    Best undies

I think the only fish I'd do that for is a big stingray. It'd be caught in the shallows so a quick paddle to shore for unhooking Watch this space

Weighing big fish on a boat is hit and miss, on a kayak near impossible. I weighed a small eye last year at 11 lb. I've also weighed an undulate at 14It just about worked. It wouldn't be fair on the fish. This year I've had pb Rays , tope and smoothys. I reckon my smut was close to 18-19 lb but I'll not know. I measured it and used the converter that put it a solid 19, but it was lean and muscular , not very fat, so I'll never know. I know smuts can be taken but I wasn't going to do that for a weight. I'm always well happy to catch a good fish though.

    If I'd have landed first......
  12. Fishing the Airshow on Saturday I tried a mark in the hope for a small eye ray for my species hunt We were being decimated by black bream in 38 feet of water so pushed out into 54 feet Bought aboard a nice "12lber", the typical sized Undulate Ray from this area. Had a few dropped on the way up. Brian was already into three on board when my maccy live bait ( a Big Mac) started to go mental. It obviously wasn't happy but then stopped and I wound into my pb Undulate Ray. The video doesn't do it justice as it was a paving slab of a fish Really deep bodied. It's nose where you grab them must have been an inch thick. Finished the day watching the planes, and catching various other species, and a first onboard for me too( although not on my hunt list) Here's a little clip taken from my phone The best part of the day wasn't the fishing Wasn't being out Wasn't the air show It was Brian's landing I want you to imagine a full beach Now picture a wave picking you up and you start to surf, facing hengistbury way. Start counting to 10. Youre surfing At ten imagine coming into 6 inches of water with the whole beach marvelling at your amazing surf prowess, then slowly you realise a small wave is starting to tip you "But I made it?" But you were wrong. Over you go in six inches The whole beach sighs and says together "ahhhhh. Shame." He surfed that wave like a South African boss. Finished like a Geordie brickie Highlight of the day
  13. Happy birthday chum
  14. Thanks for your birthday wishes Had a run up the river on the purbeck gem today. You should try boats, they're ok. Tonight I watched Kill Bill Volume 1, but couldn't hear a thing

  17. Once again flogging gear on behalf of Barry ( Barto) who has given up all things fishing He bought this for the Alderney trip and decided against it. The box has been opened but camera has not been used so 99.99% new I know nothing about this camera I looked on fleabay and there's one second hand for £100 I thought this would be great on a boat rather than kayak as it sticks really well to glass and fibreglass ( I use suction for my rod rest/camera) Also has the spare battery which is better to change on a boat than a yak, hence for sale on here rather than Anglers Afloat.. Comes with suction mount and spare battery Seems a tidy bit of kit I'll take £90 plus £10 to HOW please Here's some photos Not interested in offers so if you want this, first to call can have it, as long as they've got the dough Cheers Lofty 07740456081
  18. Well done the orange boat These "recreational" yaks cause more trouble than anything It's a rare case a kayak fisherman gets into trouble. If anyone knows people who've recently bought them please pass my number on so I can advise on minimal safety kit Lofty 07740456081
  19. I'll tell you one thing. Today from lake beach on the yak I must have caught 50 schoolies while fishing for a Gilthead. Plus over a dozen black bream baby's.
  20. Martin Payne, one of Heroes on the Water UK first users, there are now many, was on holiday in Poole with the family and hooked up with me for a trip out. Martin is no stranger to Poole as he is a Royal Marine and spent lots of time in the area before leaving through injury following an IED in Afghanistan I believe . I arranged to meet him and Geordie Brian at Knoll beach for a nine am launch We took advantage of the small tide and glorious weather to look for bass and rays but unfortunately didn't find either . Annoyingly I broke a rod while casting a Dexter wedge. The fishing was slow but a few wrasse made an appearance. We all had a great time with stunning scenery Nice to have some company and cheers for the loaner rod Martin A few photos of the day 9am at Knoll beach Hero on the water Weirdo on the water Ain't much occurring Garfish king Spot the chap Martin

    New for me.

I was tied to a buoy in Mid tide and I let go. I must of drifted 50 yards in 30 minutes. Weird tides

  23. Today I had a free day so for a change decided to try Christchurch bay in the search for something for the table. Plaice, turbot etc. Arrived at Steamer a Point carpark(£7all day) and just squeezed under the 2 metre high barrier. Loaded up and down to the beach before sunrise. The plan was to drift fish with a spoon and rag and a Portland rig with maccy sliver. I dropped the sabikis in and within 1 second had two maccy. Then the sun rise Pretty quickly realised that drift fishing was going to be problematic. The seabed along there is weedy, not sandy. It's akin to the solent instead of Poole bay. Later when I pulled my anchor it was muddy. The maccys were also fussy They didn't take feathers, or tinsels, only the sabikis? During the course of the day I had two dozen, but singles and doubles. The scad on the other hand came through in schools and I had several full strings. At anchor I was getting dogs, topelets but mostly junior smoothys taking everything and anything. I was hoping for a gurnard or something on the rag for my species hunt, but the smoothys dominated. The sea was most peculiar. According to my tide table it should have been pushing through but there was slack water for several hours. Maybe I'd found the centre of a swirl? The sea state became mirror calm and with no breath of wind it was like being on a pond. A school or about a lb fell to a Dexter wedge while looking for a gar.He went back. Then a maccy fillet was taken and I'd guessed it was an undulate. It turned out to be a thorny. I had my scales with me and he was 8lb. It surprised me, I'd guessed heavier. The day was rounded off by a 55cm bass that came home for dinner. Once again I was surprised by the weight. I'd guessed about 4lb Turns out it was 2 lb Got two good fillets out of it though so happy days It was a good little trip today with 7 species, but I didn't enjoy the weed at all. Cheers for reading Lofty
  24. 5lb without the bones!!! Nicely done pb
