  1. Yes Jim,I hear you mate,we have not changed it as yet,and after hearing numerous comments such as yours we may keep it as is............which is....."Blu Marlin" Gazza
  2. Welcome aboard mate, stay safe out there ,and enjoy !!!!!!! Gazza
  3. Welcome aboard fella, stay safe out there, and enjoy !!!!!!!!! Gazza
  4. OKOK,its out of the ark,,,,but its a start and didn't cost a penny as fella was upgrading ,its been used for sniffing out pike on the deep Scottish lochs and the wier pools on the river Thames so all being well it should be a ideal bit of kit for us to start with in Poole harbour. That said, have not used one of these before so once weve had the Lymington RNLI guy around to assess our littleun he can maybe suggest the best place to fit the transducer and we can test it out. I know it aint much to you fellers as your already further up the evolutionary boaty scale but to us its a small step closer to a part of our initial set up. Gazza
  5. Managed to get hold of a really good condition 6lb Conoflex Triology so well happy......but for those light days when wanting to throw an ultra light lure or baited spinner got a Shimano vengeance sea bass spin rod for 1 to 2 oz and a small Abu Blue baitcaster reel, lovely little light set up loaded with 15lb powerpro braid.
  6. Ok Duncan I appreciate you explaining it for me mate. Gazza
  7. Sorry Brian I had not seen this post, cheers for putting it up. Can somebody explain how you determine that the hull is only suitable for 15 hp ....is it determined by the Boat length 14 feet plus boat width 6 feet or just the style of hull on the craft ..?? Reason I asked is that my mate had been offered a good condition 30 hp but if in you guys opinion we are Better off staying with the 15 hp we have then so be it for the time being. Cheers Gazza
  8. Cheers fellers plenty of choice to ponder over,...... Yes budgie I've got the 12,20,30, and 50 class Triology that I had tailor made a few moons ago.....fantastic kit...but thought maybe The 12 might just be over gunned for small harbour species,as I recall when I used to bring a load of Lads down by van from Heathrow in the 80,s if the weather blew up the skippers would bring us in the harbour and my then 20 class was well over the top. Yes Mike,I use the kenzaki 20 for most things in the Solent or the 30 for blonde rays or taming eels off the needles as the rods arnt overly long but never had the need for the 6lb version till now so have not even flexed one. Thanks for the fixed spool heads up Wedger,up until now I've only used shimano charter special 1000, s for 99 per cent of my fishing And I know a mate that uses the slammers for all manner of species large and small so that is worth looking into. Gazza
  9. It's strange for me to source such light gear as I'm used to 20 or 30 lb class rods for fishing the Solent waters around the island, but as we intend on learning small boat fishing from the safety of the harbour I'd like to know what rods have worked for you. I'm a braid a holic so anything of reasonable budget around the 6 to 8 lb class, glass fixed tip or interchangeable are ok by me for flatties etc. ...small multi or fixed spool ,I don't mind, Of course if there is a good tackle shop I can do some flexing I'll pop along as well. Oh and I guess a light Bass lure rod might get my attention as well. Any thoughts ? Gazza
  10. Brian if you don't mind ping me your mobile number I'll try and send a picky of the boat type to you ,I'm sorry to say I don't know it's model type name or hull type ,anyway I'll get some pictures loaded somehow so that we can sort out the best options.
  11. My mate Phil and I are just going to join the club as we think that the inner harbour would be the best place for us to safely launch and manoeuvre around whilst we learn the ropes of controlling our small 14 x 6 open topped boat, plus catch a few fish along the way. We're hoping that although it seems the majority of club members have already moved on to larger boats for outside harbour use at some stage maybe you were where we are now so may be able to help with basic questions to get us started. At the mo we have a 15 hp Johnson tiller controlled engine and are unsure whether to buy a 5 hp emergency engine or whether it best to use the 15 hp as our safety and buy a 30 or 40 hp in order that Not only can we get in quicker should the weather turn against us,but once we are more confident in our abilities we mAy consider going outside the harbour to some local marks that are within out small boats capabilities. I'm afraid Phil is away working all week every week so he will rely on me to ask these inane questions As he isn't online. Cheers for any help Gazza
  12. Anybody looking to sell a ....... 30 or 40 hp short shaft tiller controlled outboard Cheers Gazza
  13. Hi Brian....well what a day.....what started out ok suddenly went horribly wrong with A phone call from St Peters hospital in surrey telling the mrs her brother is on open order with pancreatic cancer,so we have only just this minute returned and we are going back up to visit again Tomorrow while he's well enough.......so I'm sorry to say the fishing for me this week is on hold mate. Thank you for the offer and im sure we,ll get out soon. Gary
  14. Blimey Brian that was a bit previous,I barely took breath and there was you suggesting next week. Hhhmmm,i might be able to sort something, what did you have in mind mate...? You can mail me on garymueller@hotmail.co.uk if you want to nag,I will forward my landline. Oh and yes,it was funny you calling me Graham all evening but then I've been called worse,!!!! Gazza Plus I wanted to forward some info to you that you may be able to make use of for your chosen charity.
  15. Just a quick intro. My name is Gary,I share a small open topped boat with my mate Phil,it was/is called Blu Marlin but having just brought it we may change the name.....not sure yet.....I think Phil said he called it a small bass boat So don't ask it's type as I'm not sure,I'm only using my iPad at the mo so can't upload pictures yet but once my PC is up and running I'll stick a picky on. Its only 14 x 6 with a small retractable cuddy on the front with a 15hp Johnson,it's trailored and at my mates house near Lyndhurst,I'm Near Wimborne. Although I'm a life long sea angler it's always been as a paying charter punter so I've never had the worries off skippering,me mate Phil has had all manner of boats down the years so it's his sea going experience I shall turn to as I learn the ropes, must say its bluddy exciting to try and grasp the basics But at the mo we thought it best to join your club to gain experience of how best to get afloat safely and with the right kit on board. I was lucky enough to get an invite to your AGM the other night so met a few guys,Tony,Dave,Alf and Sally,Allan, had lots of info come my way..too much in fact...but I thank you for it and I've no doubt I'll use it all as and when. As mentioned we have a long list of needs to get the boat afloat so I'll ask about buying bits and bobs elsewhere, but suffice to say we would like to Use the relative safety of Poole Harbour to learn our sea skills and catch a few fish along the way but more importantly be part of your membership and hopefully make some new friends. I may be available in the coming weeks if you single owners want a (cabin boy) for the day,I can happily share squirt costs, and it'll be good to see what you guys do and how you do it safely,my backs a tad on the glass side so don't expect to much anchor hauling from deep water.....but I'm willing to help around the decks if needed and maybe catch a few fish ,plus if your willing to share one or two easily accessible marks outside the harbour once Phil and I are more confident we may try them on the smaller Neaps. Cheers all Gazza
