  1. I also use a two piece Penn flotation suit and because I assumed ( incorrectly ! )that most of the family would want to go out in winter I have three suits, handy for crew who dont have flotation suits. In winter the flotation aspect of the suit and the design to prevent circulation of water through the garment ( rubber on ends of sleeves ) are a definite plus, since survival times are short in cold seas. I also have a skiing jacket I bough th in the sales, which is great for keeping warm - windproof/waterproof but would be next to useless if I fell in. PS: No hot sea to drink on Neo ( thank god )
  2. Charlie, That is actually really good news. I have a chest infection at the moment, so wouldn't have been able to make it anyway. It will possibly mean competing against the 2005 / 2006 National Boat Champion ( hopefully )

  5. Indeed. The post on fish scales made fascinating reading. I was thinking should be no problem gathering scales from mullet as they seem to fall out from the fish readily sometimes !
  6. I guess this means James will be missing the species comp on Sunday - a chance for someone else to win but with the weather forecast will this mean it will probably get cancelled ?? Anyway - Good luck to James.

  8. Not as productive definitely ! We headed out to try a mark a little further out in the hope of the elusive cod. PJ was into a bass after 15 mins or so and then doggie after doggie. I had a lovely marked small eyed ray which was small all in all senses of the word We then decided to move in a little closer to the ledge where a couple of charter boats were fishing. I had a cracking take only to be pulled into the rough ground - I suspect it may have been an eel. We then had pout and nothing else showing. Still, it was good to get out fishing after 3 weeks and back in time to watch the football.

    Braid

Steve, I don't believe it was the rod rings, since it was a new rod ( so certainly hope not ). I suspect it was after having been in contact with someone else's line. I did have some braid which broke in the past and the reason for that was I had used it for mackeralling and the lift/drop action had caused me to ge the braid wrapped around the rod tip on occasion - evidently weakening it. Worth bearing in mind.

    Braid

I use a leader all the time and if have been stuck on the bottom and had to break out the line has always given way below the leader or at the leader knot. However, I had some new braid which broke halfway whilst dragging up a blonde ray on the recent charter trip. I am sure the braid ( 25 lb BS ) was defective as I have never had any break like that before and I know I cant break the braid by lifting with the rod at all usually. PS: Duncan, I wasn't using the Christchurch 18lb trace that day either

    Prop Damage

Terry, Propellor Revolutions are definitely the place to go. They repaired my prop and normally charge
  15. Are you trying to say I am useless as well ?

    Prop Fins

Dan, Fins didn't work for me on the Orkney but that is a semi-displacement boat. I think you will find that you will lose a little on the top end speed ( more to drag through the water ) but will get on the plane quicker. I remain to be convinced that they will improve fuel consumption , but as they didn't work at all on mine ( made the boat unstable ), I am not talking from practical experience.
  17. No spelling errors like this I suppose ..... sorry, couldn't resist
  18. Rich - Football was OK down our way ( well away to Colchester ) and it is such a shame to see Soton drawing all the time and equalling the league record for consecutive draws
  19. Sean, The marks should appear interactively as well. ( It uses image rollover ). Try hovering over the Christchurch Ledge writing. The link should be under the main forum categories - Fishing Chat Let me know if you still have trouble.
