ChrisE
After last year's freeze up I promised myself to buy a 12v screen heater for Hilda Maud to plug into the cigar socket so that we can keep the screen free of condensation and (eek) ice. There seem to be a lot of them out there for lorries, etc. Any pros and cons or recommendations? Thanks Chris Edited October 29, 2010 by ChrisE

Tomo
Hi Chris, I got one from Force 4........beware..make sure your output from your cigar socket is rated high enough as it melted mine, the wiring, housing and the plug. The fuse did not blow, as it was, as recomended.. they are not rated for the continual power draw.. I then got a proper 12 volt power plug that could cope with the Amperage that they draw, for the period of time you have them on. Cigar lighters are only rated for short bursts ...as I found out. great white
I use a small 240volt blow heater from shore power for a few minutes before I go out in mid winter. something that trailer boats could do at home while packing the boats However I did buy Wendy a 12volt hair dryer in the summer that was packaged as a demister as well, so I may try that LOL Its something I had been meaning to sort out this year, misted up windows when returning in the dark is a pain Charlie

ChrisE
Apologies for the delay in replyiing, I was away for the weekend (and fishing on Monday, I was probably the only person off the IoW who didn't catch a cod....) and thanks all for the replies. Tony yes I would be interested in seeing your heater. By sheer coincidence I'm coming along to my first meeting on Thursday. I look forward to meeting a few of you there. Is it a 7:30 start?
