Paul J
Had a great time in Cape Cod fishing for Striped Bass and Bluefish on the fly and plugging rods. The majority of this was from shore but the natives were so friendly we even blagged a couple of boat trips. We worked very hard fishing at dawn (3:30am) and again at dusk until late so sleep was minimal. It paid off with double figure Striped Bass and Bluefish to 9lbs - more info later, heres a few pics
charlieannear
Good work PJ! They obviously have a good stamp of fish over there- anything to do with the conservation measures that they have had in the past?
TomBettle
Nice one PJ, the stuff of angling dreams (at least for me). Cracking fishing! Which fight harder, Bluefish or Stripey

Paul J
Tom, without doubt pound for pound it's the bluefish, i was warned beforehand but nothing prepares you for how aggressive these things are. I was suprised and delighted at the mayhem they cause, slashing at everything they see, going airborne, tall walking and generally putting up a real scrap. Nasty buggers though, they can have your finger off if your not careful I will get get a report up soon as i've recovered PJ

I imagine on fly or a light lure rod they are something else. Like a Bass on steroids with very sharp teeth!
Paul J
Heres an example of what the Bluefish are capable of: You really needed to be awake as after catching lots of Bass it's real easy to put your thumb in its mouth by mistake! that eye looks at you with real evil intent, still wish we had them here though PJ

Mike Fox
Great fishing Paul and excellent pictures! You can get Bluefish in the Canaries too. Took a light telescopic rod over to Fuerteventura a few years ago, and despite being smashed up several times, managed to land the smallest I had hooked of 3-4lb. I'd agree with the aggression, they hit most things chucked at them. A local fish restaurant on the beach cooked it for us all, after a little negotiation, and it was grilled in a casing of rock salt. I posted the recipe a few years ago, which works superbly for bass too. The best day of that holiday! Mike
