Quote...I see anti - foul doesn't apply to some of the reply's though! What ever does he mean? Mad Mike

Quote......only problem is that they are a pain for my naked knees. As Kam so rightly says the 'sand' option albeit a good none slip is murder on bare flesh. I was hoping to get something that had a sorta suede finish. I wonder if ground up Hushpuppies would work? Mad Mike

I need to do about 1 Sq Meter of deck quickly and cheaply with some none slip deck paint. The thought occured to me that some one may have the dregs of a tin gathering dust somewhere, if so I will be happy to pay a pitance for it Colour realy doesn't matter but light blue would be nice... Mad Mike

Quote.....We started to get bites almost immeadiatly but could not connect with anything, it seemed like bream bites but nothing would get them to grap the hook! Yes Dave they are bream. I can't remember exactly which bouy you were on but the best one along those trots is the very first one (the one they moor Costelo the Brownsea ferry on) There are a few one and a half pound bream amongst the thousand tiddlers and some nice wrass when the tide is slow or still. We chugged by all very legal at 10kts and went to a mark I know of to fish for Bass in the harbour (and no it is not in the nursery area...Just) and we had a brilliant day with about 30 bass all around the 2 to 3 lb mark. We fish very very light free lining ragworm way back beyond the boat into a tiny tide rip between sand bars. As there is only a few feet of water and a good current it is lively fishing as the fish realy fight hard. All but 2 were put back safely and the 2 we kept were delish' Mad Mike

With out a doubt the best person to service your O/B at a sensible price is Sam Tricket (07810 561520) . He has a mobile workshop and does contract work round this (Poole) area for most of the big O/B suppliers and Boatstart. Tell him that his mate Sean's fiance's, uncle Mike sent you and the odds are he'll charge you at trade rates. Mad Mike

Oh I see.... A blow job every two weeks? That's better than average I'd say Mad Mike

Kam's advice is spot on. Weed fouling will be low anyway in the winter months. Antifoul has absolutly no waterproofing qualities at all and is no protection against osmosis. Osmosis occurs because of either of two factors ... On a new boat hull that has not had sufficent cureing time before being put in the water, therefore leaving minute pockets of liquid styrene which has a lower density than salt water thus creating the physico/chemical process called osmosis. or A GRP hull left in salt water but having fresh water laying in the bilges for a long length of time. Bl00dy expensive though, I will be suprised if it fetches that much. Mind you if a new 520 package comes to
-
I wonder if that rule would apply over here? Round Acapulco they have man made rafts floating above bloody great sea anchors to hold them in an area. The rafts accumulate weed and sea life and then the bigger fish. We used to troll the muppets as near as we could to them and get a strike most passes. Mad Mike

I thought that moving the trim tab on the engine was only to stop steering drag, i may be wrong please correct me if i am Also mercury quotes moving the tab the other way round, see picture. Simon L Oh gawd here we go again Anyone want to start? Mad Mike
-
HEhe! Last year we had a HUGE thread on this subject, cos some of these little trim tabs pivot on the front (leading edge) and some from the middle and some from the trailing edge, and to make matters worse it's different if you visualise looking from the leading edge backwards or from the trailing edge forwards So .... Looking forwards standing behind the O/B and talking about the trailing (back edge) of the trim tab ......... Moveing the TRAILING edge to the RIGHT will induce a right turn at the bow. Moving the trailing edge to the LEFT will induce a left turn at the bow. A small change each time is best. Another thought........ Some manufacturers make these little tabs act as the scrificial anode making them out of a Zinc alloy. If the motor is left immersed in sea water or is quite old then the thing may have desolved away to nowt?? Mad Mike
-
Torque steering or rather the removal of the torque effect when you throttle down is probably the culprit. You could try moving the little vertical tab sticking down from the underside of the cavitation plate to compensate for it, but it is a question of trial and error to get it right. Mad Mike

Quote.........sorry you lost the big one Alun but fishing for blondes with a 27lb trace would seem like a recipe for trusting in fate to me You are right of course, however last Saturday whilst fishing off Swanage we were getting the odd ray and LSD on the heavy rods but also some hard fighting bream on light tackle (Shimano light carbon rod and Shimano fixed spool with 12lb braid and 8lb mono trace). Whilst I took a pasty break I had left the line in suspecting that the ragworm had been stripped and that all was left was the squid strip. I had seen the rod nod a couple of times, and as I finished eating, I picked up the rod and wallop! Summat was thumping away on the line, well after a slow pumping fight I landed a Thorny of about 8lb which was just lip hooked. Certainly not the baest way to approach ray fishing Mad Mike

I checked at my local Nick but some bugger had stolen all the UV pens............ Mad Mike

Hehehehe The cunning plan worked then Mike A tip with the thornback.......... Cut the wings off and keep them in a cool place (fridge) for a couple of days. They will exude the natural ammonia in their flesh as a slimy liquid. Wash well and skin. They are now ready to cook and the flesh will be sweet and most un-fishlike to the pallet. The two days of rest is vital to remove the rather unpleasant ammonia after tast of the fresh fish. Mad Mike PS I bet you remember that spot now! See you out there

I too agree with Alun, I go fishing for the pleasure of being out on the water, and the joy of catching fish. I get just as much satisfaction from seeing others on the boat catching as I do from my own fishing. IMO 'competition' would detract from my enjoyment. Having said that I still think the club is well worth being involved with as sharing anything doubles the overall enjoyment, the help, advice and humour are second to none and it's nice to know that there is usualy some one to wave to or hail whilst out on the wild blue yonder. Mad Mike

A sobering thought now you are past 30.... There are more people in the world younger than you than older than you now Enjoy Mad Mike

I'll buy that Dave, thank you for the explination. I'll solder on regardless then Mad Mike
-
Correct IMHO Paul, I'm not challenging this answer but I am wondering why a soldered connection isn't better. Surely it must be less suseptible to that sorta verdigris that causes simple mechanical contacts to fail? There must be something else that gives crimps the advantage? Mad Mike

I wonder what all this "What's my top speed" stuff is all about? IMHO and at the risk of some taking offence it all seems a bit over the top. If one was talking about motor cars then even then one seemingly identical car could easily have an edge of 1 0r 2 miles an hour on another vehicle. Atmospheric air pressure, humidity and another half dozen factors would affect the outcome. But to make the discussion even more fatuous, we are sugesting that we make speed comparisons on water. Not just any water mind but the sea, with all of it's variations of wind, tide, and waves. Is one questioning speed through the water? or speed over the bottom? The two could vary wildly! Do you want sustained speed for a given time? If so what is the given time? Or perhaps a average speed over a given distance and then course reversed to give a total average? All these features would alter the top speed of any tested boat. For goodness sake what does it matter what someones imagined top speed is today! 'Cos tomorrow it could be slower or faster........ Mad Mike PS my car's faster than yours Nananaanaa

Harry don't worry mate, by that time of day Duncan would be seeing double anyway. Some folk get sea mist, 'ol Dunc gets alcoholic haze Mad Mike

Oh unbeliever You passed by after we had had a couple of nice fish (for the harbour anyway) and the tide had just died from top to second high. It's amazing how the current can switch the fish on and off like that. A move to another highly secret location as the full ebb started proved successful. I will be publishing the 'Highly Secret Location' in a future issue of Intestines Today together with my editorial 'Stick it to da Ragworm My Way, Innit' Mad Mike

Oh I am sorry I missed you Sam, I had my eye on that white and yellow ScoobyDoo summat or other being steered (erratically) by a 14 year old kid with his dad yelling in his ear We saw the Grey Funnel line leaving through the Haven all very proper and Bristol fashion. I wished I would have had my red ensign flying 'cos I would have dipped it in honour just to be able to see some AB running down aft to dip their ensign by return Mad Mike

Not sure about beautiful, but I keep telling Abbie the rest and she simply rolls her eyes at me Ah, but are you rinsing it down with fresh water after use, and lubricating the moving parts regularly? Mad Mike
