  1. they just use it for practice coming alongside........
  2. Sorry Kam but "legally" this is not correct. Simply you need a ships radio licence for your vessel - you can apply for this online - to install a VHF onto the vessel. Once you have this you are fine to install. You will not be prosecuted were you to use this set in an emergency or under the instruction of a VHF Certificate holder. Other VHF certificate users can use the set. You should clearly get yourself on a course as soon as practical but 'legally' it's not the prioity of getting the Ships Radio Licence for your vessel. Moving into a greyer area were you to apply for the Ships Radio Licence you might feel you could install the radio before you had the piece of paper in your hand................ you would probably be wrong but... There is a longer thread on here around 2 weeks ago that has links etc Duncan
  3. cheers Bob - would you like the money in advance?

    Wrecks

shads - yes inshore wrecks for anything but (smallish) pollack or pout - no however inshore wrecks for conger fun are a big yep as evidenced by the catches of boats this year so far - although rough ground and the various reefs are also great after dark.
  5. ah but all the really good crew are revolting............... ....as highlighted elsewhere!
  6. taken from Great White?
  7. net and ring for me please.......... 48" diameter sounds really good! deja vu here - can't help feeling I posted this last year too
  8. Kam, It's the mark of a truly great skipper to be able to position his boat that accurately...............
  9. Chucking my 2p in I would have thought you will be able to enjoy the occassional trip offshore as crew and, more importantly, get to use your own as often as you want in the wonderfull inshore waters. I wouldn't compromise on launching / running costs and fishability therefore - or to put it anotherway if I were buying you a retirement present it would be a 520/580? orkney with about a 40 hp 4 stroke motor and a bit of shelter........ up untill a couple of weeks ago when was the last trip to the rips by the warrior brigade?
  10. some even jumped ship!
  11. am able to add the following which is the best illustration of what it must have been like on Sweet Honey heading out to the RIPS from all the comments posted airborne I have left it a link rather than posting the image as it is copyrighted but available there.
  12. when you find one let me know as I need one too - the crew have all revolted over the existing alloy / short handled (for our freeboard) one.
  13. Congratulations James - enjoy! As said many weeks ago, I would be impressed if you could fit this in to your (competition) fishing schedule - well I am impressed!
  14. Martin, They said they couldn't afford it what with fuel costs etc.......... Sugggested they speak to Kam about re-engining for economy
  15. Small conger - (boot)strap size just bigger than a (boot)lace..........
  16. i just happened to have my video camera running on the way out...............video please have your sound turned up!
  17. trend here guys (and it's inconsistent with someorders I have seen) anyone actually catch anything on something not orange/red/pink?
  18. Echo this John's a great guy. He was round in Swanage in his old converted (barely) lifeboat last summer. His trick, if it is a trick, is only to deal in products he knows and has in stock. And if you want to talk to anyone about image intensifiers or night sights he's your man!
  19. Martin your economy will be a function of the DFI but even more it will be because off the throttle setting/revs you cruise at relative to the exponetial fuel/rev curve of all these engines. If you run over 5000 rpm you will suffer with everyone else! My consumption would have been hit by the swell going out like many, and the fact that the hull and drive could do with a really good clean despite antifouling.... horrible drag. Cost me around 15% on consumption...
  20. So who is heading out to the rips this weekend ? Similar height of tide, floods through the afternoon so no need for silly start times, and a better forecast than last week! or is everyone working out how much fuel adn anchor line they would need for the hurd deeps???
  21. if you mean a downrigger I am not sure that (1) they come with 170m of wire and (2) whether you could anchor Sweet Honey with it anyway...........
  22. time for a new anchor rode then............. on second thoughts I don't think my anchor locker would take 600m of warp! just straps in that wreck Charlie?
  23. We must have passed you sometime Friday night as we ran in past Dancing ledge at dusk, from the Sky, over Evan's Rock and into the harbour.......... Were you on a buoy where the North and Main channels divide?
  24. Kam - that I agree. More than one comment on how much winding etc Having a reasonably fast retrieve rate on your reel helped! Funily enough though no one ever complained about having to wind a fish up that distance!
  25. more importantly what the hell was 2lb of lead being used for? bashing them on the head????? sympathise re fish guts - I ended up using the scouring side of the sponge and will pay the price in due course by having to repolish the whole damm boat to get rid of the tiny scratches
