Got a response back and was told that Lowrance and Simrad are made by the same company and they will talk to each other. Unfortunately Marine Meggastore are out of stock at the moment but they are getting another delivery in shortly. £1600.00 for a radar fit out is too good to miss, so will order one as soon as they come in. Just need to get it fitted. Thanks for the advise. Budgie

Just sent them an email, thanks Steve.

Looking at getting it fitted, had 2 quotes ranging from £650-00 to £350-00 just for fitting only. Yes, was the worse day I have had on the water, the boat is new and was on its 3rd trip out, had to cross 2 of the shipping lanes for East Solent approach and then get passed all the IOW ferries. A change of underpants was in order once I got back to Gosport lol. I am looking forward to getting back to Poole, not as busy as the Solent.

I am hoping to get some advise as I would like to fit a radar system to my boat. I currently have a Lowrance HDS 7 plotter/fishfinder linked (with a NMEA cable) to a Lowrance VHF with AIS receive built into the radio and I would like to fit a radar with seperate display. My thoughts are I want a second display as I can use the HDS as a fishfinder and then the second display as Plotter and Radar when required. I have seen an offer on Marinesuperstore.com the following offer: https://www.marinesuperstore.com/item/99407896/simrad-nss8-chartplotter-and-3g-radar Question is; can I link Simrad and Lowrance together and is this unit a good one? I have never had a Radar on any of my boats before and decided to get one when I was caught out in heavy fog last month. I was fishing close to the Spoils Ground, South of the Nab Tower, visibility went down to 20mtrs and it was an emotional trip back (was also on my own). Thanks in advance Budgie

I use a Conoflex Trioligy, and a Conoflex Asssssin, both great rods and both good for light fishing but also capable of handling big fish

Catch Reports from the Solent Fishing Guide Below: 15/10/13 : Johnny (Garrydog) caught a 10lb Cod, small Conger Eels and Dogfish during the day from various marks including The Spoils using Squid for bait, he says "Lovely warm day, slow on the bites until the last hour of the day.............a few dogfish, straps and then finally first cod for the year, result!" 06/10/13 : Duncan (WiltshireRam) and Pete caught Thornback, Blonde and Spotted Ray, Scad, Wrasse, Dogfish and Pout during the day from Bullock's, Spoils and Dean Tail he says "A slow day but we did get a good number of species, the best being a 11.5lb blonde. Tried for an early cod over slack but nothing doing." 06/10/13 : Mark caught Smoothhounds, Small-eyed Rays, Scad, Pout, Mackerel and Dogfish during the day using Ragworm, Squid, Mackerel, Lugworm and Cuttlefish for bait, he says "Went out Sunday from Chichester Harbour, first stop Medmerry bank, we had lsd, mackerel and small-eyed rays. Then onto south of the harbour, we had scad, pout and hounds. Weather almost perfect and not too much weed." 05/10/13 : Hugh and Ray (hchawner and Ahab) caught Bass, Pout, Dogfish and Bream during the day using Cuttlefish, Squid and Ragworm for bait, he says "Tried an inshore mark, and then further out at slack water, for cod, no bites at all, very quiet. Then tried Hayling Bay, lots of small bream, pout and dogfish, but nothing of any size, however picked up a couple bass with ragworm." 05/10/13 : John (sail&fish) caught Spotted Ray, Thornback Ray, Dogfish, Bream and Bass during the day at the New Grounds using Mackerel, Squid and Ragworm for bait, he says "Nothing big but bites all day. Little weed and sea still warm." 02/10/13 : Adam (fishface) caught Cod and Dogfish at night using Squid and Mackerel for bait, he says "Went out last night to my local central Solent mark, had plenty of dogs before my first heavy cod (over 8lb) of the season gobbled my bait." 28/09/13 : Adam (fishface) caught Bass, Whiting, Pout and Dogfish during the day using Squid for bait, he says "Went out for a few hours in the central Solent, got a lovely bass, some dogs, tiny pout and whiting, which were then used as live bait to no avail. Had Sabuka feathers out all day and caught a tiny fish on them, don't know what it was." 25/09/13 : Chris (islandgirl) and Matt caught Pout and Dogfish during the day using Mackerel for bait, he says "Lovely flat day on the water, thought we'd try a new spot mid east Solent that I saw on the sounder coming back from Selsey one day - looked interesting but clearly the fish didn't think so. Had a couple of hours on Bullock's looking for a bass but plagued by mini-pout, couple of doggies and that's it." 22/09/13 : Dave (fastliner) caught a Bass during the day using Mackerel for bait, he says "Spent the day on the the Spoil Grounds in search of an early cod, one bite all day which bit off the main line. On the way home stopped at the New Grounds and caught one bass of 4lb with the very last cast of the day, about 3 hours after HW."

I had my boat at Davis Boatyard for a month in Aug, was ok but found it restrictive as they close the main gate at 2200 and don't open till 0800.
-
Engine has done 120 hours, but thinking about it now it has been playing up just hadn't realised what it was.
-
The starter motor is U/S, had a chap from Shoreside Marine come out, he has taken it away to get refirbed, as he quoted £500.00 for a new one.
-
Took Missus Bee out on my own today, was fishing for some mackie just off Old Harry and the engine failed to start. The engine is a 2008 Evinrude 115 ETEC and the starter motor had failed. Luckily my 5hp Auxillary started first time and I managed to limp in through the harbour and back to Davs Boatyard, though it took about 2 hours at 3-4 knots. A big thank you must go to Portland Coastguard and the 2 small boats that came to help me as I was concerned about getting through the harbour mouth on Aux power. This is the first time I have had a main engine fail and I am very glad I had serviced my aux engine recently and ran it up just a few weeks ago with fresh fuel. This only validates the requirement to ensure you carry the correct level of safety equipment on board and keep it maintained. My wife often calls me a spotter for being safety conscious but better to be safe than sorry. Just gutted that I am heading back to work in the Middle East on the 21st and the engine is going to take a week to fix, so this may be the last fishing trip till mid Jan 14 (((

Hi Nick, I will be out today from about 1100 on Missus Bee. Quite new to Poole area as I have only recently moved the boat over from Gosport, but have found a few marks. The boat is at Davis Boatyard (next to cobs), will be doing the sme as you and staying close inshore.

Not sure if you have an IPad or tablet but have you thought about downloading the Navionics App. You could use the IPad as the plotter while using your HDS as the Fishfinder, this will keep costs down as the App is about £30,00. I have the App on my IPad and IPhone and it is very accurate and also a good back up if my plotter fails.

Got out about 4 and fished till 8 not much to shout about had a couple of hounds and a doggie. Was not prepared for the fast flowing tide and didnt get out of it in Swanage bay until late. Lesson learnt for tomorrow, so will head West around Dancing Ledge and see what's round there.
-
Thanks Martin, looks like the weather is improving so just need to find some fish.
-
Got a fishing pass from the good lady and will be fishing around Poole from tomorrow afternoon around 4 till 9 then out again Tuesday & Wednesday all day. Not sure who else will be out but good to hear from anyone else that will be fishing. Also not sure what VHF channel the club normally use, so will have ch16 open, as normal. Plan to go Bassing tomorrow, then wrecks on Tue or Wed depending on the weather.
-
Changed the position of the transducer today and it works fine. So after trying It out, i gave myself a stern talking to for not following simple installation instruction.
-
Thanks all, spoke to Redcar marine who I bought it from and they think I need to move the Transducer further away from the outboard so will give it a try and see how it works. Failing that, I will move in to the boat. Looking forward to fishing the comp next year Rob, only got home from the Middle East on Thu so not much time to get the boat ready and will talk the crew into fishing (and joining the club). I have a 2 day trip planned out of Poole next week (27 & 28) so will be good to hear if anyone form the club is out fishing.
-
Thought that Rob lol, the other 2 guys with me were not keen to enter, will have to tell them lol.
-
Sorry I didn't join in the comp, but it was the first trip in Poole with the boat and the engine had not been run up for a few months. Will fish next year for sure. Managed to get a few fish including 3 Gurnard over 1lb and and decent Wrasse close to 4lb.
-
Got the boat out for the first time with my newly fitted Lowrance Elite 7 and every time the boat goes over 6 knots it stops registering the depth. Does anyone else have a Lowrance or ha any idea what the issue. The transducer is fitted to the transom BTW.
-
Just got home and boat wont be ready, so Missus Bee won't be fishing the comp. going to get the boat down to my mooring tomorrow so will just run her up and get a few hours fishing in.
