I`ve got a friend with a boat and they are looking for a slipway in the Rockley Park area. I think there is one at Rockley Park but as you guys are down that way i thought you could give me some info. He`s looking for a slipway with storage for the car and trailer and won`t cost a small fortune. Are there any better ones than the Rockley Park one but in that area?? Any idea of prices?? Cheers Alan

Spot on Tom. just thought i would add to the thread that any tank made for keeping mackerel alive should have a flow of fresh sea water. Found a site a while ago which said, i quote "The common mackerel has no swimbladder and uses a passive gill ventilation form of breathing. The fish swim mouth open and the gill chambers expanded, thus water flows through the gills. (Ramjet effect) This saves engery which is used by other fish to pump water through the gills when the mouth closes. Therefore it must move to live, if the fish is not swimming it will drown." I think that sorts that out. The site is here if any one is interested Mackerel Alan

Just a little video to show what trawlers are doing to our sea.

I`ve just about finished my livebait tank but now i have a question about the pump. My boat only has one battery which is 110AH, my Yanmar engine has an 80A alternator. Do you think it would be ok to run the pump (Rule 360) all the time or should i just run it now and then to change the water in the tank ?? I don`t want to end up with a battery that won`t start the engine !! I have the pump rigged with the in-let hose going in near the top of the tank through a hole in the side, down to the bottom of the tank and a 32mm waste fitting near the top for the water to drain out over the side of the boat. I`ll take some pics the weekend and post them to show how i did it if you like. Cheers everyone Alan

Martin, That makes more sense. I thought it sounded a bit dodgy, out that far in a small boat. Cheers Alan

16`6" boat and 30 miles out in awful weather sounds like a deathwish to me Alan

Anyone in a fit of madness thought of Kite Fishing for Bass ?? The kite sends out your live bait and it sits splashing about on the surface of the sea and then a great big Sailfish, Oopps !!!, i mean Bass, comes crashing to the surface and takes the bait. The line from your rod releases from the clip on the kite string and your left palying the fish like normal. All sound good fun and should get some funny looks from other boat anglers. No more so than when your kite gets tangled with there tackle and hoist it all skyward and it all comes crashing down on top of another boat 200 yards away Have a read here if your not sure Kite Fishing I must get out more !!!!! Thanks Adam, I just found this spray head which might be good. It`s made by Rule and is included in there Livebait tank kit. Oxygenator Spray Head not sure how i`d rig it in the barrel though Alan
-
Thanks for the info. I`m not sure though if the Rule 360 pump would have enough power to pump in from the bottom so i might put the the inlet about halfway up the barrel. I don`t really want to get another pump. The other option would be to get the inlet hose down from the top into the bottom of the barrel but i wanted to use tank fittings so i can keep the lid on to stop spillage. Any ideas on doing it this way ?? Cheers Alan

I`ve just got a 60L barrel to make into a live bait tank. The question is, where is the best place to have the water inlet coming into the barrel ? I see on Adam`s post he did a while back he has the inlet and outlet at the same height and says that he thinks this works best. Wouldn`t this meen that the fresh water going into the tank could go straight out without mixing with the other water, and would you end up with stale water in the bottom of the tank?? I would have thought it better to have the water inlet at the bottom of the tank so fresh water travels the full hight of the tank till it reaches the outlet at the top !!! I`ve got a Rule 360 pump and also a non-return valve to use but i`m not sure this would have enough power to pump into the bottom of the tank with a head of water. What do you think guys and where have you got yours ???? Alan

I splice my rope into the chain, it makes for smooth running through the alderney ring. 3 strand into chain splice It`s quite simple to do when you follow the pictures and instructions. If you Google for "3 strand into chain splice" you should find some more sites. Alan
