Help please on way to Weymouth my fuel gauge stopped working i have not had chance to look at it only to check connection to gauge and sender all seem tight and clean.

How is the sender held into the tank?

Can you access the tank Craig?

Could be a number if things. Checking the earth / ground isnt a bad idea. They are usually held in but a gasket and circular' manifold' type arrangement - basically a the sender has a circular tope with numerous machine screws that go through a rubber gasket and into a backing plate. Some may just self tap into the tank.

Often boat builders use a basic swing arm type unit that has a flat on one end - this floats on top of the fuel and creates a resistance on the sender. These can get gunked up easily and stop sending.

The one we have on JV uses a better magnetic sliding collar arrangement.

Getting access to the sender and a multimeter should find the problem.

Ring me if you need more help.

If you have to replace the sender try WEMA in Broadstone. this too is the magnetic floating collar type. Super bit of kit!

Just like to thank Martin and Dave for their input however I have been trying to ring all day at WEMA Broadstone but no one will answer the phone. mad.gifmad.gif

So I have found a company which is listed below a guy named Ian Bateman who said that the180mm would be the American version as UK are175mm but he would make me one and leave it at Cobbs for me to collect for this weekend and not only that, but they were the cheapest quote I got. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif What service is that?

Just a short note to clear up any confusion about WEMA

Wema did have a branch at Broadstone but have just recently moved to Hamworthy, unfortunately the telephone situation has not been sorted that why Gas ( hope your not a Rovers fan !! ) got a ringing tone on the old number.

The correct number for the Poole branch is 01202 929346

As far as sender are concerned there are two main types

Ian thank you for that input but as post reads I have sourced a new sender and I am very happy with the Bateman brothers help and very prompt service.

Thanks again
