what is it andy? I don't recognise the species?
-
heading out of Poole Harbour you would have to say that if there is any wind you would want NW. Even if it makes the 20 knot mark many good marks within about 5-6 miles will be relatively sheltered. this should not of course be taken as a blanket recomendation for anyone and everyone to head South - each and every skipper has to make thier own decision! overall i share the concern voiced that forecasts are no longer offering the opportunity to plan around boat speed and fishing areas - not least because there is clearly 'weather' around and timings can change quickly. Finally a plea - please leave me enough space in the Wareham channel - thank you
-
I might well require bigger bino's m8..........and then again I might not! In fact I might even share drifts with you! not usually a bass man but I do agree the committment expended by BASS deserves some reciprocation
-
welcome Phil - lok forward to meeting up with you at some point.
-
can I have the ensign / flag mast please? is it possible to close the deal on Sunday after the comp in the Mariner?
-
ah welll simply to disagree with a gay badger is fun (apparantly) so I am going to go for heaviest flat - turbot specimen flat - brill best specimen round - huss the heaviest round is a bit of a tough one though............ and I put the top bass at 8lb..........a double on demand and those tides will be some fishing.
-
oooooh a trailer - that would be usefull for getting the leads too and from the boat for these winter sessions!
-
the forecast is indeed looking promising! if it holds like that we are in for an exciting day methinks - with boats bombing around looking for that elusive specimen then dashing back to weigh in............. last Sunday gave me some great info on where not to fish. .....,but then again the tides will be so different
-
only just big enough to weigh in next week surely Charlie? Paul will have to do a lot better than that tidler!
-
as I said ear;ier - not questioning the seamanship only the direct issue of 'not being able to find the channel in fog' as Paul highlighted - his return in daylight was effectively the same problem as he couldn't see the buoys then either! can't have been that foggy or there would have been vessels making the appropriate sound signals.............. .............. the good news ablout yachts and fog is they tend to need their engines due to lack of wind - the bad news is that they are very quiet!
-
they say learning properly involves some pain Paul........... despite 3 chart plotters I have more confidence in my track than the boyage in the harbour. I take care to travel as near as possible in the centre of small channels I expect to return through.
-
whilst I understand that radar is a luxury I thought just about everyone had a gps showing their track and /or waypoints if not a chartplotter ? what happens at night? please don't anyone take this as a slur on the seamanship or otherwise of those acting this way; quite the opposite - someone deciding to put safety first gets al the ticks in my book. Just interested.

I have to say that a 3lb bass Sunday owes it's future to these guys already - I just looked at it, initially saw ginger and spring onions, then the effort being put in here kicked in and the little guy was carefully returned............... ah well

Couldn't resist the forecast and some hard begging saw me leave Tonbridge (hotbed of angling!) Saturday pm for the run down to Poole. A quick lube and level job later and I left the boat, heater on, for the club and a few beers. Nice warm boat, clear screen etc, Sunday saw us head off via the fuel berth, to the promised mirror calm sea and a bountyfull catch................ah well a lazy Northerly, a dodgy plotter, the wrong cartridge in another and a broken thermos quickly showed us the way of the day! Messed around for an hour looking for our mark with the sonar saw us give that one up and head for one we had 'numbers' rather than a waypoint plotted..............get there and can't find diddly on the sonar - prod the plotter button for the 100 th time cursing it and the damm thing springs into life! Back to the banks just in time for the ebb saw no bites and eventually we had had enough. Hearing little success locally we headed off to an area suggested by Phil (Mistress Linda) the night before. Anchor down, lines away and bites straight away! A fair few hours fun with whiting, pout, bass and dogs - all returned except a pair of whiting - and we headed back happy after watching the sun go down. Lets hope we get the weather next week...............
-
say Jack; not quite in the spirit of things wot? btw hows that 9lb 'plaice' pic coming on? did you manage to get rid of the tubucles and get the spots on it OK?
-
I assume you will have a laptop with a card reader for the evening Paul - so you can simply down load and display straight away regardless of source? If you have bluetooth as well you should be able to 'grab' straight from bluetooth enabled phones as well! You may however have to wait for the output from a box brownie............
-
I have always managed to get it over the counter from Cobbs chandlery
-
think he was 'organising' and 'planning' too much and not fishing enough BB!!
-
if we are voting then the one in Charlies post is a Red and the other a Tub. glad your crew are resting Charlie - have feeling you are planning a busy year next year and I expect to see at least 4 club records get adjusted up by your efforts in 2007.
-
be nice to see some pictures of these great catches - can't remember what a cod looks like!
-
indeed it is - what with telephones and the internet! in this case it was of course assisted by the first decent weekends weather for a long long time and a desire (from one who was tied to a stove/bbq/hog pit for the weekend) to find out what's happening as a prelude to the Open............ I am assuming that Rich didn't manage much of his much vaunted 'hit list' - probably trying to ditch the gay badger tag! At this rate the Open will be anchored up with 20 calamari on a pennel and a few bevies whilst waiting for that monster to turn up...........
-
don't know about these whispers but sitting here in Edinburgh I heard about one of 14 1/2lb weighed in at the shop over the weekend - is this the same fish? are we absolutely sure it's a cod and not a new club record whiting? whatever - nice catch; didn't get one myself last winter and we all know how rare they were for the last couple of seasons.
-
looks very good - and glad to see the drinks are still in there........... over recent years I thinks it's fair to say that I have gone further than many in this area - I don't even catch them in the first place. however I love a challenge!
-
this has to be the most pathetic excuse yet......................... wrist I could understand but ankle seems a dream ticket on a trail boat ..."OK guys you realsie I will have to have a (the) seat for the whole trip, that includes the launch and recovery, please pass my lunch, please pass the bait, etc etc etc
-
It was the drinks bit I'm counting on - with a crew of 16 and everyone staying over Sunday for a session in the Marina Bar it could get exciting eh? Looking forward to meeting you
