  2. Hi Dave

Saturday would be great for me but dont have a crew that day. Can bring Happy days' down if any one is brave enough to come out with me, would really need help to launch.

Mid morning would be good as mentioned due to the distance to travel

    Thanks for arranging

  3. sorry to hear your bad news, you say you wondered how it happened 2 yours ago I kept my sailing boat there, I had a phone call from mooring officer to say my boat was up on a sand bank. Someone had stolen my mooring for ther own use and let my boat go and drift.sheered tiller and damaged the hull , speaking to some one else also mooring there they had damage too, just wondered if the same **** are up to tricks again.

    Good luck .

Thanks to Martin for confirming chanel 6 I will use it again next time and hopefully catch up with some of you. also Pete nice to know i was watching weed , oh well suppose we all have to learn. makes me feel a bit better though, at least it wasn't the fish avoiding me.

    Dave

  7. Thanks for that Rob, would like to come to meetings but it is a round trip of nearly 5 hours ,so I will have to rely on the email contact.

Was I right about the chanel 6 for call up on ?

  8. Hi All

Happy days had her first outing this year having finally finished restoring her and now running well.

I launched from Baiter Wednesday 6/10 just before high tide ( I tried chanel 6 to see if any of you were out but to no avail is that the correct chanel ?) and due to wind ( not mine ) deciced to anchor in front of the castle on Brownsea , with about 6 other boats fishing , didn't seem to be a lot going on in the cathing way, one guy had a couple of mullet and Bass.

My question is even though we tried differant methods ie Red Gill and sandeel lures along with crab, lugg, squid. Used a portland rig with a 4-5 ft trace Fish finder was showing fish at a range of depths from 7.5 mtrs. we didn't have so much as tickle.

Do you thimk it was just unlucky or can anyone advise of how I can improve for next time, we were out for about 3 hours so fished the last part of the flood followed by 2 hours ebb tide.

lovelly sunny day but went home hungry

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks for now

    Dave

  9. I think Rob your proably right, it does go quite well anyway.

it was a thought that if is was not going to be too much I might experiment.

Think I will be happy with what I have.

thanks for all your inputs .

    Dave

  10. Thanks for the info , wasn't sure if there were other things to look for, like which pitch is best and lengtht, as I understand that this can be varied for differant situations.

Any other tips would be grateful.

    Thanks

  11. Hi all

Finally took 'Happy Days' down to baiter for its maiden voyage after its rebuild, boat went really well getting up to 24 knots which was quite exciting.

Didn't manage any fishing just wanted to make sure boat was OK.

My question is when I bought the boat it came with two props one alloy, one plastic (ish). both have differant pitch etc but unsure which would be the best.

The engine is an old Susuki DT 50 any advice most welcome

    thanks for looking

    Dave

  14. Hi all

I have been given an Aqua-Marine 5600 radio, I have checked it works and can send and recieve - checking against my portable, but would like to understand the other functions.

I smile.gif know it is an older radio but wondered if any one an help with a user manual.

This Radio comes with differant names, and from what I have found on the internet is that as long as the 5600 appears somewhere, the manual should be the same.

If anyone can help would really be grateful.

    Thanks for reading

  15. Just as I thought I had finished restoring " Happy Days'" .

I took it on an inland lake to test it out as I have not had this boat on the water since buying it last year, everything went well, nice and gently to empty the bilges and up on the plane we went, managed 25 knots. had some good fun putting in through its paces and looking forward to bringing down to some proper water in Poole, thats the good news!

Back on the drive with water connected via muffs making an adjustment to the advance and retard on the Suzuki DT 50 I noticed water coming from the head, splits had occurred from the studs due the effect of alloy steel and salt water.

Off with the head! as expected studds sheared ( oh dear I said) having the 3 studds removed this week so will be able to get it back togeather soon.

My cry for help is can anyone recomend a good supplier that would be able to supply both the head and water gasget for this 1984 Suzuki dt50

Sorry it's a bite long winded.

    Dave

  16. Hi Guys

Can I thank you all for the valuable advice given, really glad to hear that it is more fuel efficient on the plane, although not full revs. I like the idea of the thirds rule , it really make good sense and the guide of 1ltr per mile also gives me a good starting point.

My boat is a Fjordling 17HT very similar to look at to the Shetland micro plus, although this is a mature boat it is still produced in Norway by Fjord.

It has an unusual feature of being able to take on water in a specially constructed lower hull to aid stabilty at rest, so they say, but have not used the boat yet to confirm it.

    Thanks again

  17. Hi All

As already mentioned in earlier posts I am new to this boating game and trying to make sure I get things right on the day.

Does anyone have a way of calculating fuel usage.

My engine is a mature Susuki DT 50cc and seems to run well in the dustbin but how far should I expect from 22ltr of 2 stroke in the sea.

    Thanks for your help smile.gif

    Dave
