  1. Hi all I’ve been looking onto this technique myself and had a go last trip which seemed to work, I’ve also learned the “alpine knot” for creating a quick and easy to undo knot along the anchor line when it initially goes slack to attach to the carabiner on the rope that goes to the bow. I’m experimenting with carabiner directly onto the buoy which is a size A2 which also attaches the ring and the 4 x2 with a hole in it
  2. I was actually looking earlier today they have a decent self adhesive range in Amazon, I’m thinking of sticking one in, ideally one to remind me of take out dimensions
  3. I assume 6 miles has some bearing on it 😁
  4. Where is the 6 mile banks ? Is it marked on navionics or the name of a general area ?
  5. That looks great 👍
  6. I’m down for a week with my son from 18th to 27th July I think I’ll pop and visit the marina to see what options they have, I did have an arrangement last year for out of season weekend trips but I never did any due to weather and other conflicting events.. I definitely don’t want mooring though, no anti fouls for me 😁
  7. Hi all, I’ve joined Sea Start today so feel a bit less vulnerable out there
  8. Thanks for info, joining seastart seems a very good idea and I’m seriously considering either not using the engine or only taking for a trip near dangerous obstacles like the needles .. or I’ll simply keep the engine in tick over close to dodgy areas rather than risk a non start which presumably would be more likely than a failure whilst tick over .. I did think about tying it up but that feels counter productive certainly if I needed it I’d most likely be in a stressful safety avoidance situation. The mechanism is very basic there is no latching mechanism just sits in a recess. also it only fails on a choppy journey with plenty of movement as I’m sure at some point it frees itself
  9. For my experience first time was a disaster and never cared for the spool lay and the dyna cord pulled through the side, had to take side off the winch to free it up.. lesson learnt … the last 2 attempts it’s easy to guide it with the fingers as it isn’t tight at all and easily can be guided one side to another .. but it’s a shallow ramp so may be different on another ramp
  10. Hi All I have a Tohatsu 6hp auxiliary, only been out 3 times and on each trip it manages to bounce itself either releasing the mount and dropping down or releasing itself from its up position and becoming in its vertical position. Every time this has happened it’s a battle to try to get it back to position overhanging the boat. Are these engines actually worth carrying onboard ? Are they even practical to use as I’m not sure how I’d even steer it in a practical sense . In the event of a breakdown is it better to just anchor and enrol to a breakdown service like Seastart ? Thoughts please ?
  11. Hi Graham I opted for an electric winch from Warrior and having used it 3 times I can say its absolutely fantastic, entering into the Frome at right angles to the flow, albeit not very fast but still pulls the boat downstream I have threaded the dyna rope through the roller coaster trailer and then pull the boat towards the rear rollers, then small gentle tweeks on the remote control and the boat will pull itself inline with the trailer and then I simply put it into fast mode and the boat glides on, finally attaching the winch strip around 2 foot from the final position to remove the electric winch hook. Extreme supplied the mechanical support with the trailer, the winch is from Winchmax and a 3000 but it only ever pulls a couple of hundred KG force according to Warrior..
