I know its early but just wondered if any other members would like to buddy up for a spring attempt at the Pollack etc on the wrecks.

Its only an idea at the moment and all the usual factors will come into play, tides, weather but it could be a good day if enough boats were up for it we could split into say...2 groups and target a couple of wrecks each and then all meet up on the better fishing ones?

Anybody fancy it? Or have some ideas?

I like that idea but need to speak with my insurers first and see if we can increase my coverage beyond 12 miles .... unless you all promise not to sink me till I am within the covered area :-)

Would love the chance of a decent pollack...my PB is about 6lb, and have always wanted a good one!

Happy to crew, as Frisky is coming out on Friday, and will be ashore till the plaice return!

I got a 13.8 Pollock a couple of years ago off the needles. Mmmmmm tasted lovely :-)

My tip would be spread around a few wrecks and try to only fish a couple of boats on each.

Even on the drift too many boats and sounders soon spook the fish.

I believe that It will be a while before the fish arrive here though. So I may have chance to sort the engine out.

We will be up for this too. I've only done wrecks on charters which is totaly different to driving yourself, so need to learn from the experts.

All I had to do was phone my insurer and ask for the change. Had the new paperwork the following morning and no extra charge.

Nige - I hear SAGA do a good deal for the more mature (age not mental state\senior 50+) gentleman!!! laugh.giflaugh.gif

Seriously - they do provide boat insurance!!

I am with Towergate Marden cover for Elbe to Rochelle but had to ask. Had a quote from Porth Cawl similar prices for same type of cover . Saga was not as good cover.

Last time I looked at Porthcawl there were issues for me with underwater gear cover. Not the same with Mardon, so I use Towergate Mardon.

This was the info I found in Oct 2008 (check your small print):

I too am with Towergate Mardon and I have just phoned them. They have set limits which they will not exceed on certain size craft and unfortunately they wont exceed the "Non tidal and coastal" 12 mile limit on mine ..... but they WILL ALLOW THE CHANNEL ISLANDS!!! (which I am sure is more than 12 miles)! So I can travel the 72 miles to Alderney????

So we have to make sure the wrecks are somewhere between here and the Channel Islands biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I have the paperwork being sent to me for the extra.

Graham does that mean that you're not insured for the 30miles in-between?

I.e only insured while 12miles from land?

there is a long ongoing thread on WSF forums about boat insurance.

lots of confusion and conflicting opinions but it looks doubtful to me if any boat under 23ft will get cover for more than 12 miles.

Good point but I doubt it because elsewhere in the policy wording it does say that I can travel in the shortest route to get to my destination even if it takes me beyond the 12 mile limit and I will still be covered.

Better not follow us then, we never seem to take the shortest route to the Islands wink.gif

but there are plenty of wrecks just off the direct route, [within a couple of miles of the line] biggrin.gif

Provisionally Sunday 27th Feburary, neap tide, low water Christchurch about midday and Poole 12.50.So a lunch time anchor-up for a monster conger or two?

Obviously all weather dependent, but nearer the time will see who is still up for it and try to form a plan or two with consultation of the wrecking guru's
