  6. Quote..... hand book and it states max 100kg Exactly MAXIMUM 100Kg, not desirable. I stand by what I said. If one can just lift the jocky wheel off the ground then thats about right. However I am not sugesting that one has no or little down weight on the tow hitch am I? Mad Mike
  7. Boats steer from the stern. i.e. It's the end that starts the steering effect, if the stern moves to the left the bow moves to the right and visa versa. So in your case (veiwed standing behind the boat/rudder/o/b ) turning the trim tab so the leading edge went to the right would make the stern of the boat move to the right and thus the bow to the left. The bow of a boat under way always wants to go straight ahead, it's the movement of the stern from side to side as directed by the helm that makes the boat alter course. Mad Mike
  8. Well my advice is the polar opposite of Adams! I have been reading your comments on how you expect to use the boat etc. IMO the phrase 'and a few dozen congers later it in bust' probably does not accurately describe the type of stress that many fair weather anglers would put their gear to. For the record I am an unashamed fair weather fisherman! A low cost reel from Fladen will certainly land a few congers and if after catching two or three you feel that you are hooked on heavy duty fishing then that is the time to lash out the cash. Rod wise there are many s/h rods and low cost rods on ebay which will be fine to start out with and there is no need to spend more than
  9. Re nose weight ......... taken from an advert for a weighing device for trailers....Noseweight GaugeTo make sure the nose weight of a trailer to be towed is correct; measures from 0 - 80 kgs. RAC advice on nose weight.........If possible, put heavier items in the car and larger lighter items in the trailer. Consult your trailer and car handbooks to establish the correct "nose weight" for your trailer. Most cars state 50kgs to 75kgs. I have no idea where members are getting the advice that nose weight needs to be in the range of 75kg to 100kg this is at the top end grossly excessive. !00kg is 220lbs! = to 4 X old fashioned 56lb of bagged cement on the jocky wheel. Dangerous! Very dangerous. As a usefull rule of thumb guide, if you can just lift the jocky wheel up off the ground then you have the correct nose weight. Next towing limits....... (first of all I am talking 'real world' and not the law as she is writ, so some of what I am going to say is not within the letter of the law) All up trailer weight has begger all to do with pull effort (expressed in Kg/Lbs) and therefore the power of a car to PULL a trailer does not have to be great at all. For instance one can buy tiny little 12v electric dollies that are used to move large boats and trailers. Traction is only a consideration when the surface being traversed is unsuitable and/or slippery, Therefore almost all slips within 30 miles of B'mth will be ok for use with a normal car. How you can change the tow hitch weight......... An excessive or inadequate tow hitch weight is almost always due to the positioning of the boat in relation to the trailer axle or the axle in relation to the trailers length or a combination of both. The expensive way to sort this out would be to have the boat lifted by a boat yard and then adjust the trailer whilst the boat hangs in the air above your head. The free way of doing it is to use ingenuity, a trolly jack and lots of lumps of large sectioned wood.......... I have all 3 of these and have done the exercise before several times. Give me a shout if you want and we can do it in a morning (on a nice day 'cos I am picky about when I go out ) Mad Mike

  11. Duncan is right IMO. Another case of all torque and no action Prop steer can be an advantage when manouvering slowly in tight spaces as it will kick the stern in or out without much forward motion, but it is a real problem if you suffer it at speed. If tay the prop rotates clockwise when viewed standing behind the boat, it will walk the Stern to the right thus making the boat steer to the left. A round bilged boat particularly one with a slight taper running aft (transom width smaller than midships width will be most susceptible). Some engine manufacture trim tabs with a larger surface area than the standard ones to help with torque problems. Mad Mike

Actualy it was a neat site, particularly for me as I suffer from mild Aspergers Syndrome. To me words have very exact meanings and I treat them as doing so, that is untill I get my head to accept that for instance someone saying "He's 'always' saying it's cold" does not mean that someones only words are "It's cold". A bit of a pressure intellectually for me as my first reaction would be to snap "Don't be stupid he must say other things as well". But like I was trying to control a stutter I have to breath in and force myself to accept the generalisation. Mind you there is an upside to Aspergers, very analytical, believe it or not latteral thinking and I am told high intelligence, although I might have missed out on the last bit. Mad Mike

  23. Best plan is not to take the falling over liquid Mike then the landing doesn't matter. Coddy You do sometimes wonder how much some people have had Last year at Cobbs, totaly blocking the whole slip were two blinged up chavs accompanied by their trophy wives all involved in launching some 25ft gin palace off a huge 4 wheeled trailer with a power winch and cocktail bar. Any way they were backed up to the water and the huge Toyota earthmover with blacked out windows had it's exhaust 2ft underwater burbling away. The two guys were heaving like mad at the bow trying to push the boat off the trailer and the women were standing on the side of the slip looking on. Suddenly the boat lurched and slid backwards into the water quite spectacularly and continued on backwards towards the finger berths opposite. Mark my fishing partner said quietly to one of the blokes "You should have had a rope to hold the boat mate". "Oh very f**ing funny" said the bloke looking at the boat then his mate who was looking at him with a blank look. One of them hollered to the trophy wives "Well stop the f**ing thing then" as they both surged into the deep after the retreating boat. One of the wives dropped her mobile phone in the water as she tried to get aboard the drifting boat as it gently touched the side of the slip. We had to ask them to move the Toyota and trailer so we could get out BEFORE they carried on shuffling around chest deep in the water trying to find the phone. They did it quite grudgingly, getting the car seat wet because both wives said "We're too p****d to drive that F**ing thing treacle". As we left having loaded up 'Pride of Morpork' I sugested they tried calling the sunken phones number so they could hear where the ring came from......We never caught their reply. Mad Mike
  24. Don't know about teak, but the oak is fine . The other stuff we should avoid like the plague . T I shall stick the oak and other nice woods in a bucket and give you a shout when I've got a bucket full. Mad Mike
  25. ............does that mean hardwood sawdust Mike? I feel a fish smokin' session comin' on! T Thassa thought Trev', depends on what I have been putting through the Table saw (and planer thicknesser). But now you mention it would you like me to save the hardwood waste? It's teak mostly and a bit of oak. I take it soft wood (pine) is no good as is MDF and other resinbonded stuff. Mad Mike PS I still rate wood dust through a sieve for none slip, one gets a nice suede effect that is not skin striping.
