  3. Hi Geoff, My boat is insured through Cheers Insurance Brokers, and with Royal and Sun Alliance. www.cheersinsurance.com Tel. 02089435333 I phoned around and got various prices but these beat everyone else by a mile. When I wanted to upgrade the Insurance to include having the boat on a drying mooring within a boatyard, there was no extra charge, it was just placed on my policy document. I can highly recommend them although I have not yet had to make a claim (long may that continue). Hope this helps, Eddie.
  4. Hi All, I have had no response from Supermotodaz regarding the fishfinder outfit, so I will make it accessible to anybody who may be interested. I will also be offering it on the IAC list at the same time. Anybody interested, please contact me before Sunday Noon as if no takers I shall list it on Ebay in the afternoon. Eddie.
  5. I regularly wear a flotation suit in the winter, and only wear a lifejacket when I feel the situation warrants it. In the summer, I can have as little as a tee shirt and shorts on with deck shoes, but as it would be too hot to wear a flotation suit in the summer I would be more inclined to wear my lifejacket if I felt I needed it. So once again I suppose it boils down to common sense. Eddie
  6. H Adam, That seems similar to what I am intending using mine for. I think it is important to have balanced outfits, both for fun and for the fishes well being, those that are not being kept for the pot and are being returned, they at least have a chance if theyre not winched up too quickly. Regards, Eddie
  7. Hi Alun, I at present have a 6500 c3 cs sports mag that I use with 10lb braid on 12lb uglystick, and a 7000 c4 ld that I use on my 20lb class rod. I have just ordered a TLD 15 and TLD 20 that I will use on 30lb and 50lb class outfits respectively. I only expect to use the TLD 20 for Sharking so it will not get a lot of use but I think I will use the TLD 15 a lot for conger and wrecking. I am in the process of fineing down my tackle and keeping it more appropriate to my angling needs at present (all beach stuff either sold or up for sale). Regards, Eddie.
  8. I will have a Lowrance X88DF fishfinder for sale in the next couple of weeks. about 8 months old, in boxed, excellant condition and full working order with all cables, fittings and manual with a dual frequency transon mount transducer. You can see current price and spec here :- http://website.lineone.net/~phiadmarine/x88df.htm Reason for selling, I have just purchased an X136DF which is NMEA 2000 compatible to go with my Globalmap 3300C chartplotter. Reason for the 2 week delay prior to selling, have to wait for the next set of spring tides to enable removal of current transducer and speed log. Price wanted for all,
  9. I have to ammend the offer of the Lowrance X88DF fishfinder for sale in the next couple of weeks. about 8 months old, in boxed, excellant condition and full working order with all cables, fittings and manual with a dual frequency transon mount transducer. 10. Hi Alan, I am very used to using a router, one of my other hobbies is woodworking and I have 3 different routers. If I was thinking doing the windows I think I would do the rough cut on my bandsaw with a fine blade first, although I have a good jigsaw the finished cut would probably be better with less risk of scratching the material. But I have to say your finished job looks excellant in the photos. Eddie.
  11. I have discovered the difference between the two reels, it would appear that the TLD 15 has a lever drag and the TLD 15/30 has a star drag so it would seem that LD in TLD obviously does not stand for anything to do with Lever Drag. Eddie.
  12. The windows look very clear now. How long did it take altogether, and how difficult was the cutting of the perspex? Eddie
  13. Hi All, I have a couple of ABU Reels that I have surplus to requirements, they are Ambassadeur 10000CL never used, mint boxed, no line. Ambassadeur 5500 C3 CT Mag Elite never used, mint boxed line loaded. If anyone is interested I would like
  14. Hi All, Trying to find out the differences between the Shimano TLD 15 lever drag reel and TLD 15/30 lever drag reel, does anyone know the differences, if any please? Eddie.
  15. Hi Adam, I have sold many items on ebay, but I thought I would offer it to supermotobaz first as he is just starting to fit his boat out and this is a great spec machine at the price. I was going to put it on the for sale list later when I had removed the bits from my boat, but I made this offer now so as to give him the chance prior to him buying something else. I have a friend who works for a distributor in marine electronics, so am frequently being offered gear to test/buy so there may well be a few more bargains to be had in the future. Eddie
  16. Hi Gary, Welcome to the forum, I have only recently made the long trek across from the IAC myself. Eddie.
  17. Hi, I am hoping this is not against any forum rules, but I will have a Lowrance X88DF fishfinder for sale in the next couple of weeks. about 8 months old, in boxed, excellant condition and full working order with all cables, fittings and manual with 2 dual frequency transon mount transducers (1 brand new and one currently on the boat) . You can see current price and spec here :- http://website.lineone.net/~phiadmarine/x88df.htm Reason for selling, I have just purchased an X136DF which is NMEA 2000 compatible to go with my Globalmap 3300C chartplotter. The reason for the extra transducer is that I have a portable kit that will allow me to use the fishfinder on a boat without having to install it. And the reason for selling the extra transducer, not compatible with the new fishfinder. Reason for the 2 week delay prior to selling, have to wait for the next set of spring tides to enable removal of current transducer and speed log. Price wanted for all,
  18. Hi Grant, Welcome to the forum. enjoy Eddie
  19. Hi Steve, Welcome, Only recently a member myself, some interesting reading on the forum, and some good points raised/discussed. There are a few IAC members who are also members of the forum so you will see some familiar names. Eddie

Hi Adam, I'm surprised they did not suggest only going out with a buddy boat just in case, then if you get into trouble you can all jump into the other boat, of course first making sure that you are not exceeding the capacity of said boat, therefore you must go out in pairs of Warriors but with no more than 2 persons aboard each so as not to exceed the capacity of 4 persons if one boat gets into trouble. There has to be a modicum of common sense involved, yes, a radar reflector would be good, but in a warrior/explorer size boat the little things they sell as reflectors do not show well on radar, the reason for my having Radar on Avin Alaf is not so much for my benefit for navigating in fog as to send out an active radar signal so as the larger traffic in the channel know I am there. An epirb again would be good but the disproportionate cost of the 406Mhz models make them out of the reach of the normal person, and the 121.5Mhz versions which are cheaper are being faded out are not that great. Better that the money is spent on a DSC radio and learn how to use it, then if something happens, hope you can stay with the boat. I would agree that it is probably a good idea to have some form of MOB recovery equipment, but a liferaft/inflatable dingy? where the hell are you going to store or even better how are you going to deploy one in a 16ft boat. The boat is supposed to be unsinkable anyway if it meetes EU standards, so if you have time to inflate/deploy the liferaft you may as well stay with your boat. If your boat is hit by another vessel, you probably won't have time to inflate or deploy the bloody thing anyway. In a perfect world we would have all of these items, along with many others in our 65ft ex-trawler which we only use for fishing in local esturies and within 100 yards of the shore so as not to put ourselves in any danger. I believe that if you had everything on the above lists and all the relevant qualifications, there would still be something to add that you could have or something that could be upgraded. As i said earlier, it is all about common sense and how safe you feel. I believe that I am safer fishing around the Eddystone or Hands Deep reefs (both about 14 miles offshore) than I am fishing in the waters a couple of miles offshore. This is due to the number of charter and private boats in these areas who would be quick to offer help if any was required, where if in trouble fishing in a less populated area it may be some time before any help would arrive. Still every input you receive is food for thought, and if you feel you need something suggested then the visit was not in vain. Eddie.
  21. Hi Charlie, I do use the Mapsend software from Magellan to upload and download my marks to and from the PC, then whilst on the boat I take the waypoints from the handheld and input the coordinates into the two chartplotters as needed. Well, they have been promising Egnos now for 2 years, I don't think I will hold my breath until they get it sorted out. The colour screen on the 3300c is excellant, and knocks spots off of my previous colour chartplotter (Garmin 176C), fully visible under all lighting conditions and the controls are easy to use. The XL3 Gold chip is excellant although I may never use the Ireland and/or Western England Maps, although the English Channel map will get a battering, but as I was getting it for the cost of the local map I could not refuse. Eddie.
  22. Hi, You have it the wrong way around i'm afraid, the Garmin is older than the Lowrance. I have a friend who works in the industry and he got me the Lowrance 3300 Colour, with the latest Navionics XL3 gold chip for
  23. Hi All, Many thanks for your welcomes and I hope I will be able to make some worthwhile contributions to the forum. For your information, I am 45 years old and live in Plymouth, I have an Explorer Elite boat called "Avin Alaf" with a 50HP Honda and 6HP 4Stroke Yamaha Aux. The boat is fitted with a Furuno 1621Mk2 Radar, Garmin GPSMAP180 Chartplotter with DGPS module fitted, Lowrance LMS3300C Chartplotter, Lowrance X136DF Fishfinder and Simrad RD68 DSC VHF Radio. The boat is usually kept on a drying mooring in a local boatyard which limits access during one and a half hours either side of low water. Thanks to the Codfather for the personal welcome, how are you Dave? not talked Nicole into joining this forum yet? mind I think some of your banter may be best left where it is at the present Regards, Eddie.
