boybilly Posted November 23, 2004 Report Posted November 23, 2004 Paul J, I do like that mate. Will copy it down and see you there. BB Quote
Newboy Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 I know the rule of the comp is 2 rods 2 hooks (no more than one hook per rod). Are we allowed to use feathers or paternosters to catch smaller bait fish? Quote
boybilly Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Newboy, From what I understand yes you can , but only two at a time in total. Realistically, what leads are we looking at on Sunday? I dont want to bring a bucket of leads I am not going to use lads. I am talking about the biggest I will need. Also, along the same lines, what tide run are we fishing in? Regards, BB Quote
Newboy Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Looking at the prediction I think it ain't gonna be a big tide. From what I read about the beasties around the spoils ground, we won't be needing any bait fish, just use a 10 lb cod as bait ..... Quote
Adam F Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 All depends on where you fish mate!! The deep water marks off the Spoil grounds can need 1.5lb - 2lb on a big tide and 8oz on the slack, can go lighter for the whiting possible 6oz. If you fish closer in (unlikely unless weather is bad) 12oz will probably be the max, with 8-10oz the norm. The harbour for flatties, then anything from 1/4oz to 4oz. Take a selection - but dont go mad. Ill have 2x1.5lb 2x1lb 4x12oz 4x10oz 4x8oz and probably 1 each of 6,5,4 etc... Hope this helps - I would have though your helpful skipper whould have called you by now to advise you on what you need!!! Quote
boybilly Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 Much obliged Adam, see you at the weekend my friend, BB Quote
Maverick Martin Posted November 25, 2004 Author Report Posted November 25, 2004 Forgot to put on my earlier post ref sharks. Tope are also on the banned list at the scales Martin Quote
Nipper Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 point taken adam but i have been very busy at work this week far as i am aware paul has been talking to billy about what tackle is needed for the weekend. mark b Quote
duncan Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 I'm with you Mark - skippers the last to know what's going on ! Shame about the weather - Saturday looks really excellent - but Sunday's showing promise unless the systems speed up at all, in which case we could be heading back with a stiff Northerly Suspect that Baiter will be somewhat less of a challenge through the day than Kimmeredge was for some crews Quote
Paul J Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 Billy, i'll have extra big weights so just bring a selection up to a 1lb, i'll have loads so don't bring many " Crew boys do all the work" Quote

Adam F Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 3-5NW is what the majority of the sources are giving - UKHO, Online, Coastguard. Should just be fishable. Quote
duncan Posted November 26, 2004 Report Posted November 26, 2004 SW in the morning W midday NNW by the time the hook comes up at 1500h all around 10 - 12 knots but not much around in the approaches and SW3 all day Sat so shouldn't be much of a residual sea (famous last words!) above all from theyr Quote

On a friendly note I will be available to assist with launching and I will bring a long rope to tow trailers out if you want it. This will allow you a quicker get a way to your favorite spot. Good luck and take care out there. I just wish I was out there with you ............. maybe next year Coddy Quote
