get yourself some decent English Braids Multiplait
Surely this would be non-stretch Tom and not ideally suited to anchor warp ?

I'm just nearing the end of my RYA Dayskipper theory, and there's a whole section on "Cordage" i.e. ropes...a lot of this is aimed at the wind assisted sorts (WAFI I believe the correct terminology
) but there still useful info on the 3 main types of rope (Terylene, Nylon , Polyprop) and it's uses...sounds like you've got polyprop and should be using nylon, but if you'd like to see the chapter in full the PM me your email address and I'll forward it you as a pdf document.
Of course the offer applies for anyone else who may be interested in this or any other part of the course.

Those lovely guys at Southern Motor Boats
have promised me my new toy on Thursday, and my inaugral fishing day will be Saturday (just so long as the snag list doesn't keep me within the harbour !!!).
I too was thinking of Dancing Ledge ... do we have a convoy ?

Just as I sign up for full membership, I see that the first comp of the year falls on my dear old mums birthday.....how inconsiderate of her...hang on a sec though...Crazy fred isn't my mum is he ?

Thanks Martin, "real" cheque duly filled out, signed by M.Mouse and stuck in the post....
-
Cheers Mike...this is a real cheque this time though
honest guv...
-
...having originally asked the question about 2 onths ago I've actually got around to filling the membership form out and have a cheque waiting to be equally scribbled upon. Could someone please tell me who it should be made payable to and confirm the cost...this time it's definitely getting sent !

In all seriousness I too think it's a very poor taste photo...I'm not massively pc about these things, but I just like to think that people partaking of this hobby/sport would be somewhat more conservation minded. Is easy fodder for the antis seeing rubbish like that too...
-
I largely gave up fishing on piers because of the muppets you'd meet who'd refuse to return anything....seems this guy is a dye-in-the-wool pier fisherman who got sold a boat...I see its a Quiksilver...did you sell it to him Tom

Anyone tried using lamprey in the briney ? The amount of blood they're full of seems to work well in freshwater...would seem worth a try on the face of it ?
-
Cheers all...I'll see if the seller on Eby repsonds to my postage question otherwise Stainless steve looks good to me...
-
That's more like it
The ring on EBay is (as Kam has said) quite handy looking because it allows you to slip it on the warp at any time...like the AY...but it's a fraction of the cost..
So, IYO....which would you opt for ?

Thats not advice unless you're implying that the Alderney Ring on EBay is rubbish ?
-
Can anyone tell me why the Anka Yanka is so expensive compared to this item please ? I'm definitely in the market for one of these gizmos right now, and was looking at the AY....not so sure now I've seen the price difference, although I always thought that
-
Think he was implying the signal passes through the fish (except the swim bladder that it bounces off)...clearly this ain't gonna happen with a rock...with weed it's difficult to see his logic
-
I was led to believe by a charter skipper way out East that sharks don't show up on fishfinders due to the lack of swim bladder. This being the bit of a fish that would produce the echo...we were out after smuts that day (and caught plenty), but perhaps this only applies to the smaller species, as something of approximately 327lbs 7oz would surely show up ???

I'v spotted sturgeon on the bottom in 70 ft of water while I was traveling at 30 mph,.....try that without sonar.
Just doing some elementary sums, 30mph is equivalent to more than 13 metres per second...so if, for arguments sake, the sturgeon was 3m long (I'm sure they get bigger but this would by no means be small) and he happened to pass over it exactly in line with the way the fish was laying it'd only be underneath the boat for one fifth of a second....either this guy has a very widescreen display or he's got bionic eyes. Or pehaps he's a bulsh*tter.
I know which category I'm inclined to place him in.

Went to Southbourne last night ... similiar bitingly cold conditions and got 4 rockling and one schoolie between us....rag or rag/cuttle getting the fish...
-
I can only echo Scott there
She was perfect and I am dead dead dead dead dead excited about getting out there and into 'em ! I'm also pretty excited...
-
Thanks ! And you're not wrong ! I promised the missus that I'd finish my Day Skipper stuff before buying so still have to honour that agreement (in as much that I have ton submit to delayed delivery) !!!
Roll on mid April !

Thanks to Tom and the guys at Southern I'm soon to be the proud owner of a Merry Fisher 605, the one thats parked up at Salterns at the moment if anyone has seen it.
For berthing I hope to go for a dry berth at Parkstone Bay - have put my feelers out with Great White already
Thanks for all the replies so far, suppose I ought to join the club for proper now too !

Thanks guys...way it's looking in Poole Harbour I wouldn't get a lot of change out of 4 grand for a marina berth for a 6m boat !
Would you happen to have any contacts for the relevant local authorities ?
More thanks ! Mark

Hi all - I'm relatively new to the area and am weeks away from the CFO freeing up some funds for me to get waterborne. Can anyone please advise on moorings in the area that don't necessarily cost an arm and both legs (as she won't approve this) ? I live Southbourne way, so either Christchurch or (preferably) Poole and if I was going to be fussy I'd like something where I can walk on the boat at any state of tide and take her away !
All advice gratefully received....Mark
