Took Maverick out of Poole on Saturday with Dave (animal) and Alan (Domino) as crew.

Weather not to bad blowing a good 4 but the sea's behaving themselves.

Went out to a mark outside of the slates where on the last of the flood had Conger to 20lb (Dave), cuckoo wrasse, pout, dragonet (I think) poor cod and dogs then the tide stopped and so did the fish. Waited for the ebb it eventually started (very weak) and......nothing. Moved into the gully, very slow with dogs, pout and a small spotted ray.

I think the tides this weekend were to small, no movement and no fish! Didn

Splash-Out with Paul J and BW with Rich JAW headed out for a Cod session on Sunday before the crack of dawn. The 1st 2 boats in the CP, we were launched and heading out at 6.30am!!

The channel bouys have now been moved from the harbour BTW - fine on the way out, but coming in we had to take care - the plotter really showed its worth!

It was like a mill pool in Xchurch bay, so we skipped over to the Island in less than 20 mins! Anchored in the productive mark on Weds, we sat back to await the action! Dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs...oh....and more dogs!!

After 2 hours we decided that we should give the gully a go, so we nipped over there. No tide at all, and when it did start to run it was a miserable piddle of a flow! As Martin said - no more than 6-8oz all day even off the needles! Dogs a plenty again - I really cannot remember catching so many dogs, I rekon over 40 to my rods during the day! We had a brief spell of whiting with Rich taking the best at 1lb 15oz...(sorry rich, even bouncing the scales didnt add another ounce!)

At 2.30 we called it a day and headed home. Back on the slip we met with a few regulars who all recalled a similar day.

Oh well, always next time! biggrin.gif

Daniel and I ventured out yesterday.

We had been warned that the small tide had been slack for a long time on sat so we went to the gulley

A bit of tide when we arrived had us getting loads of bites but nothing but suicidal dogfish. eventually even the poor cod and wrasse maned to get hooked up just to show us what was rattling the rod tips.

After waiting for over an hour for the flood to start decided to move and anchor the deepest part of the gulley. then just as Overdrfaft passed us on the way in had a screeming run on squid.

A heavy fish at last, but after a steady fight [and praying for the first cod on the boat this winter] the culprit shot off just under the surface, No cod but a nice fit 9lb 8oz smoothy.

This was followed immediatly by my other rod nodding to a 8lb 4oz Thornback Ray.

The first Thornback I have caught in ages. and the start of another visit from the local kennel Club. we had dozens of the little buggers.

Only 1 whiting onboard a plump 1lb 12oz fish to Daniel.

Nice weather and lots of boats about but not much tide flow and warm water must be keeping the Cod away.

Travor told me he had been out three days running and had not had one.

On Splash-Out we had a 6lb starry smoothy off the needles and tons of LSD.

Moved back to the X-gulley and got more LSD and a couple of whiting, biggest 1lb.

Not a red-letter day, but nice to get back into the boat again after the Kimmeridge event. We had a bit of de-ja-vue(?) when we came back into the Run at Mudeford, though. Following BW back in there was a strong wave pushing us from behind. That brought back unwelcome feelings. unsure.gifunsure.gif

Slaved through Saturday and returning from Sainsbury's with flowers got 'what do you want?' - er, um , I was wondering, weather (looks good), if, .......oh you want to go fishing tommorrow do you? Yes please! - Calls secured boat launch at 1000h and company/bair sorted.

Up early and a quick (!!!) run to Poole had the anodes replaced on the drive and a quick lube job before launch and away.

Gully with Great White resulted in dogs, pout and bream!

Move to the banks a bit inside found - more dogs.

Tried 10 squid on a 14/0 circle - avoided dogs rolleyes.gif but nothing else showed sad.gif !

Have to assume that the clarity of the water compared to last week was the reason the conger didn't party.

Fished out of Emsworth on my friend's boat ( 23 foot Orkney Day Angler ) on Sunday on a "hot mark" near the Nab Tower.

The water was glassy flat and we started off with the usual dogfish ( I must have had around 10 of them to start ).

One small Eyed Ray and a couple of whiting, then the tide slackened for what seemed like an age.

As the flood started we were back in the action !! - with more small Eyed Rays and dogfish + one Thornback.

No cod showing and only the two whiting.

Steamed back to Emsworth around 4PM.

A nice day to go fishing, but shame the fish didn't think so ( reports heard on the radio indicated this was the pattern

for everyone over by the Nab )

Paul - Ill probably stick to Poole or Xchurch. I want to go after the Cod and I know the waters better this way.

I meant to get you to do a safety check on BW on Sun - she is all kitted and waiting now.

Do you fancy crewing on Sat/Sun and doing the check at the same time?

weep.gif As the boat lift and scrub went pear shape, and the wind actually stayed away we thought it would be rude to stay at home all weekend!!! so off we steam full of hope and expectation even if it was naff tides, but that soon went by the way when all we landed was pout after pout, then dog, dog, bl,,dy dog, thought we had arrived at the kennels!!! had one small conger, but no whiting, the water seems so warm and clear at the moment. Still it was good to hear and see so many club boats out. hope it improves for the open.
