Hi all, would anyone happen to know any mobile tyre fitter/suppliers local to poole that could do the tyres on my trailer? The tyres didnt seem to like the winter and now have some nasty cracks appearing in the walls.... Thanks Jason

9/. Why do some of the most experienced kayakers believe that it is the responsibility of boats to see them and not for the kayaker to be seen? Sorry, I was going to comment on this, but I really don't think I have to....
-
Mine too, they need their heads examined. There are plenty of places that would be suitable for this kind of thing but established residential areas is NOT one of them! Good luck. Jason.

Have you thought about just extending the pull cord so its more easily reached from the drivers seat? Just make sure its secured properly so it cannot fall back into the prop.

Exactly the same was told to me by the guys in the shop. Went past today and the move into the right hand half of the shop (if you are outside) is very nearly complete. Hope they have a better year this year. I love the rag they get in there. Only beaten by ones you have dug yourself IMHO.

Exact;y the kind of use I would be looking at too Nige. Thanks to all for your answers It seems that for me at least BB is deffo the way to go, just got to start saving now! Cheers all.

Whats the power consumption like on the new units? As we do an awful lot of our boating at night in the harbour I was thinking it would add an extra layer of safety in avoiding any errant mooring buoys. Having tied up to one of the new Barrel Buoys over near Brownsea I certainly would NOT like to hit one of them at any speed. They really are solid and very very heavy.

Very true Nige, even with the blank we are both still very glad we went out.

Me and the other half decided we would spend New years eve out on the boat in Poole harbour, bottle of bubbly to see in the new year and the opportunity for 2 days of fishing fun! Left the marina at midday on Fri armed with Rag, Lug, Squid and mussels. Returned to the mooring at 4pm on sat and basically to cut a long story short, we blanked...... The missus had two tiny bites and I didn't even get a nibble Very VERY disheartened by it to be honest. Tried loads of marks, rigs and baits for the grand total of a few crabs. Spoke to a few others out who had all blanked too... I will not however say it was a wasted trip though, Proper clothing stayed off the cold and seeing the new year in in a flat calm harbour and seeing god knows how many

In my book its the most beautiful fish in the sea. Had one of 5ft myself a very long time ago on a charter out of Saundersfoot. Great fish and well done to the bloke for releasing it.

We're aiming to get out on Saturday probably just in the harbour tho.

Fantastic fish! Well done indeed

Sure weren't Know better than that...

Wow! What a beauty! Very nice fish Col We were out in the harbour this weekend too with just alot of Schoolies and crabs being caught with a couple of smallish Wrasse too. Until....... Decided we had had enough by about 2 on Sunday but had a half dozen rag left so decided to put the boat on her mooring and dangle the rods over for a last half hour. Sounder read 0.8m and bites from littleuns prevailed until the Girlfriends (New and first rod) rod went off and she managed to land a lovely bass of dead on 45cm Her biggest ever fish and the 1st bass of any size to be taken this year by either one of us

On a related note, does anyone know the owner of a small boat, similar to a Shetland named "Tango" that was tied up by the now wasteland to the right of Poole bridge? Unfortunately she is lying on the bottom sunk

Surely the Marina is responsible. If they have admitted they moved it and the cause of the damage is definitely as a result of this then they must be liable? I would skip the marina managers etc. and speak to their insurance company direct.

Fished that area alot this year and I reckon with the type of topography under the water in that general area, 1 buoy off could have you either on or off the fish. Have been there catching plenty whilst boats very close to us have come up with nothing at all. Nicely done with the fish by the way

"Derek's Plaice Mark" Looks VERY close to my Bream mark

Without a charge circuit or other means of getting a decent charge into the battery ie. a LARGE solar panel, a normal car type cracking battery may well be a false economy. This type of battery typically has a life of 50 to 75 charge/discharge cycles meaning you can discharge down to about 80% just 50 times before your battery has completely had It. So ie on a 100 Ah battery this gives a total of just 1000 amp hours over its lifetime. Leisure batteries however can be safely discharged down to around 50 percent and have a cycle life of around 250 cycles on the cheaper ones. So for a 100 Ah battery this would give approximately 12500 Ah during its lifetime. Please note these numbers are just theoretical as total capacity is modified by your usage characteristics and other factors including peukerts law etc. If you're charging with the engine rhen a normal battery is at much less of a disadvantage than if you can't keep it topped up on the boat. Leisure batteries havethe same number of plates but are both thicker and heavier than the plates in a normal battery. With the solar charters, they are great but buy the biggest you can afford as the 10 quid 1 watt jobs will only actually charge your battery by around 0.3 amp hrs given a whole day in direct sunlight so say your electronics draw totals of 1 amp and you are out for 5 hours it will take 15 days of full sunshine to replace the lost power!

I often just listen on the handheld when at home in Parkstone, there is almost always something interesting going on. i.e a couple of days ago within the space of a couple hours there was a PAN PAN from a Yacht with fuel problems getting into the Solent, CG weather checks, lots of Marina talk, a Mayday from a Motor cruiser off Swanage and another Mayday from a well known Poole charter boat involved in a collision with a yacht. There ARE quiet periods but there is generally a fair bit going on. Definitely get your radio/antenna checked.
