Bumoles! Andy I can't find the ceanothus wood, but I have found a 1.5 meter length of cherry wood and another length of Apple . both are about 10 years old and bone dry cured but no rot at all. They are yours if you like as my wood turning days are over. Mad Mike

  8. Paul has got it spot on. As an alternate to a final wax added coat one can cover the last coat with a polythene bin bag opened out and gently placed over the sticky semi set gell coat so as to exclude all air, then tape it down with masking tape on the none affected area outside the repair. When the gell coat has dried hard the polythene comes away easily as there is nothing that sticks to polythene. Mad Mike

Justa thought. I have some Ceanothus wood (blue flowered shrub/tree) it is as heavy as heck and very dense. The bits I have are well dried now, about 2years old and been kept in the dry. If your interested I can see if I can find them in my workshop. Cost? I'll give you more than enough for two, can I have one please? Mad Mike

He said they took no prisoners! But mind you he was a lippy 17 yera old at the time. Mad Mike

  18. Well done you!! It's so nice to hear of a fish filled day, and quality fish too. By the way that congar was definately giving you the 'evil eye' Mad Mike
  19. I can tell it was an entirely independant none promotional unbiased test. Made with an intelligent truth seeking audience in mind. God bless America Made a couple of years ago too by the look of the colour of the engines. I found it really amusing thanks Paul Mad but happy Mike
  20. D'you know that's exactly what the T/A training told him. Well actually I expect you did know . He was devistated when after having loads of specialist look hat him he had to leave because of all things flat feet! Mad Mike
  21. Adam sums it up, but to add details several have had to be replaced the hull falures have been that bad. We were going to buy one but after hearing several bad reports (also engine quality issues on the deisel version) we looked again at the market, Avor, Benatau, Rodman, and Jeanneau. We ended up buying a Jeanneau 625 which has a far higher quality for a slightly larger boat, as you will see for yourself if you go and look. Pricewise I will not discuss figures but suffice it to say the deal we got was very competative compared to the Quicksilver and for a far far better boat. I would also point out that this is a totally unbiased opinion bearing in mind that the Poole Jeanneau dealer is a club member. We did try to source a boat at a better deal else where but we were totally satisfied by buying localy. Mad Mike
  22. Oh dear me and I never knew!!! The point is that the air taken in for combustion has bugger all to do with the internal corrosion of coolant waterways! This whole topic is now in the realms of those that want to score points based on not a lot of knowledge of the subject. So include me out. Madder than usual Mike
  23. Well thousands of inboard petrol & diesels do. What I do think is a pertinant point is the newness of the technology as it was 5 years or so ago, actualy 25 years if you count the little 7.5 Honda O/B introduced in the 70's. For some reason the manufacturers of 4 strokes produced castings that were prone to cold spots/hot spots/ and impingement corrosion. It was these castings that caused the problems not that the engines were 4 strokes. High humidity makes all ICE more efficient and air pre filtering removes any salt content. Having said that look at the air intake of any old Seagull! No filter and an updraft carb set about 12" up from the water. Some of these engines are still going at 50 years old! Mad Mie
  24. I cant see how corrosion would be any more prevalent in a 4 stroke V's a 2 stroke. Certainly there could be a differance in the alloys used by one manufacturer against that of another and I believe that in the name of efficiency and cost castings may be thinner than before. But high corrosion purely because an engine is a 4 stroke???? Mad Mike
  25. Quote...Interestingly the percertage is the same for professionals etc but, critically, they are still making decisions where others are being led by circumstances as things start to escalate................ Interesting Duncan. When my lad went on the T.A. Officer potential course they stressed the importance of making decision rather than wringing ones hands and doing nothing. Someone famous (?) once said about decision making "if you are only 51% right in your decision making your ahead of the game" Is this why I chose the wrong place to fish 49% of the time ? Mad Mike
