  1. when will the call off be if and when it comes?
  2. yep - looking at a forecast that is detiorating not improving; can't believe it's happening when I have an open fishing pass! Sat pm
  3. I have seen a couple of 7200 units installed recently and no one has a bad word against them. numeric keypad for entering numbers seems a good idea but I reckoned I am not going to be 'dialing' new numbers at sea, only using ones I already have programmed. Still a little concerned that I only have 100 memory slots - PBSBAC group should take half of those shortly!

    Monday Eve

As it looks like we will get to fish the ebb, the ebb and not a lot other than the ebb I can't say I'm looking forward to Sunday anymore...........
  5. Had exactly that discussion with Adam over his great pics! my experiences have them trying to bite off my nose given half a chance! suppose I could try it once more............
  6. Jack, So now you have discovered the only thing worse when not catching than seeing schoals of large fish on the fishfinder - sitting next to someone else hauling out fish! Better luck next weekend.
  7. Generally Adam you spend far more time afloat in your boat than the majority of trailboaters. It's not just engine hours either as you are at anchor for hours on end, or drifting etc. I have 4 largish anodes that are completely eaten away in 4 months so the scale of your's would seem pretty fair. From memory I replaced the tabs on my OB's after 2 years but they didn't get anything like the use you do.
  8. yep - large mouths and a tendency to suck in a whole bait rather than nibble and chew! Don't forget that the circles were designed origionally for self hooking on longlines and have been adopted heavily by anglers fishing catch and release because if you do hook up it will be in the jaw somewhere rather than the gut.
  9. very different baiting for the two types of hook. Consider a compass with the bottom of a hook bend at 180 degrees and the hook point at 270 generally the J hook requires you to leave the hook point, barb and about 90 degrees from 270 - 180 clear of the bait generally a circle requires the whole of the gap from 270 round to the shank to be completely clear. It folllows that you basically hang your bait from the bend of a circle, hooking it near the edge. Good baits for this are cuttle strips, mackerel strips and, to a lesser degree, squid strips - all because they are tough and the fish will take them into their mouth before pulling them off the hook. Also excellent is a mackerel tail section, tail removed and hooked through the stump - really tough and great hooking potential. Can also hook frozen sandeels this way. Whole Calamari squid hooked through the top of the mantle hang well, especially in a current, but can be pulled of the hook quite easily.
  10. Bob I agree about the lack of ability to show position info back from the radio direct to the plotter. However as you get it showing on the screen you can always plot it as a waypoint. If you have sent a position request to another club memeber you will probably want to plot it anyway! The Navionics Gold cartridges seem very 'protected' they work in the unit but you can't back them up.......or seemingly view them easily. There are suggestions that you can share them on some PC packages but I haven't tried for a couple of years. I can create and edit waypoints etc using cs files but frankly I am either marking where I am at the time or pointing on the chart to somewhere I like the look of going to.......
  11. The other minor issue would be that you can fish two rods in the club comp but only one in the other. For bream that's less of a issue than othertimes!
  12. I won't - but I have a pass for next Sunday!

apart from cold and low pressure East winds here are normally associated with changeable weather which most wildlife dislikes. They are 'programmed' to react positively to prevailing conditions in general and for us that's SW.
  19. with the exception of mackeral I think you can take that one as read Speciman

NE 6's and 7's will make that rather more interesting than usual (if Theyr's predictions for 0100h Sat pan out............... ) Ballard and the Patches will be pretty exposed too...... Maybe it will all die down by 0800h Sat or at least for Sunday...........
