A 20lb turbot was caught yesterday on the local charter boat Felix. Things are warming up nicely, just in time for you guys
-
To be honest with you plaice here have been given the status usually reserved for unicorns and krakens they are that rare from the shore now However my mate who does a lot of diving often stabs plaice up to about 7lb The thing is we never use worms drifting from the boat over the banks, dont know if any of the charter boats do either. Everyone seems preoccupied in chasing the big 3 bass, brill and turbot. Time to experiment methinks

OOOoopps Missed that! Cheers, they sound great.

Any report yet Adam? I'm really interested to find out how they perform.

Register Mate!!! Some very knowledgeable guys on here. If you need any info or a quality opinion then you'll get it here Also you may well be able to contribute your opinion too It's a great forum and I'm nowhere near Poole

Nah Mike, Toerag won't do it. He's just stringing you along

This issue of commercially caught bass in Guernsey being entered for competitions in the magazine has been kicking off on Anglersnet. Richard Seager is involved with the tagging of 500 bass off a certain mark in Guernsey. He gets paid for each bass tagged and released. However as the anglers he takes out are 'fishing for the boat' you can bet its only the tiddlers that get tagged The rest go straight to market. Toerag is also involved with this tagging programme, the difference is he actually does tag all he catches

Mark from Alderney Angling was in Florida last week and found a 100l coleman box in Walmart for the equivalent of

Seen them! But not big enough for my Orkney Must admit I want a bit of a tint though. Charges a lot for postage too

Cheers for that guys. I'll contact Orkney first. The gouges arent too deep, only just into the glass. At least I can see how thick the original gelcoat is for when I need to sand her back again to bright red instead of pink!

My worst nightmare happened last night. Got a call just before 8am saying my boat had broken free of her mooring in Alderney inner harbour. Shot down there in record time to find her stern rope had parted leaving her moored only at the bow. This caused to boat to lie alongside the harbour wall which for some reason has large square granite blocks jutting out. Unfortunately it was blowing a NE 7-8, and in this direction it really is no longer a harbour! So it looks like she spent a good couple of hours mashing herself against the wall. Consequently I need some advice on gellcoat repairs White is obviously no problem but she's a red Orkney. Can I colour white gelcoat with some red pigment to get a good match? If so what do I need?

Interesting that you put the inlet at the top. I made my livewell from one of the blue barrels (found it outside the Indian with dregs of mango chutney in)! But I put the inlet at the bottom and its very slow to fill and if I turn the pump off it refuses to work when I turn it on again. I thought it was due to an airlock but maybe its 'cos of the head of water its pumping against. Why didn't I find this site last year

Trouble is I run 'em over then they sink

Paul, Sorry can't take a photo at the moment, my boat dries out on spring tides only. Sounds like you've got it sussed though, slacken off the central bolt and rotate the circular plate with trim tab clockwise. Weather looks good tomorrow, I'm off to a wreck on the edge of the hurd deep. Hope you have a successful day

I had this problem with my Etec90. When travelling at speed I was having to really hold on to the wheel and force it to the left. It got worse when I changed the prop to one which revved higher too. So I consulted the manual which said that the trim tab should be turned to the right This sounded like a type error as surely that would steer me more to the right. So I thought I would see how all the other outboards were set up and guess what.......all were turned to the right So I copied them and the problem has all but gone Gotta be some weird physics going on!!!!!
-
Looks great Paul Are you going to run it in a bit or just go for it?? The guy who PDI'd mine said "put it this way, if it was mine I would do 2 hours at no more than 2000rpm" So I did. Almost. Well, couldn't resist a full speed blast after pootling around for an hour and a bit
-
And now they've gone and brought out a 115hp That really would make the Orkney fly For Sale- Etec 90, only 7 months old, never been raced or rallied!! Reason for sale- owner upgrading

Here in Alderney people thing Evinrudes should only be used as a rough ground anchor!! When I got mine loads of people thought I was mad and I was beginning to wonder if I'd bought the equivalent of a betamax video instead of a DVD player However I'm over the moon with it, and now there are a couple of guys wanting to go out for a spin to find out for themselves The revolution has started

Cheers Martin. Guess you're on a charter boat in May, thats the month it all starts livening up with the visiting anglers. The Marais is the most popular 'cos of the great food and huge helpings. I'll keep an ear out as to whats being caught if thats any help

New to this forum and thought I would introduce myself. The names Dick Smith from, you guessed it, Alderney! I run an Orkney Dayangler 21 with an Etec 90. Hope I'm welcome on the forum even though I'm not a club member or fish anywhere near Poole! Congratulations on a really informative and friendly forum

Love my etec 90 on my Orkney 21 My advice is to run it on the XD100 oil and get the extreme version. A couple of times in cold weather the 'no oil' alarm goes off soon after starting due to the normal XD100 oil being too thick. Using extreme XD100 will cure this. My fault for thinking Alderney is a semi tropical paradise Other than that she's a belter!

Hi Kwango, I had the same problem of my new Etec90 maxing out at 4700 rpm. I had the engine up one notch and stupidly lowered it and the max revs went down to 4600 But more importantly, soon after I was steaming to a mark and all of a sudden the revs went soaring up to 6000 ish and we slowed down considerably I thought the prop had dropped off But as it turned out it was the prop bush that had failed. So now with a prop with less pitch she reaches the 5000 rpm OK with some trimming, just got to raise it back up the 1 notch and it'll be fine. So I would suggest raising yours 1 notch but more importantly look into a prop with less pitch before you shear the bush and have to limp home
