Rob reacted to Sam in The Results are In- Junior comp 2nd competition
Hi All,
I have just finished sorting through all the results and it took a bit longer this time due to the amount of children involved, which is truly fantastic.
a couple of facts about this competiton:
in total we had 6 different boats 15 juniors and a whopping 19 different species caught between all the juniors, compared to last years results this is turning into a very competitive competition which is great.
the results are as follows:
total species- Curtis driver with 13 species
heaviest fish- Jayden with a conger of 10lb 5oz ( a true chapman now as he keeps telling everyone)
1st best specimen- sophie driver, Mackeral 1lb 5oz 66%
2nd best specimen- Jacob Givans, spotted ray 3lb 3oz 58%
3rd best specimen- dom annear. red Gurnard 10oz 50%
the running total for the competitions so far is as follows:
1st best specimen- Curtis driver, undulate ray, 103%
2nd best specimen- sophie driver, Mackeral 1lb 5oz 66%
3rd best specimen- Jacob Givans, spotted ray 3lb 3oz 58%
well done to everyone and it is all still changeable in the last competition.
I know there is a few lucky Dads who will be away in Norway in the last competition but if you can arrange for someone to bring the kids to the prize giving that would be great, I think it would be very enjoyable for the kids to pick up there prizes in person and play with the other juniors, I know last year they all had fun tearing around my garden
tight lines

Just was going to warn...the boats are three abreast on buoys at Alderney, and the anchorage is allegedly busy.
If anyone is coming over this weekend, suggest you prepare to anchor, with allowance for a 6-7m tide, with all of the best spots potentially taken.
If you get a chance to share a buoy, remember to bring enough rope to attach to the buoy itself, plus bow and stern lines to your neighbour, plus spring lines to prevent surging, and enough fenders for both sides.
Good luck all those that partake

Rob reacted to lofty in New for me.
Today I had a free day so for a change decided to try Christchurch bay in the search for something for the table. Plaice, turbot etc.
Arrived at Steamer a Point carpark(£7all day) and just squeezed under the 2 metre high barrier.
Loaded up and down to the beach before sunrise.
The plan was to drift fish with a spoon and rag and a Portland rig with maccy sliver.
I dropped the sabikis in and within 1 second had two maccy.
Then the sun rise
Pretty quickly realised that drift fishing was going to be problematic.
The seabed along there is weedy, not sandy. It's akin to the solent instead of Poole bay.
Later when I pulled my anchor it was muddy.
The maccys were also fussy
They didn't take feathers, or tinsels, only the sabikis?
During the course of the day I had two dozen, but singles and doubles.
The scad on the other hand came through in schools and I had several full strings.
At anchor I was getting dogs, topelets but mostly junior smoothys taking everything and anything.
I was hoping for a gurnard or something on the rag for my species hunt, but the smoothys dominated.
The sea was most peculiar. According to my tide table it should have been pushing through but there was slack water for several hours. Maybe I'd found the centre of a swirl?
The sea state became mirror calm and with no breath of wind it was like being on a pond.
A school or about a lb fell to a Dexter wedge while looking for a gar.He went back.
Then a maccy fillet was taken and I'd guessed it was an undulate.
It turned out to be a thorny. I had my scales with me and he was 8lb. It surprised me, I'd guessed heavier.
The day was rounded off by a 55cm bass that came home for dinner.
Once again I was surprised by the weight. I'd guessed about 4lb
Turns out it was 2 lb
Got two good fillets out of it though so happy days
It was a good little trip today with 7 species, but I didn't enjoy the weed at all.
Cheers for reading
