    rigs

I think it is a very good idea Duncan. As we are a democratic organisation !! - I will put a poll as to whether this is a good idea or not.
  3. Intersting poing re: Isolation switch Duncan. I remove my GPS but have to admit to not always/usually isolating the batteries. ( Bad habit on my part ). However, I do have the power switched off at the switch panel and this will have the same affect. ( Had me worried for a minute though ).
  4. Mike, Thanks for the offer, I have arranged with Martin, but will need to find out what the insurance / repair people say first, so could a few days before I know what is happening on the driveway front. cheers Paul
  5. Fished out of Emsworth on my friend's boat ( 23 foot Orkney Day Angler ) on Sunday on a "hot mark" near the Nab Tower. The water was glassy flat and we started off with the usual dogfish ( I must have had around 10 of them to start ). One small Eyed Ray and a couple of whiting, then the tide slackened for what seemed like an age. As the flood started we were back in the action !! - with more small Eyed Rays and dogfish + one Thornback. No cod showing and only the two whiting. Steamed back to Emsworth around 4PM. A nice day to go fishing, but shame the fish didn't think so ( reports heard on the radio indicated this was the pattern for everyone over by the Nab )
  6. I have a problem...... My boat is sitting on the driveway at present and there is water coming out of the driveway .... There is obviously a leak in the water mains supply pipe. I therefore need to move the boat while the supply pipe is fixed ( I presume a few days will do ?? ). Is anyone willing to home my Orkney for say up to a week while the water pipe repairs are done. If you can - could you please E-Mail me at webmaster@pbsbac.co.uk or PM me or phone me as opposed to posting on here. Many thanks.
  7. Found this list on another forum. A few memorable quotes from George W.... From the 1st presidential debate, during which George W. Bush addresses Texas education and his valiant efforts: "...schools that teach 'at-risk children,' which basically means that they can't learn.."
  8. Yes please Adam, Helen is itching to catch a conger
  9. Adam, For one minute I thought you were boasting and referring to the previous post
  10. Maybe not Wick ? Presumably there is a slipway further up river nearer Tuckton Bridge ?
  11. This must have happened quite shortly after we returned from fishing on Sunday. Man dies as car plunges into Stour - Wick I think
  12. We fished XRay on Neo and had between us 1 Conger - numerous Pout, dogfish and whiting + a cod ( Only kidding ). My first ever conger - ( all previous ones have bit through the trace - Helen lost one this way as well ). Lovely day out and nice to see the sun and flat sea in the afternoon. Moved over towards the end of the ledge at the end for an hour and Helen caught another dogfish. Called it a day and came back in. Amazing watching the brown water from Christchurch spread out past us at X Ray as the tide ebbed and also is the entrance to Christchurch harbour really right over opposite Avon beach cafe now ( I couldn;t be asked to steam all the way over there ! ).
  13. I used BoatInsure and you will find they are the exact same brokers that Porthcawl use. Exact same price as Porthcawl as well I think, but all done over the web with no paperwork and instant insurance. Cost me

    Landing Net

Tacklebargains do landing net replacement netting and if ordered from the link above will earn the club money. Replacement Netting - XLGST A good quality replacement net, with green hexagonal shaped knotless mesh (approx 0.7" gauge). Circumference approx 78", depth approx 27" Not sure of the circumference of the landing net ( must get around to measuring it ! ) If the above is suitable and anyone wants some, we can order multiple orders together to save postage.
  15. Hows about this then - Not exactly lightweight mind ! but looks real good to me. ( If only I had a spare
  16. Bob, I have seen it written that chest waders are not a good idea when in the water. However, having hung from the front of the boat wearing them, I was quite impressed with the buoyancy I had However, the water hadn't gone over the top of them and filled them up, so presumably they will be not quite so buoyant in this case and would probably be cumersome to swim in I would imagine.
  17. Adam, Also South Today ask for comments on programmes they have aired. Could try them here :- south.today@bbc.co.uk and what are the odds that BWHW use the Wick repair as leverage to get their way on the pontoon extension ? - surely not !!
  18. Your wish is my command
  19. I always wear a lifejacket - only because if I fell in I am a bad swimmer and convinced my days would be numbered !! However, I have to confess when wearing the flotation suit I have neglected the lifejacket on occasion. The gas inflatable ones are so light you forget the jacket is on.

    Sunday

Coddy, Glad to hear it was not Gary ( esp. as he has the same boat as me ). However, it was def. someone in trouble as there was another boat alongside apparently and helicopter + Bembridge lifeboat were called out. They said it was a 20 foot fishing boat called Dreamcatcher. I presume they were all OK as there is only news on the barge incident ( which occurred at the same time ).
  21. Adam, Not X-Ray by any chance ?? The sea state looks somewhat smoother than it was on Sunday, I have to say. There was no way I was going to fish X-Ray after around lunchtime yesterday ( but I am beginning to wish I had gone there earlier having seen the catch pics. ).
  22. Press Notice No: Duty 2 Sunday, October 17, 2004 Posted 16:47 GMT SOLENT COASTGUARD DEALING WITH LISTING ROCK BARGE Solent Coastguard are assisting the captain and crew of a tug and its rock barge after the barge deposited its entire load into the water

    Sunday

Fished the drop off today and had a 4 lb Bass after 10 minutes to mackeral strip . Then nothing but pout on mackeral and squid and worm. Then caught the odd mackeral before the tide slackened and all went quiet. Fished to the start of the ebb but the wind against tide was starting to roughen up the sea, so we headed back to Christchurch. Interestingly the charter boats on the radio were also noting how whiting were caught yesterday but were not making an appearance today. Oh well Whilst back in Christchurch harbour we heard a fishing boat was in trouble near Nab Tower ( taking on water ). Dreamcatcher who I suspect is Gary who posts on here ? I hope all was OK.

    Sea States

    Found this useful table on the web. Good guide to the meaning of the various sea states reported on various web sites. However, the term "Slight becoming wavelets" is used on the BBC site - I presume this is say 0.5 m to 1.25m becoming less than 0.5m? Sea State Code Description Height(m) 0 Calm-glassy 0 1 Calm-rippled 0 - 0.10 2 Smooth-wavelet 0.10 - 0.50 3 Slight 0.50 - 1.25 4 Moderate 1.25 - 2.50 5 Rough 2.50 - 4 6 Very rough 4 - 6 7 High 6 - 9 8 Very high 9 - 14 9 Phenomenal Over 14
  25. James, Have trip planned to go out Sunday, so will hopefully have some reports of whiting afterwards
