Mike - I'll be out from Mudeford early Friday too. I'll be bassing rather than codding - especially in Friday's big tide - subject of course to getting some livebaits. Toby

I hope we are all agreed on here that we want more fish in the sea. As I see it, the best way to achieve this is for less fish to be landed. In order to achieve this, further restrictions on what is landed need to be imposed upon all fishermen. I say this because although I understand and agree with the argument that when compared to the thousands of tons of fish landed by the commercials, us leisure anglers don

Hola from Spain. Thought I'd post a report on our mega trailaway - to Southern Spain! 24 hour ferry from portsmouth to Bilbao - then a 600 mile drive from Bilbao to Mojacar. Great fun and 12 hours driving through the night was a breeze - not a hitch with the trailer - excuse the pun! As soon as we arrived, there was some to and fro with fishing licenses and stuff, and then we finally got onto the water. water temp 26 degrees centigrade. My first observation is that there is a huge swell in the Med - the long, rolling sort of swell that makes the crew sea sick! So, first couple of days did very little fishing - just some messing about with the kids water skiing and ringos etc. Second observation is that the water is v v deep - where we are you get 200m within a mile offshore. Because of windy weather and the swell, we hadnt been able to venture more than about a mile out. So we'd picked up loads of small stuff, various species I couldn't hope to identify, but nothing more than 6 inches long. If anyones interested I can take some pics of the weird and wondeful species out here and you can all test your marine knowledge by telling me what they all are. (shame they don't count in the species comp!) With all the small stuff we were getting a little fed up, and starting to think trailering the boat down here was a bit of a waste of time. Anyway, today, things imporved. We managed to get offshore, and did some trollling with paravanes. Here is the result What I presume is a barracuda? Anyway, the locals seemed pretty impressed. The only thing is that I'm not sure whether we can eat it - its sat on ice waiting for an answer! I have caught barracuda in the carribean before, and been told not to eat it because of some sort of parasite or poison it carries. So I'm off to the fish mongers later to find out!. Anyway, must get back to the Cerveca - if we get anything else of interest, i'll post up details. Hasta la Vista Toby

No plaice for us on MONDAR yesterday. Added three species to the species list, (nothing special) and there were a couple of Bream about on the ledge - although not to us. Endured a total fiasco at Mudeford slip on the retrieve when the winch jammed and strap snapped! Luckily no damege - other than to pride! After keeping loads of jet skiers waiting (what a shame) we managed to manhandle the boat onto the trailer without a winch, and eventually got home after a smashing day. Toby

Hi there. Just joined the forum and now PBSBAC proper. I wanted to say what a quality forum this is. So much help and assistance, and the members only section is great too - I highly recommend it. I currently have a 13ft Dory which I launch at Mudeford. Taking delivery of a Warrior 165 in couple of weeks - can't wait. As my name suggests, my main fishing is livebaiting for bass (mainly joeys or smelt if I can catch them off the quay with my cast net) - had nothing over 4.5 lbs this season yet, but am ever hopeful. That all important double figure bass still eludes me. So, I'll be putting a shout out for boat buddies to join me for the more far afield adventures - safety in numbers n all that. Does anyone venture as far as the rips or brittle star grounds in a 165? With the right tide and forecast, and with safety in numbers, I must say I'm certainly tempted!! Cheers LB
