Adam F
Anyone know of any good rates or places for Antifoul at the moment before I go and buy it for full mark up at Force 4? I'll need 2.5L of fast crusing or similar and a small tin of TriLux for the leg. Cheers Adam
Neal
Adam, try Quay West Chandlers just behind the marina where you keep the boat. Pete will usually offer some kind of deal to the PBSBAC members - plus he has a wide range of products Neal
Rob
If you keep her below 8knots this seems cheap: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Painting+D...ing/d150/sd3261 But that isn't going to happen!
Mike Fox
8 knots eh? Mike
Coddy
Adam I would recommend these, Jotun, web site here http://www.shepherdmarine.com/index.php I used the 36 month version on Lady C in May this year including the trim tabs and it showed no signs of wearing away. Many of the commercial boys use this as well as "proper" ships/tankers etc. Good price as well Dave

Adam F
OK Thanks guys. I'm wondering why Jotun sell a product for less than 50 quid that claims to protect for 3 years, yet Blakes and International which Ive used before are over
great white
Jotan is a good hard antifoul but builds up in hard layers and eventually starts to come off in chunks Dave were you using three year antifoul before? Not wanting to be rude but if you were with all that growth last year, its not much of an advert mate. Adam We have done extensive tests on the Club boats [we have 14] over the years and every time we think we have it sussed they change the formula again Recently we have found seajet to be good, not as dear as Blakes or International Pete at Quay West is a good start point Charlie
Rob
Paint her in 4 parts with different types - it's the only way you will find out for sure - then going forward you will know! Assuming you can get it in smaller 1 litre \ 750ml tins. Rob
great white
Pretty much what we did Rob Painted several boats with differant AF, noted which had what and compared at 3 month haul out intervals Not that much differance, not always dearest that works best But we now go by word of mouth amongst 400 cruising boats that we take out each winter, off course most are yachts and use self erroding. the faster boats use harder I used seajet this year, so theres a hint. and the darker the paint the better it works mines black Charlie Edited August 3, 2010 by great white
Coddy
Hi Charlie The year with all the growth was when I did not anti-foul the hull for 3 months! Thus why I had all the growth and those pictures are now 2.5yrs old!!!!! Since then I used International Uno which I thought was very good but it only lasted 8 months! This I later learnt was a season!! Seems that many people only use their boat for the summer so only need a short life span for anti-foul. After talking to many people, most use the cheapest they can get as in their words it all seems to last about the same time. My problem is that in Holes Bay it is know to be hard fouling plus my mooring is near an underwater electrical cable which I think makes things worse. (just my thoughts) Heard only good things about Jotun so thought I would give it a try, wont know now as the boat has gone. Dave
Adam F
Alun very kindly helped out today with the sh%te task that is re-antifouling.... To be fair JV wasnt that bad, the marina staff had her out and jetwashed and all of my diving and scrubbing over the past few weeks has got her nearly back to the primer. A quick scrub with a brillo and a wash and we were ready to go. I went with Seajet in Navy Blue in the end from Pete at Quay West. The leg was re-done in Volvo grey tri-lux. So after 5 hours of sweating and feeling a bit wobbly from the fumes JV is sat drying on the hard at PBM looking like new! It is a crap job though and she may well end up on the stack and store in 2011. Thanks for all the advice.
Maverick Martin
So after 5 hours of sweating and feeling a bit wobbly from the fumes JV is sat drying on the hard at PBM looking like new! It is a crap job though and she may well end up on the stack and store in 2011. Nice to hear the end story and good on Alun for helping out. Did you mention the club to Pete? and did he offer discount? Re Stack and store, it certainly saves a load of grief with maintenance and saves a bit in fuel but does end those last minute night forays. Everything has to be planned in advance to ensure the boat is in the drink. That said I love it (sort of) on dry stack. Oh you will not enjoy the cost of dry stack compared to swinging mooring Every option in boating has its pluses and minuses Martin
fisherman1055
I know how you feel Adam i spent 5 hours last weekend antifouling Serenity It is only to pretty up the boat as she is on a dry stack but makes her look tidier. You get a nice cosy feeling when you finish, just like warming up your wetsuit on a cold day. Like martin I like her to be stored out of the water, always safe in a storm and reduces maintenance and anxious nights. Last antifoul 3 years ago.
