Gazza and Coddy, Thanks very much for taking the trouble to answer my post, as usual this forum has a wealth of nowledge to share I think it's brilliant! I am au fait with renewing brake shoes and adjusting etc. but because drum is locked so solidly was not sure whether drum was separate from hub or not. Gazza thanks for the offer and you are right, I am on the Isle of Wight. Thanks again mike

Hi everyone, Can anyone offer advice on brake drum removal. Brakes are siezed on and I want to free them. Does the drum come of on its own or is it one piece with hub? Also what about the hub savers do they come of first or not. Any help greatly appreciated. I will ring Indespension when I get chance but I thought one of you might know. Mike

Hi all, Can any one recommend an alternative hook to a treble when using mackeral as a live bait. The problem that I have with trebles is that although they are effective very often the hook is deep in the throat and difficult to remove without doing any damage, making it impossibe to return fish to the water. Hi all Thanks for your help. Area to be fished very rockey so i guess paternoster is the way to go. I often fish very rockey areas for bass and always use a long flowing trace so I would not use a paternoster just because of the rough ground but only if it is thought to be a better rig for bream, which I think is what you are suggesting. Mike (not quite as mad as the other one)

Hi all Thought I would have a go at the bream that are around at the moment and would appreciate some help on what kind of rig to use as I have never fished for beam before. Mike

Hi there, If you have picked up a nasty and norton isnt sorting it out,try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and doing a free online virus check. On several occasions I have had a problem that norton has not picked up ,but when I run a online virus check and it finds a virus, about half a second later Norton then pops up says that it has found it. It makes you wonder exactly how good Norton really is. Regards Mike P.S. it will also deal with any virus that it finds.

Thanks everone for all your replies and good advice as usual. Mike

Hi Guys, I am the owner of a 9 month old Warrior. I was suprised to notice that about a month ago one of the toggles that hold down the canopy to the gunnel had come of . Until this time I had not really noticed that they were held down with pop rivets which does not seem a very satisfactory job to me. Since then four more have come of plus two which are hanging on one rivet. This is due to corrosion of the rivet, I am thinking of changing rivets for stainlees screws as they come loose, although once I have drilled the rivet out, the hole may to big to selftap into. I am going to contact Warrior about this ,but thought I woud see if any of you have had the same problem and what you have done to rectify it . Mike

Hi everyone, thanks for all your advice guys, I hear what you are saying about the fladden 12/20 but I am having trouble finding one on the net. what I have seen in my local tackle dealers is a leeda pirahna 12/20 carbon for 50 quid which seems a very nice rod . anyone got one and is it as good as I think it may be. As for the reel what I definately want is a lever drag. Tld 5 could be good but are they still made. It seems that there is not to much choice in the sort of size that I need. Finaly are you saying that all Abu's are made in far east or just some. Islander

Hi all, Has anyone got any experience with one of these reels, I am looking for a reel for a 12lb class rod is this a good combo? Any recomendations for a good 12lb class rod to, as stock at local tackle dealer very limited. Thanks all

Believe it isnt This is just a personal preference that I and many others use. After finding out through trial and error what is the best strength trip to use, it does not trip out accidently. If this were the case nobody ,myself included would use it ,because apart from safety in some circumstances as you have pointed out , theres nothing more frustrating than carefully anchoring over a mark then having to do it all again because the anchor broke out. my face isnt that pretty Islander
-
Okay Mike we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one,but the trick is not to have a trip that is 'overly strong' but one that is matched to the boats size and power, then there are no probs. Islander
-
Sorry guys but I cannot agree with you, it is a tried and tested method that never fails. All you have to do is use a trip that is strong enough to hold you in a big tide but weak enough to give way under greatly increased load, this is not difficult. We are after all talking about fishing whilst on board, not leaving a boat at anchor unattended which of course would not be wise. Perhaps those of you that I read about who employ a trip but still somehow manage to loose your anchor should give it a try. Maybe a case of if you aint tried it dont knock it. Islander

Cheers Adam, Thanks for your help Islander

I have been watching this thread with great interest, to read to how other people recover their anchors and which method they employ and I thick all aspects have now been covered but there are a couple of observations of mine that you might Hi all, like to think about. Firstly you should never! tie your anchor warp of at the stern, I watched as someone did this and nearly came to grief when the engine died in a fierce tide and if the passenger on board did not cut the warp quickly the stern was going under water ( approx 16ft boat). Secondly something that happened to me, I had towed the anchor out and I thought the chain was safely through the alderney ring and the anchor was under the bouy. I started to recover anchor warp over starboard gunnel when the anchor had slipped back to the seabed and dug in, luckily none of the warp caught arround anything least of all some ones foot. needless to say I am very aware of exactly whats happening when recovering the anchor. Until something happens to you it is hard to appreciate how quickly things can go wrong. Last but not least I used to tie my anchor trip as you all have suggested but I still lost one .When I was telling a old lobster fisherman he suggested that you should always leave some slack in the anchor chain between the end of the chain that is shackled to anchor and the point where you tie or use cable ties to tie it of. Then no matter what angle is employed to break the trip the tie comes under pressure and trips. I have always used this method since and never lost another anchor (touch wood) and I anchor in some really rough ground. Hope some of this is of interest. Islander

Got me to about 8.pm as I logged on to site but Norton antivirus automatically quarantined and deleted it. If you are not running an antivirus you take a big risk. Islander

Thanks a lot all you guys, although you all seem keen on the bruce anchor some of you and I have lound that in fierce tides it drags,to me the means an anchor thats not doing its job. Surely after having taken the trouble to sound out a good bit of fish holding ground the last thing you want to do is have to re-anchor because it's dragged.Looks like i'm sticking with a fishermans unless anyone recommends a plough or CQR. Islander

Charley and Mike, Thanks for your input,I am fishing from Yarmouth on the IOW, normaly fishing to the south of the island.I had a bruce anchor before and it let me down on big shingle even with plenty of chain, fisherman anchor has never dragged.even with fisherman always attach chain to lower end of anchor and tie to top as a trip. This has never failed me, so I might need some convincing that a different anchor would work even better. Although I think I will stick with the fisherman, what weight bruce would you recomend. Many Thanks Islander

Hi, I am waiting for delivery of a Warrior 165,can anyone suggest what size fisherman anchor I will need, I am guessing about 3 kilo.I would also like some advice on anchor rope and size of chain,so that I can use bouy recovery system (bouysize?). I pressume chain should weigh heavier than anchor. Does anyone know where to get a ring that splits to go around anchor rope(12mm polyprop?), or is there any other way.I would be very grateful for comments or ideas. many Thanks Islander
