my first trip out for six weeks or so, no cod or dogfish but some nice whiting really good to get back on the water again. andy

this is just out of interest. who carries a spare set up and is it the same as your main one. my main set up is 7.5kg i carry a spare that is 5kg plus chain and about 60 mtrs of rope for my 18ft boat. we have never needed the anchor but did need the spare stainless ring and buoy when the main one came undone whilst cod fishing a couple of years ago. cheers andy

update, in the end i opted for the furuno 1623. the unit is now fitted and had its first trial on saturday. unfortunately saturday was not the best day to be trying all the different settings, even so the quality with the factory settings was very good. a couple of times it showed up a wedge shape on the screen, would this be because the vessel has a active radar reflector ? thanks to those who gave advise. andy

if other members do not wear a life jacket because they feel that they restrict there movement and in general are uncomfortable you might like to give the kru sport pro a try. i tried mine for the first time on saturday and have to say, 1/ after 30 minutes i forgot that i was wearing it 2/ does up with a jacket zip 3/ side adjusters take 5 seconds to pull into your size 4/ five year warranty not the cheapest but being comfortable gives you no excuse not to wear it. piplers in poole sell them in the shop but are cheaper on there on line shop. hope this might be of some interest, andy

furuno 1623. i have decided to look into fitting radar on the boat, so if anybody has used this unit or others that are stand alone please could you give me some details on good and bad points. unfortunateley the new broadband units are out of my price range. thanks, andy

i would like to fit an internal transducer on the boat so any advice or photos would be a great help. i have a sump for the pump that is single skin so i think this is where it needs fittng. thanks, andy

the slip was closed saturday and i guess most of this week due to about an inch of ice over the carpark and up the slope to the top of the slip. even with a four wheel drive it would be difficult so a phone call to the harbour master would be a good idea. cheers andy
