We agreed to meet at my dads at 7.30am, but it seemed to go wrong when he wouldn't get outa bed, and we ended up heading out about 9am with my cousen James and his missus Mel, both who had never been boat fishing before, and my dad, who only got out of hospital 4 days ago after a long stint in due to a heart attack and some surgery was always going to be tough, but all in all, a pretty fun day, although mel spent most of it sea sick, whilst my dad slept in the cuddy most of thr trip. With the cramped space, we all stuck to a single rod, and to be honest, i didn't really have my fishing head on as i was just hoping to put the rest on a few fish.
Anyway, maccy a plenty to all, before a quick blast to xray for rays. It's pretty hard going, with small a couple of tope comming to my dad before the dogs arrived. a dozen dogs later, and i land a pb thornie of 14.10 followed by a 9lb smalleyed to james.
A quick chat to paul d on Neo and corky and daz (?) on stargazer before i head in.
Thanks fr boat pics paul, it looks like im going to take off
James is a dedicated carp angler, and between us we took some footage of weighing fish at sea and how to get an accurate reading(ish), and another of the fight, i'l see if i can get him to email me them and i'l post on the video section.
Well done to those who fared better than me today, but it was good to see plenty of boats out today

hmm, will be there in the morning, but im pi$$ed whilst typing this so i hope il be hangoverless in the morning. Anyway, a good party, and only 6 police cars needed to break up fights and make arrests this time (and party was at my mums!!!!). Dom, you should have stuck around, im sure you would have waded right in
Anyway, il be on ch6, bright and early, tight lines all:rolleyes:

who did u get mate?
If i steam pass u whilst your on the ray mark, you couldn't do a pic or two for me of my boat on the plane could u?
-
If I can get crew then I am in.
hmm, take all of mine
-
ok crew sorted, book me in
But dont count on me to catch anything as theres 4 of us on the small boat, il be enjoying no space, one rod only, and 'coz there all beginners and never been boat fishing, il be skipper, anchor monkey, navigator, setting up all tackle, launching, retrieving, lending out gear, unhooking fish, baiting up etc, etc
deep joy
il prob end up chucking the rod in the cuddy instead and seeing if i can get my crew a few fish instead, but book me in anyway, but im not sure if i will actually drop a line.

windguru looks to good 2 be true. 0.3m over 7 seconds
I bet it doesnt stay like that. fingers crossed.
I defo wont be ordering any bait, hopefully find a few maccy instead, although i think they will be hard to find
oh, and i need crew to
but im waiting for someone to get back to me as dom is away.

I should be out on Dat Dam Boat (hang over depending as i plan on getting lashed up sat night
), but if im fragile, it will be more of a jolley than competitive fishing this time. Either out of christchurch for ray and bass, or sowley 'way' for a hound or stinger launching from keyhaven.
Dom as crew (?) if not il be looking for crew (novice or experienced, it doesn't really matter)

tele rods are no good for carping though, and the 4 piece travel rods struggle to fit into a suitcase. So ive opted for 3 long distance carp rods in a monstor tube.
-
16 quid each way if i pre-book, so ive decided to wack a load of kit into a holdel thats within the weight for "sports equipment" and hopefully il get among the carp and cats out there

sorry guys, my son has a footy tournament all day so i will be away supporting him. good luck to those who are out.

Joining the club will be the best

I am off to spain next week and plan to do some carp fishing. I am only taking two rods on the plane, but the problem is trying to get a price from my airline for these. I am going with easyjet, from gatwick to valencia, but there is no contact number on there website and the nly way to get the info is via an online question, but im not getting any answers.
I will be strapping 2 rod tubes together as one tube, and the tubes will be about 6ft long, a width of 8 inches and a diameter of about 4 inches.
has anyone taken rods on a plain, and any idea how much the cost will be?

with the wind kicking up on saturday day/night, my plan were ruined as the sea was to big to take my boat out and thats where a vessel like alfresco gives you an edge, but theres still enough water to find some shelter and easily enough species to still compete as charlie says, with a small boat, u tow her to a different slip. so he right about a small boat versitility cancelling out a large boats range.
Keep conger and huss, but i would say that 40lb as 100% for an eel is a fairly easy target is you are specifically target them, so i would like back the idea of 100% being something like 50lb and i would espect a decent boat, anchored on a decent wreck with plenty of eels on it would get a 100% 40lb specimen fish fairly easily.
I would say the same for one of my favourite species the thick lipped greay mullet(i targeted them in the comp as i thought its a banker for a 100% fish, in tha same way that the alfresco lads banked on a conger or two of 100%+), . a mullet of 4.4lb is a pretty easy target and 100% should be moved to 5lb. If you can target them, the ratio of a 4lb fish is about 3-1 anyway, so thats another that may need looking at. Well, thinking about it, considering that most mullet fishing is actually sight fishing, i pick out the larger ones anyway, and its probably about 1 in 4 fish that i get is under that weight!
But if the format stays the same, just be shrewed about your targets, and do your your homework before hand as it was not by luck that my little boat had two 100% fish.
Anyway, congratulations to Dan again, sticking to his target and getting the reward. Good to see a nipper win it!

At the risk of being controversial, I didn't take part because I didn't believe I had any chance.
probably right there mike, because if you believe u have no chance, you most probably wont as i doubt you will be fishing any where near 100% thinking like that. A bit of preperation and focuss and theres plenty of inshore species that can be targeted.
You have far more chance of a 100% inshore species than a 100% rips cod at the moment.
Be confident in your ability mate as you have a pretty good track record of catching decent fish and im sure you would have done well.
BTW....
I finished 3rd and 4th.....didnt know that was possible

Disaster comp really. Plenty of wind and i watched as the sea blew up infront of me!
We headed for the solent, stingers was the plan and after some great info from Ed and also hearing how old mate matt had 3 the previous night, i felt lucky!
No chance really! Got out there, got smashed all over the place to the waves and hated every second of it.
headed in, changed plan, anchored up in the shallows in keyhaven and had mullet going in seconds! A nice fish of 4.9 (new club record, although i must have broken the origional record about 20 times on the boat over the last couple of years and not relised the record was so low). was landed by me after a couple of minutes before we go back out, tucked out of the way, but huge weedballs blew our chances, combined with being chucked about, we head in degected at about midnight.
Day 2, and its looking better. Im out with my son and dad. Get some bait and have a couple of quick bass drifts. Nothing!
Motor out to xray, staright into dogs and bream, before the rod pulls over and holds! A nice scrap and a pb smalleyed ray of 12.4 is in net before we call it a day!
Anyway, i suppose at least the string was pulled and with two 100% specimens landed i shouldn't complain, but it was a very frustrating couple of days and i was hoping for more. Roll on next time!
