Neal
Try Loch Fyne at Canford Cliffs Good food - reasonable - high, prices - depending on what you have! Neal

Paul D
If you like Italian then we always go to La Mamma restaurant on Bridge Street in Christchurch ( only realised 5 years later that they sponsor the buoys on the harbour ! ) It's been there years and I cannot recommend it enough. If you let them know it is a special occasion you will also get a cake / Sparklers or whatever brought out as well. Book though as it is really popular ( esp on Fri / weekend )
Adam F
La Mamma's is good - very old school cliche Italian syle, but good. Seafood is always hard.... Alun J often says the Ship In Distress in Christchurch is good - local seafood landed at Mudeford. Storm in Christchurch is also meant to be good, but like Loch Fyne - a little pretentious and pricey. Personally I prefer the food a little simpler and less fussy and the setting more realistic - if you can find a little inn tucked away in a cove somewhere selling hand dived scallops or seared fillets of line caught dorset bass without charging liked a wounded rhino where you can sit by a fire and relax then to me thats heaven! Let us know where you go!
Sinbad
Mike If you like something a bit more modern, try Vesuvio restaurant on the beach at Durley Chine. its a proper Italian and being on the beach the atmosphere is great for a stroll along the prom afterwards...though I wouldnt recommend going behind the groynes.... They have a website so you can check out the main courses. Regards Paul Though I also say La Mamma is a great busy restaurant - we like this as well but its not 'something special' sorry Edited January 3, 2011 by Sinbad
fisherman1055
Hotel Du Vin in Poole is worth a look food excellent and prices can go as high as you like for a la carte but they have an offer going and will do 2 courses for 14.95 at Lunch and 19:95 at supper mon to thurs buy her a good bottle of wine (PS they are better at cooking than sailing having had to shout instructions to their yacht on Sunday to get their spinnaker going) Or Summer Lodge in Evershot cannot be beaten for service or food quality, wine list is 15mm thick( beware the bottles at

mike02380
many thanks for all the suggestions, I will check out the menus online. My grandad used to take us to la mamma for special accasions when i was a kid, must have started over 25 years ago. haven't been for a couple of years I can be fussy at restaurants, I like things homemade and not shipped in ready done. Les L.
Re the OPs ps crab house cafe is superb.Owner/chef Nigel sources everything locally on the day which a lot of fish restaurants claim to do, but very few actually do. Its not cheap but imho worth every penny

mike02380
just to finish this thread, we had a great meal at pebblebeach last night, only a couple of minor niggles like 1 or 2 bones in the bass dish but the flavours were great, There were 4 of us and we all had something different so we could taste each others, portion size was generous, my girlfriend had lymington crab soup for a starter-I had to finish it and her dessert so bonus for me! back on the diet today
