Had a good day out today. Launched at Cobbs at about 10:15, a little later than planed, which meant we had red lights when we reached the bridge and had to wait for it to open at 10:30.

Headed out towards Ballard and tried for some mackerel, without success, so motored across to Bmth Pier where we were into mackerel straight away, caught enough for tea and met up with Derek on Sea Sparkle.

After lunch we headed back into the harbour and picked up a mooring close to Sea Sparkle. We sat back, relaxed and tried for a plaice, lots of nibbles but no real bites until low tide then I had a good bite which turned out to be a 1lb 4oz plaice. Not to be left out my crew (Gerry) followed about 20mins later with a 1lb 3oz plaice. Decided to call it a day at 15:15 as Gerry pulled in a 1lb 8oz flounder.

Well done Brian, you had a better day than me weep.gif

Took the day off and joined True Blue at 8AM for a trip out. Sat on the rips 20 odd miles out for about 5 hours or so while a couple of rays, pout, scad, small pollock, small cod, small tope + one decent tope were pulled up. Then we shifted to anchor a wreck and 7 of the 10 on board bagged a small/medium conger within about half an hour before we motored home for 6PM (I had my first conger of about 20LB and my only fish of the day apart from mackerel).

A long day, and unfortunately probably not my most enjoyable.

cool.gif two very small plaice for me,probably less than a pound, on the edge of the wych channel, others around me were getting better fish though. Funnily at slack tide. Is that best for flatties? cool.gif

You must have been quite close to us, didn't see you.

I had always thought that a rising tide was best for plaice, but the last couple of years, Derek and I appear to have more luck at low tide, slack water.
