that those were big Whelks and caused the rod to bend.............at least until they broke away from the sea bed!!!! So the day was a blank but it is those days that make a good days fishing so memorable. Will try again this weekend weather permitting.
