Wedger
I have a Panasonic toughbook CF-27 which only has a floppy drive. OS is windows XP. 128 RAM but adding a further 128. Can I connect and run an external optical drive such as Sony 24x Int DVDRWRAM SATA Black L/S (Misco sell them) Edited March 2, 2010 by Wedger
Paul D
I am pretty sure they do not have a SATA connector ( they are around 7 years old I believe ) so the drive you mention will NOT work You could use the USB port to add a USB external drive I think but then it is probably not USB2 so will be slower. Wedger
the sony SATA drive is available to me so could I just use a SATA to USB adaptor like I don't mind slow, as it is just for loading programs that come on laser disc. I just need it to work!............. ??? Edited March 2, 2010 by Wedger
Jim
Or get someone to copy them onto a USB memory stick.
djredrupp
Could you not download said programmes from the internet, and if you already have disc copies of them, enter your authentic serial number? That would eliminate the need for a CD drive, adaptors, or transferring to usb! Nowadays you can get about 90% of programmes online, such as fully working Operating systems (if you know the right place to look )
Bob F
I've used a SATA to USB converter in the past and it worked well. I used it for transferring data from a SATA Hard Disk drive.

Wedger
After a bit more research & thought the usb stick is by far the berst option as I know these work. My computerised house brick has only got the older USB1 so not really worth going to an optical drive. Sent it back for a refund.
