  1. Unleaded fuel will "go off" quicker than theold leaded petrol. 3-4 months max before you'll get problems, which you have! If your leaving it longer than that then you could add an addative like Fuel Set or Stabil. I use Fuel Set as it also combat the water that accumulates from condensation in the tanks. The only rally sure way is to run the tank down to empty if your not going to run it for anylength of time. Probably best to drain off what you have and mix it with petrol used in the car and refill with fresh in the boat. Have you removeable tank or built in tanks?
  2. I've found Accuweather to be one of the better weather sites. For tides I fing it best to have a copy of the tables, Piplers do/did a decent diary type, a tidal atlas and a tidal curve for the area. Tidal curve a must for poole. Seeing as I'm limited to mostly weekends then I can plan the tides well in advance and then just keep an eye on the weather updates. It does limit me to going out, but hey, I've got a trek to get there!
  3. I put the same type of boiler in my mums place a few years ago. Its the same make, Worcester. Worcester were taken over by Bosch. If its the same type of PR valve then I repaired my mums one by descaling it. In areas with hard water, ie Poole, you'll get quite a build up of scale on the seals. If its the scale thats making it leak. I found soaking it in vinegar over night....it was the only acid I had to hand, sorted it with a bit of prodding and poking. Seems tohave been fine for the past year or so with no probs.............yet!
  4. Another old reel of mine a Penn Delmar No286 is proudly embossed in the Bakerlight side plate. Sort of maroon in colour. Was bought by my father moons ago. Not sure when, but I can always remember him using it every trip. What sort of age is this reel? I'm reckoning around the early 70's. Anyone got an idea? Doubt its worth much. Can you still get spares for them?
  5. I built a mirror dinghy many moons ago. I know building from a kit isn't the same thing but gives an insight in what goes into the design of the thing! I think you need to be one of those people that can turn their hand to anything or at least willing to learn.
  6. Fullers, but I doubt wether you'd be doing much fishing round here I'm in Surrey! I'm what the locals down there term as a Grockle. Tho I doubt I'm a fully blown grockle as my Grand Father lived in Parkstone for many years. Some good course fishing up here tho!
  7. I've had a Shakespeare Sigma 300 series multiplier for just over 20 years. I say Shakespeare, its the same as the old Mitchell 325, only its finished in black. Anyway I needed a new set of drag washers for it. I spoke to my local dealer and a week later, ie today, he phoned to say they were in. The charge free! I Thought I'd had my monies worth out of it! What will it be worth in another 20 years by which time I'll be retired.....wonder if the reel will be still going strong?

    Rod/reel combos

But on this sort of budget I don't think you could ask for much more! If there wasa bit more money in the kitty then I'm sure with a bit of shopping around a decent rod/reel combo would be forth coming. Like most things in life it all boils down ti ard cash.

    Rod/reel combos

The limiting factor is your budget. If you want to stick within your budget then I'd look at one of the online tackle dealers. www.anglinguk.net do a lot of the Ron Thompson deals. Look at the fireweave carbon ronds mathed with the Okuma classic reels. You shoild be within your budget easily and get a decent rod/reel combo. The rods ain't that bad. Nice "tippy" action but with good lifting power in the mid section. Okuma classic is an underated reel. A lot of people dismiss them tho they are capable little reels for the money and take a fair amount of abuse. Another dealer that supplies decent budget combos is Glasgow Angling Cntr. Don't know if they have a web site but going by a catalouge that came with one of the mags they can also do the RT/Okuma combos at competitive prices. Or as other people have said, go second hand.

    F.A.O Dan

I don't have that luxury. If I want to use mine in the winter months its a 120 mile drag to my chosen boating/fishing area.....though the Goodwins are looking good at the mo! In the summer its up on the frome so not a prob. Would be interested in having a look at the piccy's tho.
  11. Is it worth me dragging the little boat down and wasting a sunday if the weathers ok. Can't use the "proper" boat due to outdrive issues that showed themselves last sunday. I doubt there'll be much about but I'm going a bit stir crazy being couped up in the house. Can't even take the course tackle out as the lakes I fish are frozen over!

    VHF radio

If you can pick up Taxies on your VHF then theres someting def wrong , If you've connected the plug correctly and changed nothing else then all should be ok. Just make sure theres no dry joints where you've soldered the centre core of the coax into the plug. Do you have a handheld VHF you could do a quick check with. Not strictly legal but.......

Dan, its just that it has a close resemblance to my Tremlett. Tho clearly its not a Tremlett as theres no massive reverse chines. About the same size too same sort of layout etc. Vilevo huh! good luck I ended up totaaly rebuilding mine. If you see Two Ladies, my boat, flying about the Poole area give me a shout. I'd like to have a look at yours......so to speak!

    Multi meter

I went to the boat today with the intension of pulling it round to the house for a once over before going out over the weekend. I didn't even get to pull it out. Even with the Rangey with the diff locks on I still couldn't get any traction. No fishing for me this weekend then!

    Multi meter

Ah right. I know someoneelse thats got that set up. The prob is more than likely, I'll put money on it, in the plug that goes into the trailer board. Probably coroded like like crazy. I'd bin that set up and use a cable you can take off the trailer.

    Multi meter

As Duncan said, but for what your trying to do I would have just gone for a simple circuit tester from you local car spares place. It'll be easier to use as the ground side has a crocodile clip leaving one hand free. What is also slightly baffling is that the trailerboard is part of the trailer? Is your trailer a european/uk spec or an american import? Yank trailers are notoriously bad when it comes to electrics. Dunking them in the water when launching probably doesn't help.

    Hydrofoils

In the past on outboard powered boats I've had I found Doelfins to be the best. They actually did what it said on the packet! If you've not got power trim then you might find that the pin in the transom bracket needs moving by a setting either way. If you've power trim then you'll find it'll be a lot more responsive. As always boat loading still influences the way the boat handles. I'm even considering fitting them to my outdrive on my Tremlett, but having a volvo drive is making things a bit more difficult.
  20. Exactly the same regulations that govern the tyres on your car. ie 1.6mm min tread depth. Can't mic crossply's and radials on the same axle
  21. Same thing. Also called a Z drive by a few old yanks.
  22. Without being detrimental to your wifes new car. The Rav is more of a fashion fad than a 4x4. The system it uses for "4 wheel" drive is a viscous coupling on the gearbox. Basically the same as the old sierra xr4x4. It'll never really perform off road as its got independent suspension all round which gives less ground clearance than live axles. For true 4x4 you need a proper cntr diff that is lockable. Even then if you cross axle it( diagonally oposite wheels spinning) you'll loose drive. I've fitted locking diffs to both axles on the Range Rover. Together with the cntr diff locked its never failed to pull the boat out. Even at low spring tide at Redcliffe farm with the trailer off the slip in the mud. When its out of the warranty period you could tighten the viscous coupling to stop it slipping too much when on sand etc.
  23. Hello chaps, not posted here before. Reading this thread with interest. I tow my Tremlett every weekend. Its all up weight is just over 2250 kgs. Not a prob as I tow with a Range Rover. Last year I renew'd the insurance and flicking thru the policy docs the was a clause that said I had to inform them if I was planning to tow a trailer over 750kgs. I phoned the insurance co and informed them that the trailer was slightly over the 750 kg limit they imposed. So have a look at your insurance policy to make sure thast your covered and theres no clauses you don't know about. Also when looking at your trailer weight re car limits etc, also take into account the permissible train weight set by the manufacturer. Go over the limit on that and your more than likely not be insured. Which is why I use the Rangey for a tug. Intersting point with some of the larger 4x4's is that if you fit a air compresser for air brakes you can go upto 7500 kgs with a draw bar trailer.......which would be fun!
