    Near Miss.

Hi Jack, Not sure if I've mis-read your post, but it sounds like you untied the anchor rope from the bow post and re-attached it to the stern cleat to pull the anchor out. If so, this is potentially very dangerous. If the anchor is snagged it can pull the stern of the boat under water. This happened to Mark last year when the rope caught around his outboard. The safe method for anchor recovery that we have been taught is to allows leave the anchor rope attached to the bow post. In this way, if the anchor does get snagged, all it will do is pull the bow round, allowing you to ease off the power and try again. Sorry if I've mis-read your post, but it's an apt reminder to everyone, anyway. cheers BF
  2. I'll give it a go, if I remember. BF

  4. Excellent result, Alun. That's got our juices going again. I'm going out tomorrow, but you've got me worried about the bar. BF
  5. Zzippy, Specimen, Karen and I went white water kayaking for the first time last weekend. On the Exe at Tiverton. What a wonderful view...if you like looking at pebbles on the bottom of the river bed!! I spent most of the time upside down. It's a good job I can hold my breath for a long time. Karen, of course, went through every rapid and weir without missing a heartbeat or showing the least hint of tipping over. Bloody show off!! Bob F
  6. I have a Suzuki 70HP 4 stroke on an Alaska 500. It runs as smooth as silk, except at a certain lower rev (~2000 revs I think) when the boat rattles a little. This is just resonance (the engine revs hitting the same resonant frequency of the boat), and nothing to do with a fault or imbalance in the engine. cheers BF
  7. Nothing wrong with the Silva unit...and certainly better than having no backup unit. BF
  8. Nice read Coddy. BF

    Holiday

Hi Reg, Nothing comes immediately to mind. Give us a few days for other members to respond, and if nothing turns up we'll dig a bit deeper. Maybe someone knows who the Charters skippers use? cheers BF
  12. Very nice, Paul. BF
  13. Got my bottle. Haven't tried it yet, though. BF
  14. 144 PBSBAC members. 55 new member this season. BF
  15. Gordon, Any accurate scales will do, whether digital or spring type. Some people are finding the digital type a bit over sensitive for use on a bouncing boat. The reading will be bouncing alot, so club policy is always use the lowest reading when weighing. BF
  16. Thanks for the invites, Tom, and good luck at the show. I'll drop by if I go. Will also drop in for the glass of bubbly on the 28th or 29th. Should be interesting looking around the boats. cheers BF

    Worth A Look?

That's my boy!! I want you and Rach to stay together.
  18. Good start Gordon. If the fuse blowing problem sorted? What size was the Blonde Ray? Sure it wasn't a Spotted Ray? cheers BF

    Bait Pump

How long will the battery supply current to you instruments? A battery that is rated at 90Ah means that it can theoretically supply 90amps of continuous current for 1 hour, or 9 amps for 10 hours. However, in practice, when the battery charge has dropped to 50% it is usually too flat to restart your outboard motor (though it will have enough power to continue supplying sufficient current to your instruments for a couple more hours). So, when trying to calculate how long a battery can last from one charge, use 50% of it

    Worth A Look?

Nice dream Adam, but get back to reality, practicallity and affordabilty. She's too big to tow, you'd need mooring fees, that engine will be a real big gas guzzler, you'd need a minimum of 4 crew to pay the running costs, and the service bills for the engine will be too high. Stick with your 175 plans. BF
  21. ...and there's a type of Iris (flower) called the "Bearded". So, [something]-bearded rockling. Need to work out what "part of large dinosaur" means.
  22. Large stone = Rock molva = Ling So, it's a type of Rockling, but what type...
