Sinbad Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 (edited) Because it was such a nice evening, I decided to crack on with a job I've been dreading.. dismantling the trailer hubs and inspecting the brakes. last year, after just one year since a garage refit at a well known place in Christchurch... I was left with a disaster to repair. rotted brake shoes and bearings so shot, they had to be heated up to get them off the shaft. Then I fitted a backplate flushing modification (courtesy of Charlie A) and bearing savers to the hubs. I only use the trailer eery 8-10 weeks to haul the boat out for a scrub, and then the trailer sits in the yard after that. Within a few minutes, I had the hub off and this is the result without any cleaning up - bearings all shiny, back plates not bad at all. I would recommend the bearing savers to anyone!!
