As rob says , I also do not use a mono leader when fishing, just run the braid right through , for the same reason . I use a bead above float then a small elastic band . Pull one end through the other, around the line , Pull tight , then cut off most of the projecting loop. Will slide up and down and does not come undone. Works perfectly on braid. I have never tried the power gum , are there any advantages? Mike F

Hi Guys I remember see a post on the old forum about xd 100 oil, regarding a better deal to be had somewhere? If anyone knows or remembers where from I would be grateful . I need to buy some soon. Many Thanks Mike

Hi Fellas Could you give me any advise for me to pass on to my son regarding a good fishing kayak for him . He is hoping to buy something second hand. He is 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 15 stone, if this has any bearing on the matter. We are on the IOW so difficult to meet you guys and look at your gear.He is hoping to spend up to £400 on the kayak, is this realistic ? Any advice appreciated. Many Thanks Mike F

Hi Just looked at terminal rigs on new forum and can read all text but no images showing . Am I doing something wrong or is it not fully up and running yet. Thanks Mike F

Hi Terry When I said point me in the right direction , I did not mean where to fish , just general info on the best way to go about it, ie tackle and bait. If someone asked me the same question I would give them all the help that I could , I cannot see any reason not to . Regards Mike

Hi Nigel I was referring more to the Christchurch ledge area where I fish quite a lot. Thanks Mike
-
Hi All Can anyone point me in the right direction for targeting Triggers. i.e. terminal tackle and bait. Thanks Mike F

That sounds more like it Charlie. Dont get me wrong I loved the drifting for pollack and bass , it was just the anchored up bit with heavy leads i found not to my liking so much. Mike
-
Rob Meant to say at anchor. Mike

Rob When I said slack, it was either side of slack with tide running a little, it was mono, as I said a long time ago , dont remember what depth was , but mid channel somewhere. Mike
-
Charlie Very good point , I had no idea that you could not turn sounder off. As you say, very important in shallows , I dont really know to much about wrecks. I last went several years ago with a good wreck skipper and we used 2lb of lead on slack! not my idea of fun. Thanks a lot. Mike

Thanks Charlie Yes I am going the boatshow so will have a good play. I realise that there may better gear to be had , but no good looking at what I cannot afford , besides I think i caught just as many fish years ago when I had a 12foot dingy and fished right inshore no sounder let alone plotter,I used to do very well. Having said that I do like a nice bit of kit as I am sure we all do . Many Thanks Mike

Hi Charlie Thanks for all the usefull info, if I decide to stay with 2 separate units , is the broadband sonar a lot better that the previous generation, i.e. clearer image , less clutter , separates fish better , or is it mostly advertising blurb Rob thanks for that but I think I will stay with Lowrance. Mike F

Hi Niggle Thanks for the offer to take a look but is a bit difficult as I live on the IOW. I will be going to the boat show. I have had Garmin in the past but I have had the Lowrance setup for about 7 years and it works for me so I think I will stick with them. Thanks Mike
-
Hi All I am looking to upgrade my plotter and sounder in the near future. At the moment I have two 5 inch Lowrance units and am not sure whether to buy similar size or to go for a bigger combo unit. Has anyone done this either way round and regretted it, my gut feeling is to keep them separate although they will be smaller, what do you think?. Also is there enough difference between the Navionics gold and platinum to be worth the extra dosh. Any input on these things appreciated. Many Thanks Mike F

Hi Nigel The app is just for iPads and iPhones which I have. I have been in touch with Navionics and apparently I need to update my chart to get the free pc app which will also run on a mac, or just buy the the pc app for 60
-
Hi charlie Yes I have Navionics navplanner running on a pc but I have now gone over to a mac and it cannot be used , to be honest it is a bit basic and I believe that there is now a new version which will run on a mac but I thought I would see what others use and if anything in particular is recommended. Many Thanks Mike F
-
Hi Can anybody recommend any chart plotting or viewing software that will run on a mac and use a Navionics gold SD card. Many Thanks Mike F

Does anyone remember when in 1981 Ross Staplehurst from Bembridge was out sharkfishing 5 miles south of St Catherines in his 23 foot boat when a 400lb thresher jumped on board. With a flick of its tail it broke one mans arm . A guy I was working with was there that day ,he didnt stop talking about it for months. if you google it you will get all the info. Mike F
