alfie Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 From time to time I have seen rope advertised on our site but not recently. I am after 175 - 200 mts. Can anyone advise me the best place to purchase rope and have it spliced onto my chain length. Having a windless fitted I am restricted to 12mm thickness...so I have been informed? Thanks in anticipation. Quote
Graham Nash Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 every now and then Martin gets a quantity given to him. Last time it was 10mm and there were 2 HUGE reels of it. I dont think there is any guarantees as to when it might show up but if you can it is worth waiting for as its good stuff. Quote
Rob Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I had a 220 meter coile of this and it is excellent. Still supple after 4 or 5 years, I know some goes quite stiff!!! Go on Jim!!! Rob Quote
Maverick Martin Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I have not had an offer of rope for over a year now and don't expect an offer anytime soon so best buy what you need. I believe some members had bought some off a chap on fleebay but I don't know the addy. I think Paul Dore had another chap he used and found to be ok Martin Quote
niggle Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 There is a Internet one I have used. Cheap Rope Quote
Paul D Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I have been trying to find the one I used. However, I had two lots of rope, the first was superb but the second was no where near as supple as the first. Quote

great white Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Alfie you may be aware, that not only does the rope have to fit the windlass but if it is fitted with a chain gypsy it has to have calibrated chain as well. The rope chain splice is a bit special but not too difficult as long as its a three ply rope. I could help you with that if you wish. Charlie Quote
Rob Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Get it ordered and bring it Thursday so CHarlie can show us all at the meeting!!! Quote
alfie Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks for all the reply's, I will start to contact some of these recommend sites and let you know the outcome. Charlie thanks for the offer of showing me the "splicing" this may be a good topic for one of our meetings. Thanks again for all those replies and see you at the meeting this Thursday. alf Quote
