Wedger Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) Its' been a long drawn out summer for me and at times very frustrating, but I'll not bore you all with the sordid details ..................... some of you know anyway but I just wish to move on now. Everything happens for a reason! I had the pleasure of a first sea trial after the re-power, albeit harbour bound, on Friday. I just got to say I haven't stopped grinning yet. Took her out again today. From Cobbs out and hugging the coast to Hengist. Head and then punched out against a heavy sea at just over displacement speed to the needles and south to keep an eye on you guys. Then back to base at 22 knots with a following sea. All in all a very mixed journey with some WOT some cruise and some heavy displacement during the passage. Covered over 40 miles, used 50 litres of fuel. Found a trim tab stuck fully down so had drag all the way. Harbour speed trial still interesting though. 0-29.8 knots in 12 seconds - 1nm in 1 min 50 seconds Awesome When I fix the trim tab, prop up a pitch and fit the right ratio I'll report back Happy for now though take a look at the launch/step-up video - link below Edited November 21, 2011 by Wedger Quote

diverdave Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Just out of curiosity, was it the Starboard trim tab that was stuck down ? Quote

Wedger Posted November 20, 2011 Author Report Posted November 20, 2011 At last Trevor you have your just reward, I am really pleased for you as I know only to well what you were going through. All is well that ends well Martin Martin, Thank you so much! There are a few of us who have been there and some still toiling away. Often you don't realize just how deep in the mire you are. Here's to all those who visit this dark place. Good luck!! Be patient!! Quote
diverdave Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Dave Yes, curiously! How did you know? Trev Watch the wake on the high speed run :-) Fix the trim tab before you change anything else ! and try it again. I'm surprised you didn't feel it through the steering ? Quote
Wedger Posted November 20, 2011 Author Report Posted November 20, 2011 All very new Dave, inc. power steering - but did notice it behaving poorly. It will make quite a difference when fixed but how much yet to be proven. Cheers Quote
niggle Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Hooray really pleased for you Trev, now you've got a problem though.........she's going to be soooo much fun to drive you're not going to want to stop and fish, Quote
Graham Nash Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 we saw some nutter flying through the waves and my mate said to me "someone's playing with a new toy" ..... it would seem he was right . It looked great Trev. Quote

great white Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Great to see that you are back Trev The fish can stand by now. Or will have too when you get fed up with the playing Hell of a day for a sea full power trial Charlie Quote
Coddy Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Good to hear the news Trev I think I saw you going past the RNLI as I was slipping my boat in. Seems like Otter is going well, well done in getting her sorted out in the end Dave Quote
Wedger Posted November 21, 2011 Author Report Posted November 21, 2011 (edited) The fish can stand by now. Or will have too when you get fed up with the playing Hell of a day for a sea full power trial Did briefly manage 75% power on a pass by with JoJo for a photo opportunity. With a 150 metre start too but David Bailey got his shutter jammed or something and we were gone in a cloud of spray before he got his finger out. Still better delayed shutter opening than premature thingy whatsit - hey...... Sorry Rob, Thanks for the call and the photo - quite dramatic Only managed full power in the harbour for the launch/step-up test, but all round learnt lots about the power and handling in very varied conditions.. One thing is very clear though and that is there is so much more in reserve . She is under propped even with A9's so the only other option beyond A10's would be stepping up a gear. I'm really in no hurry to change anything at all as the current setup is soooo gentle on the engine and does everything I need. Can't see that I will NEED any more than 30 knots even if it all sounds great fun. I'd rather stick to 'phenomenal acceleration' , easy engine running and frugal fuel consumption . I still have the trim tabs to sort as one is stuck down and dragging - the other is set down to compensate. I recon I will gain a bit more top end when this is rectified. If I still want more the a cheap solution is a simple re-pitch up to A10. these 2 moves give her an easy 35 knots. do I need it??? Very reluctant to gear up as this involves an exchange lower unit @ Edited November 21, 2011 by Wedger Quote
niggle Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 I know what you want for Xmas now Trev Quote
Sinbad Posted November 21, 2011 Report Posted November 21, 2011 Great news Trevor... I do love the Harbour this time of year with no speed limits..... Lovely flat conditions, and full power... but ask yourself how often do I get that out at sea? And the extra torque and power comes in handy when you have a boat full of anglers and gear and a few boxes of fish!! Good luck Matey. Paul Quote
