Member Removed
Good morning, All. This is my first posting on your website and I am looking forward to contributing (where I can) on the posts. I will be taking my boat out from Poole - weather permitting! - this coming weekend and would appreciate any advice on suitable marks in the area. It's a 5m RIB so fairly seaworthy and I have been looking at local charts (on www.wrecksite.eu) for possible marks. A few seem likely to me (not knowing the area):- 1 Close in to the cliffs at Durlston Head or St. Albans Head for Pollack 2 Flatties (Plaice, Turbot, Flounders ???) drifting over St. Albans Ledge running SW from St. Albans Head 3 Trying some of the wrecks in the area - but which one(s)? 4 Trolling for Bass along the Training Bank just west of the Swash Channel. What is it a training bank for? 5 Small (?) flatties inside Poole Harbour itself - but where? 6 And, of course, mackerel out at sea But these are just guesses on my part. Can anybody assist me with some specific information, please? If you don't want to give away your favourite location then a PM would be fine. I'll have squid and cuttle already as bait but are there local baits one would recommend - rag, crab, lug? Charlie (your Club Sec) has offered some advice and has recommended that I post my questions on here for your specialist knowledge! Many thanks to all. Neal
Hi Arthur, Durlston Head and particularly St Albans Ledge has fierce Tide races - beware! Try anchoring the offshore banks and the spoil grounds for Rays The wrecks nearby often have Divers visiting! The Training Bank helps the flow of water out of the Harbour to slow down erosion. Flatties in the harbour along the edges of the Channels. Hope this helps! Neal
Brian
If you're stuck in the harbour due to the weather, you'll need some ragworm for the flatties. You could try for Bass in the harbour, provided you're outside a line drawn from Salterns through Brownsea Castle to Jerry's point. Inside of that line it's a bass nursery area. Member Removed
Looking at the charts is there any joy in fishing the Poole Rocks, about 2 - 3 miles ENE of Sanbanks? Do they hold any bass or bream? Thanks Arthur
Graham Nash
Personally I rarely have any joy on Poole patch (although there are always lots of boats fishing out there). I have had bream there, but (for me) its mainly doggies!
