  1. Thanks again Tom Does this mean you're dropping out of the pin the 'ducer on the Shetland game? Has Mike frightened you off? Glass of cold squash still on offer if you fancy it! C.
  2. Thanks guys. The installation manual is pretty specific about depth below the waterline and angles of dangle etc... I've got a tube of sikaflex ready to go and drill all charged up... My problem is that not having had the boat in the water I'm not sure where the waterline is! Also because the Shetland hull is a bit 'gul-wing' I'm not sure how far away from the motor I can go before the transducer would effectively be mounted too high. Conversely, not being terribly well versed in this lark yet, I'm not sure how close I can get away with having it to the motor. If anyone fancies popping in for a cup of tea/cold squash and suggestions as to where I should drill my holes, I'll be in all day Thursday! Perhaps you could all visit, I'll mark where each of you suggest and we'll see to what extent you agree? I have comfy patio chairs and parasol for those waiting their turn at pinning the 'ducer on the Shetland. Choccy biccy for the winner! C.
  3. Can anyone offer me some assistance in fitting the above to my boat, please? The drilling of holes etc isn't the problem- what I need is some advice as to where to locate the transducer so that it works properly. If it makes any difference, it's a Navman transducer, and I'm wanting to fit it to a Shetland Family Four. Thanks (Hopefully!) C.

  5. And there's been plenty in the news about basking sharks on Cornish beaches in recent weeks, such as this picture taken at Porthcurno And these here C.

  8. Damn, I picked the wrong day... I think even my stomach could have coped with that millpond! Well done chaps.
  9. Mate, I was in tears of laughter reading that! So was the wife! This morning I feel like I ran a marathon- who knew so many muscles were required to heave! I really enjoyed the fishing, just not the spewing And many thanks to Tom, Rich and Sam for tackling me up and giving me tips throughout the day- some of them on fishing! I'm off to Boots now to get some remedies for the next trip out... Tom- can you post that recipe for Bass please? Got a bit of a raging appetite today, can't think why... C.

  12. An hour in the tackle shop on Saturday morning with the credit card and I left with a carrier bag full of all sorts of bits of metal, plastic and rubber- hopefully it's the right stuff! Hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll have a few pb's under my belt... not hard when you've never caught anything before
  13. Nope! Saturday was an hour in Poole Sea Angling Centre, then off to a wedding at the Haven, although we did get out on the water as the day included a harbour cruise. Loads of boats out there, including Bliss II which we passed by the chain ferry. There was also a fab gunboat out there which I have tracked down here Yesterday was a garden party which was a bit of a washout, and the football didn't help much... Oh well, the sun should be back tomorrow when we go out with Admiral Bettle
  14. I can't believe it. Lovely sunny day, flat calm out, next to no wind and no-one else is sitting in front of a computer, posting things for me to read...
  15. As I said, I'm happy to drive - got an estate car so should be able to get the kit in. I live in Parkstone opposite the labour club, just let me know where people want picking up from. C.
  16. Put me down for Tuesday please Tom. Thanks for giving a kit list as that would have been my next question I've got a rod, I've got a reel, but I haven't got much of that other stuff, but already scheduled a visit to Poole Sea Angling on Saturday morning... I told you I was a novice! Happy to drive us to and from Weymouth if that is any help. C.
  17. Are you still hoping to go out next week Tom? I'm up for tagging along on Tues if poss.
  18. I suspect that the offence that Mad Mike just shouted out for us is to put off hoarders rather than boaters isn't it? After all, surely fuel that is stored in a fuel can, manufactured for the purpose of storing fuel isn't a safety risk.
  19. Wow! When are you opening your posh seafood restaurant?! Hungry now
  20. Yep, have experienced that in Australia! There's nothing like a flock of Lorikeets dropping pine nuts on the metal roof of your accomodation at 4 in the morning to set you off on a good day
  21. Thanks guys! 33 doesn't seem too bad so far... Had Thursday off to go to the Royal Cornwall Show- cracking weather and jam packed with stands and exhibitors (distinct lack of fishing stands this year though), excellent to see there's some money in the Cornwall again- a few years ago it was looking grim. Then back to Dorset on Friday and in the afternoon we went to see Bon Jovi at St Mary's. Had visitors coming to stay on Saturday so still not finished Star Turn as I had to do some domestics, but compensated with a BBQ and one or two (or ten) cold tinnies... into the early hours of Sunday. A couple of hours kip and then down to the beach with our visitors where the sea was pretty busy with boats of all shapes and sizes. Have got quite a good stock of brownie points now so shouldn't be long before I'm out and about! Mind you, I was saying that at Easter Now back at work.
  22. The Lilliput parrots sometimes make it to the top of the hill in Parkstone too, seen in the road opposite the Labour club- and not just after a few pints of San Miguel! For a few years there were a pair of bright green parakeets too, but haven't seen them yet this year.
  23. Well done everyone- glad the wind dropped and the sunshine finally arrived for you all!
  24. Well, I did a bit of research, and as an example they are
